ASUS GTX 1080 TI OC Edition overview

  • 1Description

Based on NVIDIA's Pascal architecture and designed to handle the graphical demands of 4K gaming, the ASUS Republic of Gamers Strix GeForce GTX 1080 TI OC Edition Graphics Card provides major improvements in performance, memory bandwidth, and power efficiency over its predecessor, the high-performance Maxwell architecture. It also introduces innovative graphics features and technologies that redefine the computer as the platform for playing AAA games and taking full advantage of virtual reality via NVIDIA VRWorks.

The front panel of the card features a variety of outputs. There are two DisplayPort 1.4 outputs, two HDMI 2.0b outputs, and a DVI-D output. The GTX 1080 Ti is not just about high-resolution gaming. Computationally intensive programs can utilize the GPU's 3584 cores to accelerate tasks using CUDA or other APIs.

For cooling, ASUS implemented their DirectCU III Cooler. It features Triple Wing-Blade fan design and two 10mm direct-GPU contact heat-pipes, which transport heat away from the GPU. 0 dB technology allows for the card to be completely silent when the GPU remains at a set temperature. This type of cooler is most useful in medium to large towers where airflow inside the case is not a concern.

VRWorks Graphics includes a simultaneous multi-projection capability that renders natively to the unique dimensions of VR displays instead of traditional 2D monitors. It also renders geometry for the left and right eyes simultaneously in a single pass.

VRWorks Audio uses the NVIDIA OptiX ray-tracing engine to trace the path of sounds across an environment in real-time, fully reflecting the size, shape, and material of the virtual world.

NVIDIA PhysX for VR detects when a hand controller interacts with a virtual object, and enables the game engine to provide a physically accurate visual and haptic response. It also models the physical behavior of the virtual world around the user so that all interactions -- whether an explosion or a hand splashing through water -- behave as if in the real world.
With Ansel, gamers can compose the gameplay shots they want, pointing the camera in any direction and from any vantage point within a gaming world. They can capture screenshots at up to 32 times the screen resolution, and then zoom in where they choose without losing fidelity. With photo-filters, they can add effects in real-time before taking the shot. And they can capture 360-degree stereo photospheres for viewing in a VR headset or Google Cardboard.
SLI Ready
With a compatible motherboard and a connecting bracket, two or more NVIDIA GPUs of the same model can combine processing power using NVIDIA's Scalable Link Interface (SLI). How the cards work together can be customized to suit your preferences. Alternate frame rendering has each alternating card prepare the next frame, essentially multiplying the capabilities of a single card's maximum capable frame rate output. Each card in the configuration can also be used to improve anti-aliasing by being able to process an image in parallel with the other cards before filtering out jagged edges.

NVIDIA's SLI HB bridge doubles the available transfer bandwidth compared to the NVIDIA Maxwell architecture. Delivering smooth gameplay, it's an effective way to enjoy surround gaming and it's only compatible with the GeForce GTX 1070, 1080, 1080 Ti, and TITAN X graphics cards.

Note: The benefits of SLI will vary based on component configuration.
NVIDIA's parallel computing platform which enables an increase in computing performance by harnessing the parallel nature of GPU processing. CUDA compatible applications can assign intensive parallel computing tasks, such as real-time video rendering, to the GPU to process, freeing up the computer's CPU to run other tasks.
G-SYNC Ready
When used with a monitor that has G-SYNC hardware installed, the monitor's refresh rate will sync and lock with the graphics card's output frame rate. Establishing this sync removes tearing and stuttering which can result from conventional fixed screen refresh rates, especially important for gaming in stereoscopic 3D. An additional benefit of G-SYNC is reduced lag so gamers will benefit from the improved command response time as well.
NVIDIA GPU Boost 3.0
Boosts the card's clock speed in real-time based on the target temperature. If the card is running below the set target temperature, GPU Boost 3.0 will increase the clock speed to improve performance. The target temperature can be reset depending on your preference so you can have the card run more quietly for everyday tasks and older games, and run at full tilt during intense high-resolution gaming sequences.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best performance you can get for now. No issues so far, qreat quality video card. Mine does have coil whine if i let the fps run wild like at splash main menus or other static images where the fps can go to 3-4 hundred. but other then that its running like a dream, Would recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A+++ Amazing new PC Build! Amazing video card, paired with a i7 8700k and 32gb RGB Tridentz ram. All I need now is the new PG35VQ monitor by ASUS. I will order that from B&H as soon as it's available. Right now I'm using a 1080p 60hz -_- . B&H is #1 because no tax and free shipping. Amazon is second. Thanks B&H. Will shop here again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you want the best in graphic card performance If you want the best in graphic card performance, then here you go! Overclocking headroom is limited but this card already has a factory overclock if you select it (OC Mode) though I was still able to get another 125MHz on the GPU and 475MHz on the mem. Granted with all the current Nvidia cards, overclocking is tied to GPU boost and you are up to the luck of the silicon lottery to what your GPU will top out at as well as the local thermal conditions within your build. I have ROG Strix OC models of the 1080 and 1070 as well so I knew in advanced these cards are larger (longer, wider, deeper) than most others so make sure that your chassis can accommodate it and that you have plenty of good airflow. Remember these (all non blower style cards) exhaust the heat into your chassis so you need proper airflow to get it exhausted. The card itself is quiet, looks good and Thanks Asus - I can easily remove the Nvidia GTX logo (its just a sticker) to make the card even more stealthy in my build. Albeit, that cooler is even larger than my 1080's cooler so anyone in the know will recognize that it is a ti... B&H shipped my card and it was delivered on schedule just as they said it would at check out. It was decently packed for shipping and arrived in excellent condition. I will do business with B&H again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just Plain Rock ! Consider Liquid cooling this card. Air dumps hot air into the case. It is rock solid built and what can I say it just makes gaming so much more fun and In SLI well,,,,,,what can I say I'm lucky.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from For RGB Enthusiasts with ASUS Aura Motherboards Bought this to play Destiny 2 with. Came with Shadows of War at the time (Promo). Runs Great. The RGB isn't just one light. It lights up and everything works! I'll buy another to get steady frames for 4K SLi configs and max settings on games that support SLi.
