    Canon MF634CDW reviews

imageCLASS MF634Cdw All-in-One Color Laser Printer is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 21.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Printer for the Price Range Setup of the printer was easy. Wish they has included a CD for Mac but downloading from the web worked just as well. it's a 2 step setup process when installing the driver and software on a Mac. First you have to install the driver. Then have to go into Preferences and add the printer. Manual is terrible I must say. Network setting should allow more manual control. Wireless setup happened first time and was easy. Even changed networks and setup worked just as well. First copy time takes a moment. Color and clarity is great and clean. Sound during printing is quite as well. Looking to get a second one for my son in college to relieve him of inkjet issues.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not reliable at all, difficult to setup I bought this printer about a year ago, and since I brought it home, I've had problems. I sometimes spend two hours trying to get it to print one document, with no luck and seemingly no trick as to get it to work consistently. The printer just doesn't respond, and waits for hours to print a job. In fact, it's so unreliable, I've resisted throwing out the old printer I bought this one to replace. I will be getting rid of the newer printer before I get rid of the old one. My advice would be to buy simpler. Perhaps this one has too many features to be of use, and is unnecessarily complicated. Not worth the money.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I wish I could send it back.... I purchased the printer two months ago. I have not been able to scan properly as of yet. Although I have set up the remote UI, it keeps telling me it needs to be registered so I am stuck scanning the old fashioned way. I cannot even use the feeder. Then, just last week it started going offline on me and every single time I want to print over wifi, I now need to reset my network preferences any time I want to print. I am so frustrated with this printer that I have wanted to dump it on the sidewalk and buy a cheapo printer because at least I know it will work. To make matters worse, it is nearly impossible to find fixes for these problems and they are not listed anywhere in the canon literature.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I've had better Pros: nice size footprint, scanner works well and is very fast from the auto feed, scanning and printing from the touchscreen is easy. Cons: there's no cancel button on the touchscreen so if you accidentally hit print you're going to be stuck with lots of wasted paper, set-up was a colossal PITA but works well once you're finally done, some pictures print with a random pink tint over them and some large fonts print completely skewed. The worst thing about this printer is the lag time from the time that you hit print and the time that the printer actually spools up. I just timed it on a simple word document with nothing but the word "test" written on it... 16 seconds from the time I hit print until the printer even starts to spool up (hard wired to my PC with a USB cable). Absolutely unaccepable.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good features but frustrating management Nice packaging, not overdone. Nice quality scans and printing. Powers on pretty quick. Big, reasonable sound level. Kinda small paper capacity. Canon toner looks kind of expensive, but acceptable for SOHO/low-quantity use, and the printer was really reasonably priced IMO. Software installation was tedious and confusingly multi-step, but I got it done ... I think :) The setup/management is hair-pullingly difficult - not only bad instructions, but some of the user interactions are downright silly (e.g., missing the ability to see/edit the SMTP gateway settings or the settings for the Scan-to folders, and you have to go to the machine and power off/on the unit to add a Destination, can't do this from the Remote UI). Touch panel is kinda flaky about when it senses a touch, and a lot of times when I'm trying to get to the next page of choices I end up activating the choice on the far right - I'd hate to try this with long fingernails! I've spent maybe 3 hours already just trying to get it to send a scan via Gmail :( - and, it looks like I can't trigger that function remotely, I have to stand at the control panel to do that. There was way more attention paid to getting some kind of "feature checklist" than to making sure it was usable in the real world. Overall, I'd recommend it to a friend who only needed basic functionality and was pretty computer-savvy for the setup phase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love my Canon - great buy! I've used many copier brands at work over many years; Canon has been the best. I equate Canon with quality. I searched for a device and chose this one to buy for myself. I was excited to buy this All in One printer / scanner / FAX for home use, a color laser for less than a quality inkjet with fewer features. Printing is amazing - even my lower resolution images look fantastic! Scanning is amazing - one of the few home printer/scanners I could find that allow *feeding* and double sided scanning. Perfect. I don't know why others complain about set up - it was easy and straight forward. I followed the steps and had no problems at all. I haven't used the FAX, however, because we use VOIP phone (need analog) and so I FAX through an app on my computer. I also like that, with the MF scanning program, I can initiate scanning from my computer or program the on-screen buttons on the device. I'm loving it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from complicated set up, but good printer I have been enjoying many aspects of this printer, like wireless printing, double sided printing, and quick color printing. The colors/quality seem decent enough to use for office/school work, but it doesn't print the clearest photos on standard printer paper. This printer is very large, which is okay for my space. I would measure to make sure it will fit your space before you get it. It also needs to have open space around the printer. It is very heavy and was somewhat difficult/awkward to get out of the box by myself. Some parts of setting it up were easy, like connecting it to wifi, but the included instructions were unclear and I searched how to do it. I still have not been able to successfully set up the scanning function. Overall I think this is a decent printer and if you have a tech person at your company or are willing to put in the time to try to figure out the scanning function, it isn't a bad choice. I received this printer for free in exchange for my honest review.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not happy with canon UI difficult to use and no instructions. Lack of detailed instructions on functions. Buggy with non-canon pdf programs. Starter toner cartridges? Really? Last, my honest detailed assessment was moderated for no reason. You improve products by receiving legit detailed critiques, not by moderating them out. customer lost.
