Sigma 135mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art Overview

A fast telephoto prime, the Nikon F-mount 135mm f/1.8 DG HSM from Sigma pairs bright and sophisticated optics with intuitive handling and design. As part of the Art line of lenses, this 135mm f/1.8 is designed for high-resolution rendering, and utilizes FLD and SLD glass to control chromatic aberrations and color fringing for notable clarity. A Super Multi-Layer Coating also enhances image quality by suppressing lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity in strong lighting conditions. Additionally, making it an ideal lens for portraiture, the bright f/1.8 maximum aperture pairs with a rounded nine-blade diaphragm to benefit selective focus and shallow depth of field imaging with smooth bokeh.

Complementing the imaging capabilities, the lens sports a Hyper Sonic Motor to produce quick, smooth, and quiet autofocus performance with full-time manual focus override. The physical design utilizes Thermally Stable Composite material for durability in a wide range of environments, and a brass bayonet mount also offers rigidity and mounting precision.

As part of the Art line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens is designed to achieve truly notable optical performance and is ideally suited for creative and artistic applications.
Prime telephoto lens is designed for FX-format Nikon F-mount DSLRs, however it can also be used on DX models where it will provide a 202.5mm equivalent focal length.
Bright f/1.8 maximum aperture is well-suited for working in low-light conditions and also provides greater control over the focus position when using shallow depth of field techniques.
Two F Low Dispersion (FLD) and two Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements are featured in the optical design, and help to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity and color accuracy.
A Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions.
Nine-blade rounded diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.
The integrated HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) realizes quick and quiet autofocusing, which is further complemented by an optimized AF algorithm to produce smoother focusing performance. The HSM also permits full-time manual focus control simply by rotating the focus ring at any time.
Specialized electromagnetic aperture mechanism provides greater exposure control stability that is especially beneficial when working with fast continuous shooting rates.
The lens is constructed using a Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material, along with traditional metals, for greater precision and use in wide temperature variations.
The bayonet mount is constructed from brass for ensured accuracy and durability. Additionally, rubber sealing is incorporated in the mount design to render it dust- and splash-resistant.
This lens is compatible with the optional Sigma USB Dock for fine-tuning different lens characteristics and updating its firmware.

It's fast. It's sharp. It's a beast. Not for those who have trouble holding hefty lenses. Prompt, fantastic delivery by B&H

I love this lens - I used it for an indoor wedding (cathedral) low light and strict boundaries. I should have pushed my speed but I still got an array of beautiful images. This is my longest Prime, I am still having to visualize my distance. However the quality of images is impecable.

this lens is very fast and sharp at all apertures,if it breaks, I'll get another again. On my setup, I had to add +14 to my adjustments on my focusing checkup using the Sigma lens menu adjustment tool.

Review for Sigma 135mm f1.8 Art Lens

I bought this lens for my Nikon D850 for portrait use, and it does not disappoint. The colors are spot on. The bokeh is unbelievable. The look of the photos is stellar. You have to stand quite a distance from your subject but I don't mind doing that. I think this lens is going to be very useful for wedding photography in addition to portrait work, and some street photography. I really love it. This will be my new go-to lens for quite awhile I think. Pros: Creamy Bokeh, accurate color, easy focus even at 1.8 (sharp focus), incredible images, no chromatic aberration. Cons: It is heavy

Finally !

After waiting several years for the new Nikon 135mm, I decided to try the Sigma 135mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art. OMG, this is it, the Nikon AF-S 200mm f/2 has now a little brother ! The Sigma is built like a pro lens, heavy and solid ! AF is ultra fast, quiet, and very accurate (tested on Nikon D800) I love the close focusing capability, less than 3 feet ! Sharpness is incredible, even at f/1.8 and not just at the center, sharp all over the frame ! (check the clock picture, D800 ISO 800 f/1.8 1/60s, no flash). Bokeh is just like the Nikon 200mm f/2, amazing ! Fall-off and chromatic aberrations are very well under control, unnoticeable. The filter size is 82mm, it will take a B+W XS-Pro clear MRC-Nano filter 007 without any issue for mounting the lock-in hood. I have more than 15 Nikon Nikkor lenses and only 1 Sigma lens but trust me, that lens have its place in my camera bag !
