VariZoom QuickJib Overview

The VZQJ2K-CPJ QuickJib Camera Crane & CinemaPro Jr K4 System from VariZoom includes the QuickJib camera crane kit and CinemaPro Jr K4 remote head for cameras weighing up to 35 lb.

Portable and compact, the QuickJib attaches to the custom TCR100 crane tripod, which fits perfectly into the heavy-duty DC100 adjustable dolly. This professional, no-tools jib arm system assembles safely and quickly, extending up to 5' without extension and up to 9.5' with extension (included). It features a secure captive clamp system for extending the jib, along with lanyard-attached stainless-steel aircraft pins for quick assembly.

The CinemaPro Jr K4 remote head comes with a Jibstick Pro controller, which is a professional long-throw joystick mounted in a palm rest housing. The controller offers custom pan/tilt motion limits, integral lens control via a plug-in pistol-grip zoom/focus remote, speed and smoothing control, motor disable, and pan/tilt/zoom/focus direction switches. It also features a USB interface for advanced setup and firmware updates.

VariZoom QuickJib Extension Kit with TCR100 Tripod & DCR100 Dolly

VariZoom's QuickJib Extension Kit with TCR100 Tripod & DCR100 Dolly is an affordable, high-performance jib kit for cameras weighing up to 30 lbs (13.6kg). This professional, no-tools jib arm system assembles safely and quickly, extending to nearly 14 feet (4.26m). Portable and compact, the QuickJib attaches to the custom TCR100 crane tripod, which fits perfectly into the heavy-duty DC100 adjustable dolly. You're ready to roam! The perfect combo of quality and economy, this QuickJib system will provide years of reliable operation, whether indoors, outside, or in the studio.

Jib Arm
The QuickJib selectively uses industrial powder coating and anodizing for optimal component performance, with stainless steel fasteners throughout (as opposed to lesser, cheaper zinc-plated fasteners). The slim QuickJib outperforms the competition by having 50% less air resistance in breezy conditions than jibs utilizing a four-arm support system.
Brake System
Brake system utilizes a heavy-duty plate that is securely mounted to the pivot section. Brake compression system is built into a stator and designed to compress firmly and securely, while remaining forgiving enough to slide under extreme force that might otherwise topple a locking-brake jib system.
Locking Pins
Locking stainless aircraft pins of the highest quality and strength are used at the pivot points, and they are attached by lanyard to prevent them from ever being lost.
Tilting Mechanisms
Camera platform and tilt base join to the jib arm with stainless aircraft pins that insert through sealed radial ball bearings at the tilt base and high-performance sleeve bearings at the camera platform, resulting in silent, smooth motion. The camera platform also has a built-in spirit level for quick reference and adjustment. Paired with an optional Zero Gravity head, you have a professional manual overhead jib.
Telescoping Counterweight Section
Telescoping weight arm adjusts up to 3 feet for tremendous flexibility. Extend the arm to reduce the amount of weight needed, shorten it to work in tighter spaces, or simply adjust it to fine-tune the counterbalance.
TCR100 Crane Tripod
This custom-built crane tripod is the only tripod VariZoom recommends for use with any crane, no matter the brand. We recommend you never use a telescoping or collapsible tripod under a crane, no matter how small. When supporting an expensive camera on a jib elevated above other valuable equipment or people, it's simply common sense to eliminate all risk and use a single-section tripod instead of a telescoping one.

The TCR100 was designed with safety and strength in mind, combining a solid machined base-plate (not molded), specialty heavy-gauge tubing, and oversize leveling feet for an ultra-stable design that will never falter or fail. With anodized aluminum, stainless steel fasteners and solid brass bushings, the TCR100 will last a lifetime.

DCR100 Dolly
VariZoom's heavy-duty dolly has an ample spread and a positive leg-locking system that securely captures the TCR100 crane tripod.

VariZoom Cinema Pro Jr (Jibstick-only, Power Supply, Hard Travel Case)

The VariZoom Cinema Pro Jr (Jibstick-only, Power Supply, Hard Travel Case) is a digital motion control system that includes the Jib Stick controller, power supply unit, and a hard travel case.

You are offered a scaled down version of the Cinema Pro digital motion control system with 30% reduced programming, speed, and load capability. You can use the motion control system for cameras weighing up to 35 lb and achieve maximum pan/tilt speeds of 110-120°/sec. The system also integrates a precision enclosed drivetrain for enhanced performance.

The Cinema Pro Jr also includes the Jib Stick controller that provides smoothing and speed control along with manual pan, tilt, and zoom capabilities. The Cinema Pro Jr supports multiple control input options.

You can move and record to marked positions, and achieve programmable maximum speeds and smoothing for each motor. Operator commands are precisely conveyed from the controller across a distance of up to 2500’ to the head. You can also program the motion limits and achieve servo tuning of the motors via the remote console.

Serial and Analog lens control coupled with zoom compensation for high-quality and smooth shots at telephoto is available for Fujinon, Canon, and Preston lenses. You can leverage the high rigidity of the digital motion control system to achieve accurate and smooth motion of long lenses.

It is ideal for portable crane or jib-based operations, and weighs 13 lb and measures 21 x 6 x 11.4”.

Note:
  • The kit does not allow for full motion control; it allows for manual pan/tilt/zoom only
  • Jibstick has smoothing and speed control only

How much ground (floor space) and operational space around the Jib does this need?
Asked by: Nathan
According to Varizoom the center of the included dolly to the dolly leg is 22 inches. The jib itself will go up 10 feet, you would want to have at least that much clearance around it. To be safe you may even want to be in the 15-20 foot range.

question

Would this kit handle a small camera (Sony PXW-X200) and teleprompter assuming the combined weight is below stated limit. Will it be able to balance with the prompter on? Thanks!
Asked by: David
We must admit not hearing about using a teleprompter on a crane before. But that is not to say it cannot work. In certain situations it may be the perfect or only solution. That being said, we have the opinion that since the Sony PXW-X200 weighs 10 lbs and the payload of the VariZoom QuickJib Kit is 50 lbs, as long as the teleprompter is less than 40 lbs, you will be good. There may be an outside chance the baseplate cannot go back far enough to balance. In that case, a longer base plate would solve the problem.
