Vanguard 264CT Overview

The Vanguard Alta Pro 2+ 263CT Tripod is constructed from carbon fiber to maximize durability while limiting weight. It supports up to 15.4 lb, measures 19.9" when folded, and can be positioned to a maximum height of 47.5", or 59.0" with its push-and-pull, rapid center column fully raised. Its 4-section legs each feature an independent spread as well as twist locks for rapid deployment. When the center column and the legs are retracted, the tripod stands at 18.8". Polymer covers on two of the legs provide a secure, comfortable grip while moving the tripod, and rubber feet help to enhance stability on a wide variety of surfaces.

Tripod heads, cameras, lenses, or sport optics that are compatible with a 1/4"-20 mount can be connected to top of the tripod's center column. For added versatility, the center column is connected to the tripod by a fulcrum that enables 90° of upwards or downwards tilt that can be locked into place. Additionally, the center column assembly permits 360° of independent rotation. With the ability to push and pull the center column at all times, those tilt and swivel movements allow the center column to be used as an extendable cross arm or a miniature camera boom. This allows an attached camera to be easily raised toward an elevated subject or over a scene. A camera that is placed toward the end of center column can be positioned perpendicular to the tripod, while the legs can be further lowered for a minimum height of 6.1". The camera can then be extended past the tripod's legs, which is particularly useful for copy stand or macro photography. For subjects along the ground, the center column can also be used to obtain low angles while the tripod's user is positioned comfortably behind the camera.

A nylon carry bag with a draw-string closure and shoulder strap is included for storage or transport.

Vanguard 264CT Reviews

like ALL my Vanguard equipment, this is a high quality item with nice features and superior finishes. I love the ease of operation and the way the center column works. I will continue to buy Vanguard as my first choice for their tripods and heads.

Versatile and Lightweight

The Vanguard 264CT has many unique features that are appealing. The ability of the center column to essentially be converted into a boom allows precise camera positioning in difficult situations where you need to work around obstacles in order to get the exact composition that you want in the frame. Additionally, the leg locks work easily but hold firmly. All knobs have good traction control. The tripod is extremely lightweight. However, it must be emphasized that this tripod has the major limitation that it is not intended for heavy equipment. As a practical matter, one pro-level DSLR plus a normal macro lens, and you've about reached it's usable limit. Anything past that is going to be unstable and asking for trouble. Still, as a secondary tripod it has proven extremely useful in situations where my larger, sturdier equipment would be problematic.

New utility for shooting

Unique center shaft design and movement capabilities allows new ways to interface with the camera and create compound movements for video. As a mere tripod it’s great, lightweight, collapses to 20”, beautiful physical design, great lock system, excellent material construction, dark grey/yellow color scheme. It immediately made redundant every Sirui tripod that I’d previously considered class leader in design/materials/price. The Vanguard 264 CT tripod is the new standard to which all others should be compared. GREAT WORK VANGUARD! I can’t wait to see what your design team is working on next. About me: I need equipment that travels small and light and is robust enough to capture full frame video on location on a commercial scale. Kit needs to be quick to setup, silent to use, require minimal space and compliments other tools.

A shorter quality tripod for travel

Like my other Vanguard tripod this is a beauty. Such a nice feel and the quality shows through. Great extra features using the center post.

Not very tough

Nice and light, supports a lot of weight, but after a little over a year of light duty, the locking mechanism doesnt work well and one of the legs sticks closed.  Not very strong.
