ASUS Maximus IX Extreme Z270 overview

  • 1Description

The Republic of Gamers Maximus IX Extreme Z270 LGA 1151 E-ATX Motherboard from ASUS fits in full-tower cases and lets you build a gaming computer system running on a 7th- or 6th-gen Intel processor and multiple graphics cards. This motherboard comes outfitted with an LGA 1151 socket along with an Intel Z270 chipset, providing you with the ability to overclock an unlocked processor. To support the enhanced performance, the Maximus IX Extreme comes with a monoblock that directly connects to your liquid-cooling solution and mounts on top of the processor, VRM, and M.2 drives to dissipate heat effectively. Other notable features include onboard RGB LEDs, 802.11ac Wi-Fi with MU-MIMO, and Bluetooth 4.1 as well as two M.2 slots and one Thunderbolt 3 port to enable the system quick access to data. The motherboard also comes with eight SATA III connections for optical drives, hard drives, and SSDs.

ASUS has equipped this motherboard with four DDR4 memory slots that can accommodate up to 64GB of memory modules and handle frequencies of up to 4133 MHz. Three PCIe 3.0 x16 slots are available so you can link graphics cards in either NVIDIA 2-Way SLI or AMD 3-Way CrossFireX technology to render 3D textures quickly. For non-gaming builds, the motherboard supports integrated Intel graphics coming from the processor to deliver detailed visuals through its HDMI and DisplayPort outputs. To complete the multimedia experience, it comes armed with six audio jacks that connect to user-supplied speakers or headsets. Other ports offered are six USB 3.0 ports as well as one PS/2 combo port, one Gigabit Ethernet port, and one USB 3.1 port with 10 Gb/s speeds. There's also a PCIe 3.0 x4 slot to grant your system with extra capabilities.

Intel Z270 Chipset
The Intel Z270 chipset supports 7th-generation and 6th-generation Intel LGA 1151 Core i7/Core i5/Core i3/Pentium/Celeron processors. It provides improved performance by utilizing serial point-to-point links, allowing increased bandwidth and stability. Additionally, the Z270 chipset provides a maximum of 10 USB 3.0 and four SATA 6 Gb/s ports as well as 32 Gb/s M.2 PCIe 3.0 technology and integrated graphics support.
LGA 1151 Socket
The ROG Maximus IX Extreme motherboard supports 7th-generation and 6th-generation Intel Core i7/Core i5/Core i3/Pentium/Celeron processors in the LGA 1151 package. Integrated graphics, memory and PCI Express controllers provide onboard graphics output with dedicated chipsets, two-channel (4-DIMM) DDR4 memory, and 16 PCIe Express 3.0/2.0 lanes.
Liquid-Compatible Monoblock
The ROG Maximus IX Extreme motherboard comes with a monoblock that connects to your liquid-cooling solution to cool the processor, VRM, and M.2 storage drives. The monoblock sports integrated sensors for monitoring the flow rate, water-pump status, coolant leak, and temperature. Aside from the monoblock, the motherboard comes with fan headers for controlling the radiator's fans.
Aura Lighting
Aura Sync lighting-control software is provided for controlling optional RGB strips as well as onboard LEDs on the motherboard. Aura provides RGB color selection and nine lighting effects. Additionally, this software program is compatible with LED lights on your keyboard, mouse, and other devices.
Gaming Audio
With SupremeFX audio technology, the motherboard delivers 113 dB signal-to-noise ratio on the line-in connection and 120 dB on line-out. This technology provides a SupremeFX S1220 chipset, an ESS Sabre Hi-Fi ES9023P digital-to-analog converter, and a Texas Instruments RC4580 op-amp.
OC Design
A dedicated base-clock generator, which is designed for 7th-generation Intel processors, allows overclocked base frequencies of up to or beyond 425 MHz. This solution works in tandem with the ASUS TurboV Processing Unit (TPU) to enhance voltage and base-clock control. For memory performance, an ASUS T-Topology circuit design and OC socket help minimize coupling noise and signal reflection to support frequencies of up to 4133 MHz for compatible DDR4 memory modules.
5-Way Optimization
5-Way Optimization sorts out complex system management settings with a click to provide instant and controllable performance boosts. This technology optimizes essential aspects of your system based on real-time use, so you can experience fast CPU performance, everyday energy savings, stable digital power, cool and quiet fans, and enhanced networking that is tailored for the apps you are using.
Thunderbolt 3
The Thunderbolt 3 port features a reversible USB Type-C design and transfers data at a rate of up to 40 Gb/s.
Storage Performance
The Maximus IX Extreme has two PCIe 3.0 x4 M.2 slots that can support NVMe SSDs for fast storage performance. You can create a RAID configuration with up to three PCIe 3.0 storage devices, utilizing two M.2 slots and one PCIe x16 slot, to improve the drive's native read and write speeds.
Wireless
The external dual-band 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi antenna comes equipped with MU-MIMO technology to offer wireless transfer speeds of up to 867 Mb/s.
