Sony GP-X1EM Reviews

Good Deal

I went to the Sony system now that I am up in age and wanted a lighter system. My Sony was a just to small for my hand. This was a perfect fit at a good cost and really doesn't add significant weight.

A good add on

A good add on to the a7ii, especially if you have larger hands. Easy to install, however, it will completely cover the battery door. And like the local camera store and I agreed, needed but overpriced.

Very solid.

This is a very well-made and well thought out piece of kit. While it is fairly expensive it is very nicely designed and will no doubt outlast the camera. If you just loosen it slightly it can raise off its locking pins and let you access the battery without taking it off altogether which is a great convenience. It feels solid as a rock and makes the camera a pleasure to hold and work with.

Nice feeling grip, though a little pricy...

Now that I have it, I haven’t wanted to take it off — and, it seems to be worth the price, to gain a better, solid, more comfortable hold. I have enjoyed the shooting experience since getting it. It fits nicely with my a9, and a7RIII. I may have gone with a third party version, although, they didn’t seem to offer a quick thumb screw lever, as this model does — since swapping batteries generally needs to be done, easily, quickly.

Excellent quality

This grip extension is excellent quality and makes gripping much more comfortable. I rate it at 3 stars due to the inconvenience I ran into with my sling strap not being able to screw into the bottom. I had to go with all new Peake strap and use the regular strap connections

A good pinky fix

This grip offers a good pinky fix but a little too pricey!

Worst thing ever sold by Sony?

I have been using a Sony A7Rii with an L-bracket for about 5 years. I just bought an A7Riii for its improved ergonomics, battery, and dual cards. Since I have big hands, I wanted to try the Sony grip extension. It is simply an awful design. It sits on the righthand side of the camera so the camera cannot sit flat. It covers the battery compartment so must be removed to change batteries. It uses the tripod screw mount and has no way to attach a quick release or ARCA-Swiss mounting plate. It is over $120 for a small piece of metal. Overall, it is worthless and can be replaced by a generic L-bracket for less than half the cost and solves all of the issues mentioned.

Just enough

I purchased this for my Sony A7R3. It's perfect for that little bit of extra grip.

I'm not positive about my answer, but I don't believe it is. It is designed for the a7 series and the a9 which are all larger than the 6400.

There are two little "pins" on the grip extension that are supposed to fit into the camera and there's only one receiving hole on my a9 for one of the pins. The other pin which has no hole to fit into seems to prevent a flush fit and I notice a small gap between the grip extension and the camera. Anyone else notice this? Unless I tighten it really tight it can slip a little.

The mounting screw is screwed into the tripod mount on the bottom of the camera, with the grip part of the extension under the grip of the camera.

question

Does it fit the A7M3?
Asked by: Lloyd S.
Yes it works and if you use peak design there is a way to rig it to work with tripod plate. It does help out when using heavier lenses to have pinky grip. Its all metal, super light too.
