EVGA GTX 1080 Ti SC2 overview

  • 1Description

Based on NVIDIA's Pascal architecture and designed to handle the graphical demands of 4K gaming, the EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti SC2 GAMING Graphics Card provides major improvements in performance, memory bandwidth, and power efficiency over its predecessor, the high-performance Maxwell architecture. It also introduces innovative graphics features and technologies that redefine the computer as the platform for playing AAA games and taking full advantage of virtual reality via NVIDIA VRWorks.

The front panel of the card features a variety of outputs. There are three DisplayPort 1.4 outputs, an HDMI 2.0b output, and a DVI-D Dual-Link output. The GTX 1080 Ti is not just about high-resolution gaming. Computationally intensive programs can utilize the GPU's 3584 cores to accelerate tasks using CUDA or other APIs. This GPU has an adjustable RGB LED that can be controlled in EVGA Precision X OC.

EVGA implemented iCX technology, which is more than just a cooler. It features 9 thermal sensors and multiple MCUs. It also allows for asynchronous fan control. The left fan can be determined by the GPU temperature while the right fan can be determined by power/memory temperature. You also have full control in EVGA Precision XOC. EVGA also installed a fuse that adds another layer of protection to your card and system. The dual double ball-bearing fans and the optimized airflow fin design provide the airflow your GPU needs in order to stay cool.

VRWorks
VRWorks Graphics includes a simultaneous multi-projection capability that renders natively to the unique dimensions of VR displays instead of traditional 2D monitors. It also renders geometry for the left and right eyes simultaneously in a single pass.

VRWorks Audio uses the NVIDIA OptiX ray-tracing engine to trace the path of sounds across an environment in real-time, fully reflecting the size, shape, and material of the virtual world.

NVIDIA PhysX for VR detects when a hand controller interacts with a virtual object, and enables the game engine to provide a physically accurate visual and haptic response. It also models the physical behavior of the virtual world around the user so that all interactions -- whether an explosion or a hand splashing through water -- behave as if in the real world.
NVIDIA Ansel
With Ansel, gamers can compose the gameplay shots they want, pointing the camera in any direction and from any vantage point within a gaming world. They can capture screenshots at up to 32 times the screen resolution, and then zoom in where they choose without losing fidelity. With photo-filters, they can add effects in real-time before taking the shot. And they can capture 360-degree stereo photospheres for viewing in a VR headset or Google Cardboard.
SLI Ready
With a compatible motherboard and a connecting bracket, two or more NVIDIA GPUs of the same model can combine processing power using NVIDIA's Scalable Link Interface (SLI). How the cards work together can be customized to suit your preferences. Alternate frame rendering has each alternating card prepare the next frame, essentially multiplying the capabilities of a single card's maximum capable frame rate output. Each card in the configuration can also be used to improve anti-aliasing by being able to process an image in parallel with the other cards before filtering out jagged edges.

NVIDIA's SLI HB bridge doubles the available transfer bandwidth compared to the NVIDIA Maxwell architecture. Delivering smooth gameplay, it's an effective way to enjoy surround gaming and it's only compatible with the GeForce GTX 1070, 1080, 1080 Ti, and TITAN X graphics cards.

Note: The benefits of SLI will vary based on component configuration.
CUDA
NVIDIA's parallel computing platform which enables an increase in computing performance by harnessing the parallel nature of GPU processing. CUDA compatible applications can assign intensive parallel computing tasks, such as real-time video rendering, to the GPU to process, freeing up the computer's CPU to run other tasks.
G-SYNC Ready
When used with a monitor that has G-SYNC hardware installed, the monitor's refresh rate will sync and lock with the graphics card's output frame rate. Establishing this sync removes tearing and stuttering which can result from conventional fixed screen refresh rates, especially important for gaming in stereoscopic 3D. An additional benefit of G-SYNC is reduced lag so gamers will benefit from the improved command response time as well.
NVIDIA GPU Boost 3.0
Boosts the card's clock speed in real-time based on the target temperature. If the card is running below the set target temperature, GPU Boost 3.0 will increase the clock speed to improve performance. The target temperature can be reset depending on your preference so you can have the card run more quietly for everyday tasks and older games, and run at full tilt during intense high-resolution gaming sequences.

EVGA GTX 1080 Ti SC2 reviews

GeForce GTX 1080 Ti SC2 GAMING Graphics Card is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 39.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Experience the Best Gaming Performance! I ordered the the GTX 1080 Ti SC2 on Nov. 27 and received it by Dec. 4 (package from NYC going to LA) At first I'm hesitating to get this GPU because I had a hard time to decide which one to get, The FTW3 or the SC2, but I think getting the SC2 is worth a buy specially it's on sale (& also NO TAX on B&H). So I got the SC2 and gave it a try. Did few benchmarks, overclocks and it did what it suppose to do. I upgraded from GTX 980ti (not SLI) and was overwhelmed on the results. Luckily I received a very good card. No problem on the fan noise/whine & temp. It runs on my PC smoothly. I absolutely love my purchase. Before writing this review I tested the GTX 1080 Ti with new and old games for more than a week. And the results are always Amazing. btw I tested the 1080 Ti SC2 with Dell S2417DG 2560x1440, 165Hz and with ASUS ROG SWIFT PG248Q,180Hz -both 1ms and a TN Panel. Both monitors works perfectly with the GPU.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best bang for your buck Even with the new GRX 2080s and 2080 TIs on the market, the 1080 TI is still the best value. The 2080s are expected to be slower than the 1080ti in modern games but with additional ray tracing cores. The 2080 TIs are expected to be faster in today's games but only by 15-20%, and with the ray tracing technology but at twice the price. Just built my new rig complete with 8700k and it's a beast. I need to upgrade my monitor to 1440p and 165hz to push this card at all. Also, specifically with the SC2 - independent research shows that all 3rd party 1080 TIs developed after the SC2 have no better cooling or performance attributes. Quietness, maybe, but that is of no concern to me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More than doubled the performance from my 970 Bought this card on sale for $600. For that price, I more than doubled my framerates vs. my GTX 970, or matched the framerates at significantly higher graphics settings. Even though the card is advertised as having a speed of 1670MHz, it regularly reaches over 1900MHz, and I have manage to overclock the memory speed by an additional 400MHz with no additional cooling (but upped the speed on my case fans to compensate). The card pairs particularly well with a G-Sync monitor, but you have to remember to enable G-Sync + fast sync/vsync. Great value at $600 currently.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beast of a card Beast of a card. This is attached to an older i7 3960x running at 4.7Ghz (6c/12ht) with 30 Dell (2560x1600). Upgrading from 680 4GB in SLI. Lower power consumption and improved performance. Can't ask for anything more. Every game runs excellent at full res and Ultra settings. Very happy. Quiet during normal workstation (photo editing/spreadsheets/programming) & leisure (web/videos) tasks. Fans kick up during gaming but can't hear anything over speakers unless I try. Very happy with purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GeForce GTX 1080 Ti SC2 GAMING Graphics Card Very, very nice card. Very quiet. I don't do much gaming, so can't comment on that. I got it to do 3D rendering using its 3000 plus Cuda score. Works very well in that respect. GPU temps stay below 65 degrees C and memory temps below 70 degrees C. Installation was easy and straight forward, but the power diagrams and instruction could use some help. Have not played with over clocking as yet. Longest renders was a bit under 2 hours IRAY at 99.5% convergence, the same render using a AMD 9370E on CPU render was over 26 hours long. All in all very pleased after just 14 days. The only bad thing I can say is that EVGA's website needs lots of work. Had a very hard time finding the correct downloads. For spending almost $800 dollars I would expect all of that stuff be included, or at least much eaiser to find. I had to fill in three different accounts to get what I need.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Watch out! I returned a card that jumped like crazy and had a noisy fan and got hit with a restocking fee, even though I ordered another card from them. Crazy! Definitely my first AND last purchase from these guys!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great card Great card, the EVGA heatsink keeps the card at a very stable 62-65c in my case (my case has very good airflow which helps), which is much better than my blower style 1070 ever got (it was usually pegged at 82c). Some coil whine when at high GFX load, but still a great card.
