Gitzo Traveler GIGT1545T Reviews

2 Year Report

This has been my everyday tripod for the past two years for architectural and cityscape shots in NYC. I have been using it with a Manfrotto 410 Junior Gear Head and a Nikon d850. It's been simply wonderful. Like others, I had some trouble at first with the feet falling off, as I was unscrewing them when extending the legs, but that problem went away as I got used to the tripod. It's a great piece of gear.

Amazing with a few quirks

This tripod is amazing for both weight and size. I've hiked hundreds of miles with it to support my spotting scope and I have absolute confidence in its stability every time I use it. The only problems I have had are with the screws. The screws on the legs get loose rather frequently so that the legs flop around. It comes with the tools to tighten them, but it shouldn't be necessary to tighten the legs every other week. The tripod feet also come loose easily and have caused me to lose them unless I check every day whether they needed to be retightened. Both are minor inconveniences for me.

This tripod is light and strong and solid. It folds up small to clip on my backpack. I love it.

The best tripod ever.

Gitzo Series 1 GT 1545 Carbon Fiber Traveler Tripod

Since going to a mirrorless camera my travel tripod needs have been greatly reduced. When traveling normally the largest lens I will be using will be a 70-200 f2.8 with a combined camera + lens weight of approx. 5 1/2 lbs. so my large Gitzo was overkill for travel. I still need the large tripod for large lenses for wildlife work, but for normal travel the Gitzo Series 1 is very stable and suits my travel needs perfectly, and as always I purchase for B & H ..

Sticky leg locks

The leg twist leg locks are really sticky meaning the threads were dry with no lubricant for a smooth operation . This is my second set of Gitzo carbon tripods . The others had the same problem . So , to correct this I have A tube of Sil-Glide sold by NAPA which I use on other equipment to prevent binding . Just loosen the twist lock on each joint so you can see the threads . Smear some on each lock and this will give you a smooth fit . This cost me about 3 cents to correct . It will not cost Gitzo but about 3 cents per tripod and if this amount is going to effect their bottom line then just add it to the cost of the product . Other than this all is OK . By the way GITZO use to include a lubricant in a tube with the tripods . This was years ago .

Ultralight Travel Tripod

This is my first Gitzo and it is exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a lightweight travel tripod that I could fold up and fit in my carry on luggage and that I can also hike with. I had an aluminum travel tripod but this is a pound lighter which is very noticeable when hiking. It is rated to hold 22 lb and seems sturdy enough for everyday use. I have only used it a few times at this point but so far I am happy with my purchase.

Nice and light

Had an older 2-series Mountaineer for 10 years but it was not really mean for travel due to the size and weight when paired with a larger ball head. For traveling I used a MeFoto for a while but I was not happy with the feel of the thing after being spoiled by a Gitzo. Very happy with the new tripod so far and looking forward to taking it along for many adventures. The main downsides are the lack of a hook that you need to purchase separately and the lack of options for spiked feet. The spiked feet are only for the 2 series or above.

question

Does leg feel soft when it is fully extended? I have a Sirui T025x, compact but soft when extended. My main concer of upgrading. Also, is T2545T a more study tripod comparing to T1545?
Asked by: Harry
The last leg section of the GIGT1545T is much more sturdier than the Sirui T025x. The leg is thicker as well. When comparing the T2545T to the T1545, the T2545T will win in sturdiness.

You, can use that with a gimbal but it also depends on the weight and length of the lens you are using. Best is for you to come into chat and discuss your setup to see if it is compatible.

Is the max height with center col up ?
Asked by: sal
Yes, max height is with the center column up. Without that, it is a little over 51 inches. I use an RRS head which brings it up to 54 inches without the center column. Extending the center column fully feels a bit unstable to me, so i don't extend it fully ever.
