Lensbaby Sweet Spot Spark overview

  • 1Description

A bright normal-length lens with a unique tilting design, the Canon EF-mount 50mm f/2.5 Sweet Spot Spark Lens from Lensbaby affords you extensive control over selective focus effects for producing creative images in-camera. Compared to the original Lensbaby Spark, this dedicated optic is notably faster and offers an adjustable aperture range from f/2.5 to f/22 for controlling how large the sweet spot of focus is. The distinct tilting lens body also allows you to position your area of focus about the scene in order to draw attention to off-center subjects and dramatically blur away other portions of the image. The lens itself is a multi-coated glass doublet, which produces the distinctly sharp yet ethereal image quality Lensbabies are known for, and the flexible housing permits manual focusing on subjects as close as 9" away.

Normal-length 50mm f/2.5 lens is suitable for use with full-frame Canon EF-mount DSLRs, however can also be used with APS-C models where it will provide an 80mm equivalent focal length.
The f/2.5 maximum aperture is notably brighter than the standard Spark optic, and its adjustable range to f/22 affords more control over how large the selective focus portion of the image is.
Flexible lens body produces the distinct Lensbaby look and allows you to control where the sweet spot of focus is in the image area.
Lens body also permits manual control over focus, with a minimum focusing distance of 9".
Multi-coated glass doublet optical design.

    Lensbaby Sweet Spot Spark reviews

50mm f/2.5 Sweet Spot Spark Lens for Canon EF is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Tilt must be hand held The photo showing this lens is a little misleading. The lens will not maintain the tilt unless it is manually held. Once you release the front of the lens it springs back to the normally un-tilted position. Optics are good, quality is good for the price. If you plan to use a tripod , the stability is compromised because you have to hold the front of the lens in place

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun and good practice I am definitely an amateur photographer but so far I enjoy this lens. I need to play with it a little more but having to squeeze the lens to focus it has actually helped me with getting a sharper image (something I have struggled with a little bit in the past). Very creative and fun to play with.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun lens! I paired this with my A7s using a MC-11 adapter and found that the lens is very sharp. This is small and light enough to keep in my bag for creative shots. It's definitely a keeper.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Join the challenge I am living in the Philippines and tried without success to find a place where I could try Lensbabies. And therefore, the special offer of B&H for a Lensbaby 50mm F/2.5 Sweet Spot Spark Lens for Canon EF came as a most welcome surprise. Initial hesitation regarding the reliability of shipping in the Philippines turned out to be too pessimistic. From order to receipt 10 days (incl. a long Philippine weekend for customs). Done. The set bought represents (almost) the early stage of this kind of experimental lens. And this makes you wish having a diverse set of fingers which would allow you more easily 1. to adjust the distance of the lens to the camera, which is required to focus, 2. manage the tilt of the lens, which moves the sweet spot to the place where you feel it should be, 3. to keep the move of the lens and camera synchronized and stable, and 4. to operate the shutter at the right time by keeping the other fingers “frozen”. No surprise that the very first pictures don’t only show the wonderful bokeh but to a lesser degree crisp parts and, all together, not necessarily, what you had in mind. Reverting to fully manual operation of the camera adds to the challenge using this lens. With all these not necessarily common undertakings you have to go back to what you have been told in the past, namely to take time to compose your photo. My advice for Quick-shooters: forget this adventure. For those, who have seen what other photographers have beautifully created with this thingy and who are able and willing to spend time for something new (at least it was for me) I would think it may also improve the general attitude towards better photos. That’s not too bad, isn’t it? The newer designs of Lensbabies, I imagine, make life (especially for the fingers) easier, yet at a quite nice price tag. My recommendation: the simple Lensbaby helps you finding out whether these experiments are something for you without initial high $-input. Product photographers with their small lightboxes might as well be interested in this genre. I will definitely continue twisting my fingers and, if mastering of the thingy will progress positively, consider the step-up to the newer products which reduce the chance of missing the focus only because pinky moved uncontrolled. Rudolf Krueger Pictures worthy showing the results may come at a later stage.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun lens The Lensbaby 50mm Sweet Spot Spark is turning into a fun lens to play around with. It does take awhile to get sharpness where I want it, yet with all lens they take playing and practicing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ..a beautiful toy Sometimes playing with things is more serious than one imagines. Who would think about all the aesthetic possibilities offered by these toy lenses. I have years doing and living of the photo and it is the first time that I play with my daily environments leaving aside my professional part. As a child I had many toys but this plastic lens has been the best, it has transported me to those images that I thought I had forgotten.
