Trijicon Electro-Optics MK3 Overview

  • 1Description

The Trijicon IR-HUNTER MK3 2.5x35mm f/1.2 Thermal Riflescope is designed as a highly versatile and customizable optic that can be used as a stand-alone dedicated night vision weapon sight or stacked with conventional daytime scopes and sights.

At the core of this device is a 640 x 480 resolution uncooled VOx microbolometer and a 35mm, f/1.2 lens system. Its native 2.5x optical power is ideal when using it as a clip-on thermal sight with a conventional scope or by itself for close- to mid-range engagements, and with up to 8x digital zoom you are able to increase magnification to as much as 20x for more long-range use. Traditional windage and elevation turrets make transitioning from daytime scopes intuitive and easy, and the simulated first focal plane placement ensures your reticle's subtensions remain accurate through the entire zoom range. Depending on the mode and how you want to use the IR-HUNTER, you can choose from five different digital reticles and select white-hot or black-hot polarity, with the option to take still images and save them to the onboard memory or stream video to a monitor or other device via an RS-170 output port.

Protecting optics and electronics is a housing made of lightweight and durable 6061 T6 aluminum alloy with a DLC hard-coat finish. It is also sealed to be waterproof and submersible to stand up to rain and snow, or an accidental drop in a stream or puddle. An integrated dual throw lever LaRue quick release Picatinny rail mount makes removal and repeated remounting easy and convenient without sacrificing strength or stability. A flip-up front lens cover is included to protect your sight, as is a hard case to safely store and transport your sight when it's not mounted on your long gun.

Performance
  • Low 2.5x optical magnification is ideal for close- to mid-range use as a dedicated thermal sight, or for use as a clip-on thermal night sight with other daytime optics
  • 35mm f/1.1 lens system
  • Uncooled VOx (Vanadium Oxide) sensor
  • 640 x 480 resolution with 12µm pixel size
  • <50mK thermal sensitivity and 8-12µm spectral response
  • 60 Hz refresh rate, 30 Hz in power save mode
  • 640 x 480 digital OLED display with adjustable brightness & contrast
  • Selectable white-hot/black-hot display polarity with three intensity levels for each option, plus Edge Detect mode
  • Edge Detect Tactical Mode draws an outline of principle objects in the view at a fraction of the brightness of other modes so the user's eyes are not as prone to night blindness from the screen
  • Up to 8x digital zoom provides a maximum magnification of 20x when combined with the 2.5x optical magnification
  • 40.5' field of view at 1000 yards, 12° horizontal angle of view
  • Exceptional 27mm eye relief provides a generous eye box for greater flexibility on rail mounting location
Use & Handling
  • Digital Focus Control (DFC) allows the user to focus and sharpen the picture to reveal critical details
  • Enhanced Target Recognition (ETR) image enhancement system ensures the image isn't washed out against the sky or horizon—improving brightness, contrast, and clarity
  • Traditional windage & elevation turrets provide easy transition from daytime optics, with on-screen position display
  • Multiple digital reticle choices, from basic designs to more complex ranging options, allows the user to select the one that fits the mission or their personal preference the best
  • Simulated 'first focal plane' reticle placement maintains subtension accuracy at all digital zoom magnifications to ensure precise shot placement and range estimation accuracy
  • Stadiametric rangefinder option lets the user estimate the distance to their target quickly and easily
  • Four user defined reticle/zero for use on different weapons or with different ammo loads
  • Designed to easily support conventional daytime optics as a clip-on thermal sight with alignment software
  • Analog RS-170 video output with included cable, capture still images or video
  • -6 to +2 dioptric correction helps to bring the display into clear focus
  • Fast five-second start-up time
Reticle Options
Modified German Reticle:
  • Offers a basic design with an uncluttered field of view
  • Two horizontal posts and one lower vertical post
  • Posts are solid on the outside and hollow near the center so they will not obstruct view
  • Center aiming cross
Crosshair:
  • Long thin crosshairs are easy to see without cluttering the view
  • Evenly spaced dots can be used for hold over/under and windage adjustments
  • Use the dots to estimate range to and size of target
Thermal Subtension (TSR):
  • For shooting at extended distances
  • Provides some basic ranging data
  • The width for each of the elevation marks is based at 36" wide for the distance readout in yards to the right of the mark
Thermal Combat (TCR):
  • Simple crosshair in the center
  • The width of the crosshair is 36 MOA (36") at 100 yards
  • Half of the crosshair is 18 MOA, which is approximately the width of a man at 100 yards
Thermal Dot (TDR):
  • Simple duplex crosshair design similar to the MiL Dot
  • Each dot is calibrated at 100:1, so the distance between the dots is 100 yards
  • Specifically designed for shorter engagement ranges than traditional daytime sights so the calibration between the dots is smaller to improve accuracy
Construction Details
  • Strong and lightweight 6061 T6 aluminum alloy housing
  • DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coatings protect the housing from scratches, wear, and corrosion with much longer life than traditional anodized or Cerakote finishes
  • Waterproof and submersible to 3.3'
  • Flip-up/stay-on front lens cap
  • Fully replaceable and high transmission IR window ensures peak performance if the window gets scratched, scuffed, or damaged in the field
  • Integrated LaRue dual throw-lever quick release Picatinny rail mount
  • Broad -40 to 131°F operating temperature
  • Includes waterproof hard carrying case
  • Length: 7.4"
