A modified upgrade of a popular earlier version from Explore Scientific, the EXOS-2GT PMC-Eight Motorized EQ GoTo Mount and Tripod provides users with a precision platform built to support and move refractor optical tube assemblies (OTAs) of up to 152mm (6") aperture and reflectors of up to 203mm (8"). The payload capacity for astrophotography is 28 lb plus the included 9.9 lb counterweight. For visual use, the payload capacity is 40 lb plus the counterweight.

Modifications include the use of the PMC-Eight motor drive system, upgraded micro-stepper motors with encoders, installation of a direct-drive connection between the drive shaft and motor, and replacement of the wired control system with a wireless antenna, which allows for remote use from tablets and smartphones running Windows mobile operating systems. These modifications improve tracking precision while reducing system vibration. They provide users with a wireless open-source control system that can be customized to their specific needs and shared with the Explore Scientific community. The brain of the GoTo system is Explore Scientific's ExploreStars app for iOS, Android, and Windows 8.1/10 mobile devices and PCs. The app has a 70,000+ object database and an intuitive user interface.

The mount features a Vixen-style dovetail saddle for compatible OTAs, and has an integrated "bull's eye" bubble level to assist in leveling the mount during setup. To make initial alignment faster and easier, Explore Scientific includes an illuminated polar axis scope for use in the Northern Hemisphere.

The tripod is built with large 2"-diameter stainless steel legs and tight tolerances to reduce vibration for clearer viewing. A center stabilizer bar pulls the accessory tray up to lock the legs in place, adding further rigidity and vibration reduction. It is adjustable from 26.8 to 42.5" to accommodate a wide range of users, and it features large thumbscrews for tool-free adjustment in the field. An adjustable tray is also included with the tripod to keep eyepieces, flashlights, and other accessories safe and at the ready.

Excellent mount

I wasn't expecting to be receiving such a high quality mount with serious capabilities. This mount utilizes the PMC-Eight system which is open source with amazing possibilities. You can use it right out of the box, connect wirelessly to the mount and you are ready to go or you can delve right in to astrophotography. The 26# limit is more of a suggestion, I feel, as I've run with 32.8# with no problems. The mount is so light, I couldn't believe it. This is the future.

Great mount, Great!

I have had this mount for a couple years now and it was my first equatorial. The software it comes with will help get a new person acquainted with the basics of controlling a motorized mount. The wifi operation requires you to connect your device (tablet or computer) using the devices wifi so you must have a wired internet connection (pc) or cellular (tablet) if you want to retain internet access while controlling the mount. The ES app is super handy for getting a feel for astro observing. The wifi connection takes the cabling headaches out of using it for basic observing. simply do a alignment, following the directions on the app, and then it will point at any trackable object you want and keep it in the field of view. When you have seen enough and are ready to move on to this mounts true purpose you scrap the app it comes with and the wifi connection for a serial-usb wired connection and open it up to any planetarium software of your choosing including stellarium, and continue observing or take the foray into astrophotography. This mount will do it all.

Great but not Great

This thing is definitely well built and sturdy! However, if your a newb this might not be for you. You have to be a computer engineer to understand how the PMC-EIGHT works. It works with wifi but not all the time, well most of the time it doesn't. You cannot use the internet nor any other wifi while connected, well maybe just me cuz I've heard others can, idk! I am so frustrated with this thing. Speaking with Explore Scientific customer service they don't even use the software that they tell you to use, this doesn't instill confidence. You don't use customer service from ES to ask questions you use this random forum which is a nightmare to navigate. Simply it feels like I've been left behind because I didn't come in already knowing what to do! Kinda sad about that. I'm lost. Trying to do astrophotography (I know I should do visual for a year but I'm so excited). The RS-232 style connectors are so dated. Should have been usb or something this century. Wireless is only way to connect cuz they don't supply a USB to RS-232 for direct connect. It would be nice to use Stellarium with this to SEE where I'm going, instead of just knowing. But again I'm not an engineer! It's enough complexity to make me not want to use it. Stinks, because I waited over a year since I bought it during covid. Backordered. Not giving up though!

Can you plug an ac adapter into it? So you don’t have to use batteries.
Asked by: Ken
My mount came with a 12 volt ac adapter( 120v to 12 volt transformer) I’m not sure who answered question below but my mount did not come with a mobile battery pack using d cells. I use a Mobile 12 volt car battery jump pack with mine. It’s not ideal as I plug my supplied with mount 120v to 12 volt ac adapter into it for remote operations. Ideally it would be nice to have a 12 volt dc adapter for the mount. They should have supplied that adapter in addition to the ac adapter.
