Pier Extension for EQ6/EQ6-R Mount is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Solid build, poor design I got this in anticipation of needing the extra clearance between the tripod and eyepiece/camera. I will say it is a solid piece of kit. Quality materials and good fit & finish. It does indeed raise the scope a respectable 8"+. This is where the good ends. The extension fits nice and flush to the tripod, but there is no way of locking it in place other than the center bolt. When the mount is connected directly to the tripod, the polar alignment stud keeps the mount/scope from moving(swiveling), unless you adjust the alignment knobs. When this mount is installed, the alignment stud is removed from the tripod and re-attached to the top of the extender. The mount attaches firmly, but due to the lack of some sort of anchor, the bottom swivels against the tripod with the lightest bump. There is no real fix for this without drilling and tapping. Some have suggested a gasket of thin foam between the tripod and extender, but I have tried with no good results. For what this item costs, one would think the designer would have addressed this issue. 1/2 hour to get exact polar alignment is wasted at the slightest nudge. If you're not doing astro-photography, or you are a terrestrial viewer, then this is not much of an issue. But if you need exact, and don't want to mill/drill, then take a pass on this. Bottom line; Well built, but poor design. I included a pic detailing the mount compared with the extension. Sorry for the bad pic.
