Key Features
  • For Night Scenes and Astrophotography
  • Blocks Yellow Light Pollution at Night
  • Blocks Sodium-Vapor, Mercury-Vapor Light
  • Blocks Light from Low CRI LED's
The 100 x 100mm Natural Night Light Pollution Filter from NiSi is an essential tool for night scenes and astrophotography. Light pollution occurs in areas of the night sky that are above or near concentrated and intense sources of artificial light such as cities. This filter corrects color distortion caused by undesirable wavelengths of light that pollute the night sky caused by mercury vapor, sodium, low CRI streetlights, and more. The glow from these sources can keep a camera from rendering the sky properly and impact your astrophotography and night images. Natural Night Filters block the most common wavelengths of light pollution by blocking the yellow light frequencies to render neutral, natural tones.

This 100 x 100mm filter is compatible with the NiSi 100mm filter system and other filter holders that accept filters measuring 100mm wide and 2mm thick.

  • Reduces the appearance of night sky light pollution in images with illumination from artificial light sources
  • Blocks yellow light from sodium-vapor lamps, mercury-vapor lamps, or low Color Rendering Index LEDs
  • Enhances the visibility of astronomical objects with less glare and improved contrast
  • Approximately 1-stop light reduction

For use with astrophotography and golden and blue hour photos works great the difference is really superb. It brings out detail that is not very visible without using one.

Just wow. Loved the NiSi filter! Was shooting in Charleston where there were SO MANY city lights of various colors and temperatures, a wonderful bridge that had LED lights... the NiSi filter helped to sort it all out and clean it up to create this beautiful shot!! Definitely will be keeping it in my bag!

Dont use with Lucroit holder.

1) This filter does the job, but gives magenta color cast that anyway should be fixed in post-production. So it doesnt really save time in front of the computer. 2) similar results could be achieved by changing WB in the camera or in post. 3) Doesnt work with Lucroit filter holder for 2mm filters. This filter slips out from the holder.

Quickly fell from filter frame and shattered

I use a 100mm Lee frame.  Going out to test the Nisi for first time inserted it in the near slot.  In far slot inserted my Lonely Speck night sky focusing filter.  With camera against chest on neck strap and tripod in left hand had not gone 50 paces when the Nisi slipped out and shattered at my feet.  (Lonely Speck filter hadnt moved a micron.)  Suspect the glass Nisi is thinner and slicker than the composite or polycarbonate Lee and Lonely Speck filters.  Be warned:  If you put a Nisi filter in a Lee frame, wrap the rim with gaffer tape.  This was a lot of money down the drain, but I did eyeball a street lamp through one of the broken pieces.

Dramatic Results!!!

I purchased the NiSi 100 x 100mm natural-Night Filter just before going on a trip to San Francisco for the first time. A friend saw this filter and mentioned it to me. Intrigued, I purchased one. Well, I must say, the results for me were very dramatic to say the least. Using this filter has already cut my processing time, and, I am not even completely sure I could achieve these pleasing results no matter how much I tortured the pixels in Lightroom or Photoshop. My only potential negative would be that on the first use, this filter slid out of my Lee filter holder, even though it felt snug when I inserted it. I am most thankful that it did not land on a hard surface! My Lee brand filters stay securely in the same filter holder with this never ever being a problem. I'm guessing the NiSi filter is ever so slightly thinner than the Lee products. Whatever the case, I need to figure out a way to keep this from happening again. Other than that, I am looking forward to seeing what else this amazing piece of glass can do. Several of my San Francisco night photos (like the iconic painted ladies houses of Alamo Square with the San Francisco skyline behind for instance) have benefited greatly from the use of this new filter. Be careful if you use a Lee foundation kit (perhaps it's merely some issue specific to only my equipment), but other than that, I can completely recommend this filter for game-changing results! The attached unprocessed RAW photos were both shot at ISO 200 and f/6.3. The one without the filter was exposed for 1 second and the one with the filter was exposed for 2 seconds, to yield similar exposure levels (I shot in aperture priority mode with no change in the lighting on the scene or adjustment to the camera). So there is at least a minimal reduction in the amount of light passing through to the sensor when using the Natural-Night filter. Also, I left my Canon 5D Mark IV on auto white balance as I found it produced the best results for me.

I have the LEE Filters LEE100 Filter Holder, it is posible to use it with this filter?
Asked by: Mariana
I measured my NiSi natural night filter and it's 2 mm thick (and 100 mm H x W), so yes it will work with the LEE 100 nicely. I have a Lee foundation kit (Lee FK) which is designed for 4 mm thick filters, so I had to "shim" the NiSi to prevent it from falling out. It will fit your LEE 100 much better.

how do I know what to choose? 100x100 or 150mmx150 or 180x180mm? I don't have a holder yet either, so want to get everything to fit my 62mm ring lens and my 67mm lens ring
Asked by: Lori
You purchase threaded adapters to fit the holder on to each lens. Then use the same holder and filters in it. I think the 100x100 is the most universal unless you have very large lenses.
