Sound Devices MX-LMOUNT Reviews
Basically a backup for my kit
It works as advertised. My SONY and Sound devices batteries slip-in and out with no issues. I do hot swapping and try not to take the sled off.
Sound Devices is one of the very best companies
I had one of these and a logic chip in it failed so I bought another. Took a little bit of time to figure out the failure but Sound Devices tech support is second to none and provided a lot of help in figure out the problem. I do not blame them, I use this device almost every day, not surprised this clip on, clip off all the time thing failed. I bough 2 just in case that happens again. The Mix Pre6II that this powers is one of my all time favorite devices.
Battery Sled for MixPre-3
Adds plenty of power for my MixPre-3 II - great addition.
Works good
Fits good with the Orca 280 bag and the MixPre 10 II. Glad I tried this over more expensive options to power it.
Wish I'd just returned it
I like the functionality, but this started out VERY tight and difficult to remove (I'm always worried about damaging my MixPre 6 when I remove it). Now, after limited use, it occasionally loosens up enough to lose the electrical connection, but it is still very difficult to remove. It's an expensive piece of plastic that seems out of place on the MixPre, which is a really well made device.
Fills the Need
Power for the Mixpre series seems to have been an afterthought, entailing uncomfortable compromises. This sled, perhaps unavoidably, adds a lot of thickness to the Mixpre. Loaded batteries stick up above and below the Mixpre itself, and with two batteries loaded the fit in a slim bag (the Orca OR-270 for example) is uncomfortably tight. Nevertheless the MX-LMount is serviceable, just not elegant.
Worked great - ONE TIME
It appears the contact pins on this mount are slightly larger than spec. I have ruined two Anton Bauer NP-F967 batteries when the sockets got stuck on the prongs and tore free from the batteries. (see attached photos) Looks like I'll be sticking to the AA sled from now on because I'm not about to waste any more L-series batteries trying to break this sled in.
Be Ware, It Destroys Your Batteries
I was wondering if I were the only one having an issue with this device destroying my batteries until I read another review by someone having the same problem. First off, this is EXTREMELY overpriced for the material that it is made of and for its functionality. I thought that the cost would be worth the convenience of long recording times, however, it has destroyed nearly every battery that I've used on it. The connecting pins are too large, which causes the battery connectors to rip off when taking the batteries off. It's also a bit challenging to remove from the device and it covers up the recorder's SD Card slot, so if you are only using SD Cards and not the USB slot, and you need to replace the SD Card, you will be forced to remove the batteries and the sled to do so. The two added batteries do make it a bit bulkier, but, that's not a major issue for me. I've read that a USB C battery pack will work with this. I'm going to try that and forgo using this. I wish I could return it for a refund.
