Gitzo GIGT1555T Traveler Series 1 Carbon Fiber Tripod

The Gitzo GIGT1555T Traveler Series 1 Carbon Fiber Tripod is a compact support system with legs that fold around the center column and optional head. These reverse-folding legs contribute to the tripod's folded length of just 14". It extends to 54.3" high and can hold up to 22 lb worth of gear. With the included short center column installed, the tripod can get down to 7.9" for macro or low-angle shooting.

The tripod employs Carbon eXact tubing for added strength and stiffness compared to the Carbon 6X tubes. Traveler G-lock is a pared-down version of Gitzo's G-lock, specifically designed for the Traveler tripods to reduce overall size. These legs feature space-saving feet that fit the Traveler series' compact design. A shoulder strap is included for easy carrying.

The GH1382TQD Series 1 Traveler Center Ball Head from Gitzo is an Arca-type compatible ball head that is compatible with Traveler Series 0 and 1 tripods, has a load capacity of 24 lb, an independent panning lock for 360° rotation, and a height of 4.1". The head weighs 0.9 lb and has a tungsten disulfide coating to help keep the ball movement smooth while it minimizes sticking and slipping. A screw lock lock tightens down on the included quick release plate, and a bubble level helps maintain straight horizons in your images.

I wanted a new travel tripod that was as small as possible while still able to support a decent amount of weight reliably. I'm taking a long weekend trip/flight to the coastal redwoods and wanted smaller than what I already had as I'm only taking a carry-on and personal item. For me, this is perfect. Folded up, it easily fits in my personal item (Gura Gear 16L). The GITZO GT1555T is a light weight tripod which I purchased because of my need for a tripod that was both light and which could fold in to a small package and fit on my backpack. I found it to be surprisingly sturdy. My initial concern was the strength of the ball head's connection. To my surprise it easily held my Canon R5 with the Canon EF 200-400mm f4L with its built in 1.4x tele-converter and the CF-RF adapter required for use with the R series cameras. The Gitzo tripod (GT 1555T) held this rig at all angles in a 12 knot breeze on the beach. Needless to say I am very satisfied.

Super nice tripod, very compact folds up to 14" and will fit in backpack without screaming photo equipment to thieves. Previously I had a Sirui 1205 which also folds to the same length but the Gitzo is just in another class. It is much more stable and just as light. I couldn't be happier with my purchase and as always B&H customer service is first class. It is a pricey tripod but you can buy with confidence as you know you are buying quality, Two gripes, you have to buy the hook to hang a bag on the tripod fir $30.00 and there is not a padded carrying case, For $642.00 you should not have to pay extra for these. Otherwise this is class leading compact and super lightweight tripod. 4 stars because you buy the hook and padded case

I've always loved the quality and durability of Gitzo, though I always take the time to research other solutions that may be less expensive. I look for value, combined with quality construction and weight. The result is I always come back to Gitzo, and in this case it was because of overall size, compactness and weight. The Ball head has the right amount of friction and control that gives you confidence that nothing will change once you've framed your shot. That and I find the knob adjustment for changing length easier than levers. As I own a Systematic tripod as well, it's nice having consistency of adjustment. To summarize, this is an ideal tripod for backpacking, travel by air when you need to pack your tripod in luggage, or if you're looking for the lightest and strongest package for mirrorless or DSLR cameras.

after 45 years of using my aluminum Gitzo, it was time to upgrade to carbon fiber, same legs basically but folds smaller and with the head, lighter? a little. very stable. The plate that screws onto the camera needs padding or something to ensure a tight fit on the camera so the camera don't twist.

Is there a spring in there, if the horizontal adjust knob is completely removed (like it is for bigger knob)? Also when this knob is unscrewed, can the ball head move really easily? Mine still has some decent friction. Not sure if I got a dud. Thanks.

No there is not a spring in the horizontal adjust knob. If the tension setting is set to about 0 and the knob other knobs are unscrewed the head will move some what freely.

Does this ball head control easy with Tele Vue TV60 and TV85 ? Or I should out the Tele Vue Tele-Pod Alt-Az Yoke Mount on the tripod ? Could I put the Tele Vue Tele-Pod Alt-Az Yoke Mount on the tripod ? Thanks

The TeleVue TV60 can be used with a photo tripod like the GT1555T or tripod that can hold 18 lbs or more. However, we do not recommend the TV60 for use with a ball head even though it is possible to mount one there. A pan/tilt head like the Gitzo 3-Way Fluid Head, B&H # GIGHF3W would be best in this case. For the TV85, a yoke is required. https://bhpho.to/2U8Io8S

Is there a screw or something else which prevents the tripod head from becoming loose without a tool?

There is a ring which tights to allow you to adjust the height of the straight top piece so you can set the height & tighten. The ball head has 2 knobs - one allows you rotate the head on the vertical axis - the other allows you to adjust the ball head angle - when screwed down all the way it tightens so the head 7 thus the mount will not move.
