EVGA GTX 1080 Ti FTW3 overview

  • 1Description

Based on NVIDIA's Pascal architecture and designed to handle the graphical demands of 4K gaming, the EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti FTW3 GAMING Graphics Card provides major improvements in performance, memory bandwidth, and power efficiency over its predecessor, the high-performance Maxwell architecture. It also introduces innovative graphics features and technologies that redefine the computer as the platform for playing AAA games and taking full advantage of virtual reality via NVIDIA VRWorks.

The front panel of the card features a variety of outputs. There are three DisplayPort 1.4 outputs, an HDMI 2.0b output, and a DVI-D Dual-Link output. The GTX 1080 Ti is not just about high-resolution gaming. Computationally intensive programs can utilize the GPU's 3584 cores to accelerate tasks using CUDA or other APIs. This GPU has an adjustable RGB LED that can be controlled in EVGA Precision X OC.

EVGA implemented iCX technology, which is more than just a cooler. It features 9 thermal sensors and multiple MCUs. It also allows for asynchronous fan control. The left fan can be determined by the GPU temperature while the right fan can be determined by power/memory temperature. You also have full control in EVGA Precision XOC. EVGA also installed a fuse that adds another layer of protection to your card and system. The dual double ball-bearing fans and the optimized airflow fin design provide the airflow your GPU needs in order to stay cool.

VRWorks
VRWorks Graphics includes a simultaneous multi-projection capability that renders natively to the unique dimensions of VR displays instead of traditional 2D monitors. It also renders geometry for the left and right eyes simultaneously in a single pass.

VRWorks Audio uses the NVIDIA OptiX ray-tracing engine to trace the path of sounds across an environment in real-time, fully reflecting the size, shape, and material of the virtual world.

NVIDIA PhysX for VR detects when a hand controller interacts with a virtual object, and enables the game engine to provide a physically accurate visual and haptic response. It also models the physical behavior of the virtual world around the user so that all interactions -- whether an explosion or a hand splashing through water -- behave as if in the real world.
NVIDIA Ansel
With Ansel, gamers can compose the gameplay shots they want, pointing the camera in any direction and from any vantage point within a gaming world. They can capture screenshots at up to 32 times the screen resolution, and then zoom in where they choose without losing fidelity. With photo-filters, they can add effects in real-time before taking the shot. And they can capture 360-degree stereo photospheres for viewing in a VR headset or Google Cardboard.
SLI Ready
With a compatible motherboard and a connecting bracket, two or more NVIDIA GPUs of the same model can combine processing power using NVIDIA's Scalable Link Interface (SLI). How the cards work together can be customized to suit your preferences. Alternate frame rendering has each alternating card prepare the next frame, essentially multiplying the capabilities of a single card's maximum capable frame rate output. Each card in the configuration can also be used to improve anti-aliasing by being able to process an image in parallel with the other cards before filtering out jagged edges.

NVIDIA's SLI HB bridge doubles the available transfer bandwidth compared to the NVIDIA Maxwell architecture. Delivering smooth gameplay, it's an effective way to enjoy surround gaming and it's only compatible with the GeForce GTX 1070, 1080, 1080 Ti, and TITAN X graphics cards.

Note: The benefits of SLI will vary based on component configuration.
CUDA
NVIDIA's parallel computing platform which enables an increase in computing performance by harnessing the parallel nature of GPU processing. CUDA compatible applications can assign intensive parallel computing tasks, such as real-time video rendering, to the GPU to process, freeing up the computer's CPU to run other tasks.
G-SYNC Ready
When used with a monitor that has G-SYNC hardware installed, the monitor's refresh rate will sync and lock with the graphics card's output frame rate. Establishing this sync removes tearing and stuttering which can result from conventional fixed screen refresh rates, especially important for gaming in stereoscopic 3D. An additional benefit of G-SYNC is reduced lag so gamers will benefit from the improved command response time as well.
NVIDIA GPU Boost 3.0
Boosts the card's clock speed in real-time based on the target temperature. If the card is running below the set target temperature, GPU Boost 3.0 will increase the clock speed to improve performance. The target temperature can be reset depending on your preference so you can have the card run more quietly for everyday tasks and older games, and run at full tilt during intense high-resolution gaming sequences.

EVGA GTX 1080 Ti FTW3 reviews

GeForce GTX 1080 Ti FTW3 GAMING Graphics Card is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 59.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very powerful GPU This thing runs any game in my library at Ultra settings with no issue; I currently run a 2560 x 1600 monitor and I have no problem maintaining 60 fps no matter how I configure the graphics. I disabled VSYNC out of curiosity and was getting frame rates hitting 200 fps in DOOM (2016 version) with all settings maxed out; card temps (GPU, Power, Memory) stayed under 70C. During normal operation (60 fps cap) the card temps rarely get to 60C. I'm running an overclock of +50Mhz on the GPU and +400Mhz on the memory via EVGA Precision X; no problems with stability. B&H had the card in stock and cheaper than other outlets. It came well packaged and with no shipping issues.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, functional but arrived with broken seals? This card is by all means great. Cool, fast, no functionality issues so far. My issue is with the packaging on how it arrived. This card arrived with no shrink wrap, even though EVGA is supposed to shrink wrap all their video cards. Also, the tape on the box was half-broken, as shown in the uploaded photos. Luckily all the plastic was still on the graphics card and it didn't seem like anyone had tampered with the anti static bag the card was in. So the conclusion: this card is worth your money, but I don't know if I would buy again from here in the future due to the unanswered questions about the packaging.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Blazing fast Plays most games at 4K resolution without missing a beat. Driver installation is easy with nVidia's GeForce Experience app. EVGA includes a full-featured overclocking app, which could use a little polishing, but gets the job done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast cool and quiet! This is without a doubt the one of the coolest and quietest running air cooled 1080ti cards. It looks fantastic too. Full RGB with two zones + status leds (the side logo area which lights up the fans a bit is one zone, the back logo is the other zone, and the three leds for temperatures can be set to any color you want too). The card generally drools of high quality. It's large-ish but not too heavy. EVGA support is top of it's class too which makes this card a slam dunk!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best of the best SYSTEM BUILD: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ GTX 1080ti FTW3 i7-6850k w/ Noctua NH-D15 cooler EVGA 850W Platinum PSU 32gb 3000mhz Corsair Dominator Ram ASRock Fata1ity Professional Gaming i7 motherboard Samsung 960 evo 500gb m.2 PCI-E SSD Western Digital Black 4tb HDD Creative Soundblaster Z ASUS ROG PG279Q 1440p 165hz IPS Monitor ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- OVERVIEW: Out of the box, without touching a single setting in Afterburner or Precision X, this card boosts and maintains 1949mhz core frequency. It is very quiet under load with the default fan curve and stays between 62-68C while under 100% load in extended gameplay sessions. It is a beautiful, well-built, marvelous piece of technology that screams PREMIUM and is worth every penny. PROS: This GPU shreds everything I throw at it. Do yourself a favor and use this beast with a high refresh 1440p GSYNC monitor because it is a match made in heaven. Most games (even the latest and greatest triple A) will stay over 100fps at all times. In some games like PUBG (an early access game with poor optimization) even when you get dips down into the 70s (with all settings maxed plus ReShade galore) it still feels smooth because of the GSYNC. There is NOTHING that this card can't obliterate at 1440p and once you go high-refresh GSYNC, you will never go back. I have been a gamer for 10 years and going from 1080p/60hz to 1440p/165hz/GSYNC was by and far the single biggest upgrade I have ever made. As many of the online reviewers show, you can run 4k on this card. I have a 4k TV that I will occasionally hook up to this and play some Dark Souls. Yes, it is glorious. But I will still take 1440p high refresh any time. It just feels so good to never have to compromise on quality. With this card, you can have all the eye candy plus the high refresh rate or 4k. Beyond all that, EVGA's legendary customer service gives me confidence in my purchase. I know that they stand behind their products and are very responsive to their customers. When you are spending this much money on a GPU, you need to rest assured that the warranty provider is honorable and fair. EVGA is the best in the business. CONS: This card is HUGE. It BARELY fit in my NZXT Phantom 410. It does put out some significant heat in the case. Make sure you set up proper ventilation. My case has a spot for a side fan (which I never used before this card). Once I installed that side fan, temps dropped by 10C under load. Also, thanks to GPU Boost 3.0, overclocking is basically superflous. Just crank up the memory by 400mhz and work from there. The highest overclock I can get is 2000mhz on teh core, which translates to 1-2 frames in game over the 1949 it boosts to without overclocking. With the extra power required for core overclocking, I just leave it alone. It is a quiet, sexy, game slasher. Buy this and you will be a very happy gamer. I can't recommend it strongly enough. The 1080ti is the best gamer GPU, and the FTW3 is the best of the best. Also, BHPHOTOVIDEO is a great store that I have used for years and have never had any problems with their customer service.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Card, Great Shopping for Canadians Bought this card in late May, waited a few months for testing purposes before writing this review. Card works great, likely the best card on the market in the 1080 class. EVGA is a rock solid company with top notch customer service as well. The software works great, install was easy. Card is Super quiet. I live in Canada and the site is advertised. Pay the USD and then the Provincial sales tax using the Recommended Fast and Easy Pre-Pay option. B&H handles all the duties and shipping for you, super simple and saves you the buyer a lot of hassle and nonsense (paperwork.) It likely will save you money as well, as I had a BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro 4 CPU Cooling fan shipped up by a friend and the duty I got hit on combined with the shipping fees cost me. Plus it took 12 days to get here. Wish I had found B&H a week sooner would have saved me 50 bucks getting it from them. Not to mention I had the Card in like 3 or 4 days. Anyway, I read a review here stating something similar about the ease of dealing with B&H the guy was from Australia. So I took the leap and submitted my purchase order that night. Now I just want to do a lil "pay it forward" for others and fellow Canadians to know this is a solid option for purchasing gear as the experience is good, and the service is as advertised. I would most definitely buy from B&H again. Thanks Aussie guy

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A compact Beast Upgrading from a 1080 to the 1080ti, you will see a significant difference, especially in this card. It's Overclocked right out of the box and provides more potential that most other manufacturers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The greatest 1080Ti 2 Slot form factor. Cool and quiet operation. Overclocks well with GPU 3.0 Boost alone. Probably the best 1080 Ti on the market currently. Hands down this is the one to buy.
