I find this Kaiser light pad reliable, and the quality of light is great. It is recommended by several influencers on social media who does film photography. When I turned it on, the light came on smoothly. the color and intensity of the light is very consistant corner to corner. The surface is very smoothe and feels sturdy when I hold it. Would recommend to anyone scanning film with digital camera or cellphone. It has given me great quality scans so far.

    Simple and effective light source

I used to use light boxes with incandescent or fluorescent light sources. They were bulky and inexact in light quality. This German light box is trim and very even in color quality. It is pretty basic, but that is all I need. I have mostly used it with black and white film so far but have not had to correct for color casts when I bring digital images into Lightroom.

This light produces the even light I was needing to photograph film negatives. Light weight and thin it is easy to store. The battery option is perfect. I can move the light to where it is needed.

I use this with my mirrorless camera and the Essential Film Holder. I scan tons of 35mm film and this light works perfectly.

What is the AC power specification? Can it operate on European 220-240 VAC supply?
    Asked by: Gautam
The power supply is universal and can work on 220-240. The plug is USA so you need this type of adapter: Watson Adapter Plug - 2-Prong USA to 2-Prong Europe B&H # WAAPUSAE.

The light is quite even across the whole surface and shouldn't result in unusable variations in lighting.

what's the maximum brightness in lumens? and how slow of a shutter do you have to go down to in order to expose properly if your aperture is at f8 and iso at 100
    Asked by: Val
At F8 and 100 ISO to expose for the light you would have to be at 1/4 second , when you put a slide in front depending on the slide you would be at 1/2 to 1 second exposure

How long will the light stay illuminated at max brightness on battery power?
    Asked by: Danny
I have always used the light box with the AC adapter/charger (included) plugged in. However the instructions suggest that “depending on the charge of the battery, charging may last up to six hours “. I had not used it for about two months and without being used, the charge held. The adapter comes with a USB cable to micro plug cable which can be used with a 5V output source like a computer, notebook or a power bank.

Would I be able digitize my slides using an iPhone or would a dslr be needed ?
    Asked by: Albert
Good results really require a DSLR and a good macro lens. There are two basic reasons: 1) The need for close, precise focus and 2) an ability to reduce the contrast. To preserve shadow detail in most 35mm slides the camera needs a low contrast mode. Nikon has a neutral picture control setting (The D850 an even lower flat setting) that approximate the results obtained with a slide scanner. Having said that, this light box is a great uniform light source for both slides and color negatives.
