Tilta ES-T27-A Overview

The Tilta Cage and Baseplate with Control Handle leaves pretty much no stone unturned in providing an optimal user experience for with the Sony a6000, a6300, a6400, and a6500.

The Brazilian rosewood control handle attaches to the side of the cage and provides convenient start/stop trigger functionality. A ventilation fan on the bottom of the cage reduces the risk of overheating and allows for longer shooting times. A coaxial port is provided (right below where the camera's LCD would sit) for powering the fan off a 12V power source, such as an optional battery's D-Tap output using a coax to D-Tap converter cable, or the Tilta V-Mount Plate Power Supply (model # BT-003-A), both sold separately.

At the top right of the cage is a cold shoe mount for attaching a mic or various other accessories, and two buttons (C1 and C2) that allow you to easily change camera settings. Access to the camera's battery door is provided on the bottom, as is access to all buttons and ports. The cage also has HDMI cable locks on the top and side, and an included HDMI to micro-HDMI cable that secures into these locks to provide a safe way of connecting a monitor to the camera. The full-sized HDMI connector installs into the top cable lock and allows you to plug in your monitor, and the micro-HDMI connector runs around the side of the cage, inserting into the other lock and connecting to the camera. The locks are removable, as are many other components, although the cage is mainly CNC machined from a single piece of aluminum.

The baseplate attaches to the bottom of the cage via an efficient quick release mechanism and supports 15mm LWS rods (a pair of threaded 11.8" rods are included). The baseplate also features an integrated lens adapter support compatible with EF to E-Mount and PL to E-Mount Metabones adapters (other ones, including the Metabones Speed Boosters, have slightly different shapes that may not fit). The lens support screws into a threaded hole available on the bottom of these adapters, supporting the weight of the adapter/lens combination. The baseplate also offers three 1/4"-20 tripod mount threaded holes on the bottom and features a dovetail design compatible with dovetail plates such as the TT-C16 plate from Tilta.

The top handle also attaches on top via a dovetail mechanism and offers a cold shoe, 15mm rod pass-though, and mounting threads. The entire rig provides a starting point for a complete shoulder rig. Simply attach optional handgrips to the rods in front, and a shoulder pad to the rods at the rear.

Tilta ES-T27-A Reviews

Awesome package but be aware if using with a6400

I love the quality, functionality, and the look, but even though it is advertised here as a cage for a6400 as well, it is not! Few things to be aware of: the two function buttons C1 and C2 on the top of the main cage are useless with 6400 because the cage was made originally for 6500. Camera's body fits fine, but opening and tilting display becomes a problem since the bottom of the body sits tightly against the cage. With some tweaks, it is possible to come up with a solution to be able to pull out the display if needed, but since with this cage most people use external displays, it's not a big issue. The biggest issue is that HDMI and Shutter cable lock that comes with this cage doesn't fit 6400 because the ports on 6400 are not aligned with the lock's design. It was really frustrating - having a lock that came with the cage but unable to use it. I was planning to return the cage but then decided that there might be a solution. I have ordered a third party cable lock that should fit. I must say - the wooden handle is awesome and the shutter off/on button on it is great.

Great cage, not fully compatible with the a6400

So far this cage has been pretty good. I bought this to use with my a6400 and really went with this option as opposed to a smallrig or other brand because of how secure the hdmi clamp is. However, the clamp won't align with the ports on the a6400 as the positioning is different when compared to the previous models. Soooo, i just put my a6300 in the cage and used the smallrig for the a6400. This cage makes your cam look like a beast....just saying.

Unfortunately no. This cage will not fit the Sony A6600. The following 3 Tilta units will work. See the link below. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/products/Digital-SLR-Video-Stabilizers/ci/3926?filters=fct_brand_name%3Atilta%2Cfct_camera-compatibility_5878%3Asony-a6600

I have the Smallrig A6 series cage, but I can never tighten enough that the Nucleus-nano motor would make it loosen the camera over time. Would this Tilta case securely hold the camera without getting loose?
Asked by: Kaku
This is a high quality and well made cage that provides a secure connection for the a6000, a6300, a6400 and a6500 cameras. The camera should stay secure in this cage.

is there a mount at the bottom of the cage or baseplate? I would like to mount it on my steadicam
Asked by: Marquise
There is a threaded mount at the bottom of the cage and also the base plate. For steadicam mounting, we recommend using the Tilta TT-C16 plate. question

How do I attach it to my tripod?
Asked by: Ian T.
Hello,There are three 1/4-20 mounting holes in the bottom of the base that can be used for mounting to a tripod. Alternately, you could mount a 15mm dovetail plate to your tripod, and slide the cage onto that. I recommend the TT-C16 or TT-C16-A7 for the dovetail plate, as this cage requires that the plate have raised edges to accommodate the tripod-mounting section of the base.

question

Will the camera fit with a metabones speedbooster on it?
Asked by: omar A.
Hello,At present, this cage is not compatible with a Speed Booster. However, Tilta is working on adapting cages for these adapters. The first batch will be the ES-T37 cages for the GH5, and we hope to see the ES-T27 and ES-T37 in the future, though that process is entirely up to Tilta, including the order of products they adapt. We will continue passing on this information on our customers' behalf.
