Onkyo TX-8270 overview

  • 1Description

Enjoy stereo sound and network connectivity with the Onkyo TX-8270 Stereo Network A/V Receiver. It features a discrete amp configuration that provides up to 100W per channel at 8 Ohms. The four HDMI inputs and single HDMI output support 4K, HDR, and 3D pass-through for connecting a variety of A/V equipment. Its HDMI output also supports ARC for display-based sound, such as from your display's built-in apps.

The TX-8270 also features built-in Wi-Fi and Apple AirPlay connectivity for wireless streaming. Furthermore, the receiver can be controlled wirelessly from your compatible smart device with the Onkyo Controller app. Its front-panel USB port allows direct device connectivity for playback of your digitally stored multimedia files.

Note: Access to certain Internet-based content may require a subscription to a service.

Drive Big Speakers
This amp system is designed to generate a high current. Its circuitry features discrete output transistors for low distortion. The high current helps ensure accurate control. Non-phase-shift circuitry, meanwhile, is designed to focus the audio image and reproduce a wide frequency bandwidth to maximize Hi-Res Audio and vinyl playback.
Smooth Analog Signal
Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry (VLSC) is fashioned to reassemble the audio signal to its original form following processing. Unlike conventional filters, VLSC removes pulse noise generated in D/A conversion, allowing the sound wave to be reproduced with enhanced fidelity for a smooth analog signal.
Zone 2
A dedicated DAC for NET/USB audio distribution and Zone 2 pre-outs send any audio (even streamed audio) to a second room equipped with a power amp and a pair of speakers. Play the same source in both rooms or a different source in Zone 2.
A Stereo Receiver that Connects Everything
The TX-8270 is equipped with connections allowing it to serve as an amp for TV entertainment. Joining analog, digital, phono, and USB inputs are HDMI terminals (connect an Apple TV or similar) together with a network audio platform.
Supports 4K HDR and BT.2020 Video Pass-Through
Connect up to four media players to the receiver's HDCP 2.2-compliant HDMI inputs. The terminals support pass-through of 4K/60 Hz video, 4K HDR in HDR10 or Dolby Vision formats, as well as BT.2020 4K video standard. Enjoy 4K Ultra HD content untouched from source to screen.
Dual-Band Wi-Fi, AirPlay, and Spotify Connect
A selectable 5 GHz Wi-Fi channel helps assure stable connectivity in areas with traffic congestion on the 2.4 GHz band. Enjoy smooth streaming over AirPlay, the Spotify Connect app, and other network audio services.
Internet Radio, Streaming Services, and FM/AM Radio
TIDAL, Deezer, TuneIn, and Pandora are built into the GUI, making it easy to select from a range of music and radio programs. FM/AM radio tuners are also included with 40 station presets. Get instant access to four of your favorite stations via memory preset buttons on the front panel.
Digital-to-Analog Processing
The AK4438 384 kHz/32-bit digital-to-analog converter from AKM features low-distortion technologies suited to DSD 5.6 MHz (after PCM conversion) and PCM signals up to 192 kHz/24-bit (except over WLAN or USB). Together with VLSC filtering circuitry, which is designed to eliminate ultra-high-frequency pulse noise, playback is clear.
Onkyo Controller App for Network Audio
The Onkyo Controller app collects streaming services and network-attached audio into an interface that's designed to be intuitive. Cue and control music and distribute it around the home from one app.
Stream with Chromecast built-in with a Future Firmware Update
Stream any music from your smartphone, laptop, or computer to the TX-8270 with ease. Control playback with Chromecast-enabled apps you know and love from your iPhone, iPad, Android phone or tablet, Mac or Windows laptop, or Chromebook. Chromecast built-in is scheduled to be made available with a future firmware update.
Stream Anything with DTS Play-Fi with a Future Firmware Update
DTS Play-Fi is a wireless protocol that works with nearly any audio app on mobile devices and computers. Flick whatever's playing to the receiver, even different sources to different components at the same time. DTS Play-Fi is scheduled to be made available with a future firmware update.
FireConnect Wireless Multi-Room Audio with Future Firmware Update
FireConnect, powered by Blackfire, is designed to mirror network audio sources and any external analog source playing through the receiver – from streaming audio to vinyl – on optional wireless speakers. Playback control across the home is via the Onkyo Controller app. FireConnect is scheduled to be made available with a future firmware update.

    Onkyo TX-8270 reviews

TX-8270 Stereo Network A/V Receiver is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tower of 2-channel Power Purchased this new receiver the beginning of May. I was already anxiously awaiting for it to make its debut since I was in the market for a new 100 watt unit and thought that I'd have to settle for a home theater-type receiver. Since I'm not really into a home theater use for one of these, just music, this receiver is astounding for the way it stands out in pure sound quality and giving the extra wattage than the previous Onkyo 2-channel models. I was not disappointed with this and you won't be either with all the advantages it has to offer the serious listener. Well worth the money for a 2-channel stereo receiver.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Greatest! ONKYO TX-8270 The new ONKYO TX-8270 stereo network A/V receiver is a very good product. It is beautifully made. The sound quality is outstanding. The 100 watts per channel output is a big improvement over the TX-8160 and the discontinued TX-8050, which both featured only 80 watts per channel. Also, the new TX-8270 does not have the annoying click when it is powered on or off. The new Dynamic Audio Amplification is an improvement over the older WRAT system in my opinion. I'm a happy customer. You should be too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Two-Channel Receiver So far this receiver is everything I want in a two-channel set-up. The sound is outstanding. Set-up was very easy on-screen (HDTV) with HDMI inputs and speakers - and the speaker terminals accepted banana plugs, which was nice. No problems with HDMI switching, and bluetooth and WiFi work perfectly. 100 watts per channel (8 ohms) delivers a serious punch, so make sure you have speakers that can handle that power output. Only thing for me is the FM antenna does not pick up every station in New York clearly, but that is a result of location.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Versatility! I am, at heart an audiophile. In my secondary system I had a Pioneer Elite SX-N30 Network Stereo Receiver. Unfortunately, last October 9, 2017, my home burned to the ground during the Tubbs Wildfire in Santa Rosa, CA. I was starving for music, and after a bit of research, I settled upon this Onkyo receiver. I am not at all disappointed. When my home burned, I was in the UK. I had taken with me 10 flash drives of music, it is all that survives a 5,000 LP collection. With this Onkyo I am able to play these files via the USB port. It will even play DSD files and anything u to 192 Kz. Highly recommended!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best of both worlds....Old school meets modern tech! I bought this stereo receiver to replace a surroundsound system that I installed several years ago. I simply don’t tend to watch that many movies with 5.1 surround. But I want to the option to watch video through my stereo just in case. This receiver as four HDMI inputs so you can have booming stereo for your DVD’s etc....or just pass through to the TV. I am a music guy so good all fashioned stero is for me. Old school BASS, TREBLE and BANCE knobs. But it also has all the modern technology… Built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi that sounds absolutely terrific. All of this can be controlled on a smart phone or iPad. Even the bass and treble can be adjusted from smart device. So my itiunes music on my ipad is converted by a very good DAC in the receiver to analog sound. My Klipsch reference speakers sound as good as ever. Good old fashioned stereo!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Solid AMP, but bad digital operations The sound is very good, rivaling receivers costing a couple of thousands, however, the digital part of it is pretty bad. Firstly, the supported storage size of the USB drive is fairly small. Up to 32GB, I believe. Right now, we can easily have a MP3 collection of hundread of GB, which this unit is not able to support. Secondly, the HDMI connection is sometime broken. My DVD player is connected to this unit via HDMI cable. When playing CD, sometimes the sound just chokes for a few seconds. I originally thought it might be DVD player's problem, but if I used a different receiver (YAMAHA), there is no such issue at all. Thirdly, the bluetooth connection can broken from time to time. Sometimes it may not connect, or no sound despite it is connected. I had to power-cycle the receiver to make it work. Too bad these issues ruin an otherwise excellent receiver.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does Everything I Need At An Affordable Price! Having lost everything, save a few flash drives, when my home burned to the ground last October in a Wildfire in Santa Rosa, I was desperate to hear some music. I love the fact I can play music from any source, flash drive, Bluetooth, and laptop via HDMI. Highly recommended!
