    8TB G-DRIVE USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C External Hard Drive is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from First Impressions I just got my 8Tb G-Drive USB-C, I know it's slow, after all it's a mechanical 5400 rpm 180Mbs 3.5" hard drive and the main use of it will be to backup/store files while I'll have the ones I'm working on in the internal HD. The reason I bought this one it's because I loved the design and I thought it would look great next to my MacBook Pro, but it's quite noisy and I can feel its vibrations on my desk... so yes, it's not a good idea to put the G-Drive on top of your working desk. I also have an old 4Tb Seagate external 3.5" HD and it isn't as noisy or vibrates as much as the expensive G-Drive.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from disappointing drive I've owned this drive for about 9 months and using it with Windows 10. When it operates, it makes horrible grinding noises like a dog chewing a rock. It is slow as molasses and it powers down after a while and takes about a minute to come back out of sleep mode. (These is no way to turn off the sleep mode that I can find or research.) I bought it for photos and video but it is so slow in writing and reading (with USB 3.0) that it is only good for archiving/backup. Still, even with that, I am nervous using it because of the terrible sound which it makes. I would have returned it immediately but I let it sit around for a month or two before starting to use it. So, I'm stuck. I definitely would not recommend this drive for any reason whatsoever. I do not own any other drives by the company. ( I own countless WesternDigital,Seagate,Toshiba and other drives over many many years of storage upgrades.) I bought this because of the 8TB. It does come in a nice sturdy and strong aluminum case with a big flashing "G" logo on the front for what that's worth. It has a separate power supply and USB3 cable. It can not be oriented it any other direction except flat as pictured. It has little rubber feet on the bottom and would not balance properly on its side.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far very quiet back up drive for my Mac. This drive offers a lot of archival space for my media and data. It is quiet and trust worthy so far. I've only had this drive for a few weeks. It is big enough at 8 TB to have two 4TB partitions. I have two 4TB portable drives as clones for each partition. This then keeps 2 copies of my stuff.
