Kopul CMX-2-V2 overview

  • 1Description

The Kopul CMX-2-V2 is a passive, two-channel adapter that enables you to connect professional microphones or audio mixers via XLR connectors to camcorders and DSLR cameras equipped with an 3.5mm stereo mic input. It captures high-quality sound, which is in perfect sync with your picture—since the audio is recorded directly to the camera—eliminating the need for any post production processing.

Featuring a passive design, the CMX-2-V2 does not require batteries or power for operation and delivers excellent sound quality without coloration. Each channel is equipped with a stepped, rubber trim knob, which allows you to precisely adjust and balance the input signals to ensure optimum recording levels. The stereo aux input is ideal for connecting devices with 3.5mm audio output, such as smartphones, tablets, MP3 players, and more. Connect the unit's mic-level output to the mic input of your camera using the included coiled output cable. Additionally, a mono/stereo selector switch sends the audio signals to two separate channels when set to stereo, or combines the two channels when set to mono.

Compact, lightweight (at 5.3 oz), and with a rugged construction, the CMX-2-V2 easily mounts on a tripod or under a camera and can withstand the rigors of travel and field use.

    Kopul CMX-2-V2 reviews

CMX-2-V2 Two-Channel Passive DSLR XLR Adapter is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from AUX INPUT UPDATE*** I just wrote a review but realized why the aux input would not work for me. I usually lower the in camera input volume really low to keep a clean signal but if you have it too low you will not receive audio from your mp3 via aux input no matter how loud you have it set from the audio source as the input of the camera is not allowing enough signal to pass through if the cameras volume is set too low. I do not have to do this with the other inputs as I can raise those signal levels high enough to keep the cameras input levels really low. I hope that makes sense and helps someone else out!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No mixer/recorder? No problem! Okay, so I have the CMX-1-V2 two channel mini mixer and just got my hands on this one last night. I used it as soon as it came in for a low/no budget shoot for a dance instructor. I did not use my recorder and did not use my full size mixer either. I used a Sennheiser Lav system into the left channel with a Rode XLR to 3.5 jack. The speaker used for the dance was a wireless speaker with a daisy chain option via XLR. I used a XLR cable and ran it from the speaker to this mixer on the right channel. I had to adjust the balance of the speaker signal as its not a true output but a shared signal for stereo options but it still worked (to make this work I had to set it to mic instead of line). I opened it in Final Cut Pro X this morning and hit dual mono for the audio and it panned the audio correctly. You can also adjust each channel individually. This is an inexpensive tool for a quick mix or dual mix on the go especially if you do not have access to a recorder or a full size mixer. It worked out great for the circumstances. As far as the unit itself, It has a 1/4 20 mount on the top and bottom. If your set up is a little heavier I would not recommend mounting your heavier gear on top of this unit as it is mainly built of plastic. I did that at first but then just used a cold shoe to 1/4 20 adaptor and placed it on top of my camera instead. The CMX-1-V2 is built solid. This version is not as heavy duty but it has a few different features if you need them. I have never personally ran across a ground issue but if you do there is a switch to help eliminate those issues. This version also has XLR inputs and line switches for mixer inputs. You can still switch in between mono and stereo for both channels or left or right channels. You still get the option to use the aux input too. I have to figure that one out as I thought I could input an mp3 player but had no luck no matter what settings I set the mixer to. Maybe I misunderstood that function. If you are using a mixer and no recorder you can still use the stereo outputs on the mixer to go into the XLR inputs. This would be a nice in the box solution while being able to use more reliable cables and not having it affect the sound from your mixer. This also means you will have all the audio embedded in the footage ready to go with no need to sync audio later if you record the audio directly into your camera. Keep in mind that all of these units are passive and will not pass any sort of power. If you require Phantom power, plug in power ie; some lavs, rode micro then this will not do anything for you.
