Rotolight Aeos Overview

Small enough for on-camera use, this AEOS Location LED Light from Rotolight measures 11.6" diameter and has a profile of just 0.78", so it can be used in very tight spaces. Due to cool-running LEDs, it can be used very close to the talent. The AEOS has an impressive color temperature control range, from a warm 3150 to a cool 6300K, to match other fixtures or ambient light conditions. It's also fully dimmableand both of these functions can be controlled on the unit or remotely via DMX. The light output is rated 96 CRI and 91 TLCI, indicating high color fidelity. The AEOS runs on the included universal AC adapter or on optional batteries via the AEOS's V-mount battery holder.

The AEOS has High-Speed Sync Flash Mode (HSS) that flashes at 250 to 500% of the maximum continuous light level. And since it has an integrated Elinchrom Skyport HSS Flash receiver, the separate purchase of a Rotolight EL-Skyport Transmitter Plus HS will allow you to wirelessly trigger the flash function and even control the color temperature of the flash output.

Other features such as CineSFX provide several effects such as fire or lightning to create a sense of excitement or reality on set. True Aperture Dimming actually calculates the correct f-stop at a given distance, while Designer Fade supports custom up or down fades for interviews and video. The AEOS comes with a ball head that allows 360° rotation and 200° of tilt, while the included 4-filter kit allows you to diffuse or tweak the color using the kit's filter holder.

Built-In Elinchrom Skyport HSS Flash Receiver
The AEOS has an integrated Elinchrom Skyport Receiver for wireless triggering of the flash function and support of High Speed Sync with cameras that have that function. The separate purchase of a Rotolight EL-Skyport Transmitter Plus HS compatible with your camera brand is necessary to take advantage of this feature. The transmitter uses a 2.4 GHz radio system with a range of up to 656' outdoors and 196' indoors. This system offers access to 20 channels and four groups and can be used to remotely adjust brightness settings and color temperature. Remote access to CineSFX modes is available as well, and it can sync with other devices thanks to the inclusion of a 2.5mm sync port. Additionally, it runs on two AA batteries and has a mini-USB port for firmware updates.
High-Speed Sync Flash (HSS)
Provides a powerful HSS flash mode with zero recycle time at 250-500% of the maximum continuous light output for traditional photographic workflows, enabling you to freeze action. This feature eliminates the need for users shooting both stills and video to buy a strobe, as it provides an all-in-one solution.

AccuColour
AccuColour LED phosphor technology ensures the AEOS delivers exceptional color rendering (CRI: 96+, TLCI: 91), eliminating the need to spend time and money correcting color and skin tones in post-production.

What is the continuous output of the Aeos at distances 5-6' and 10'?

Unfortunately, Rotolight only lists the flash output at 3ft, 6ft, 9ft, 12ft, and 15ft, listing the f-stop in continuous mode, f-stop in flash mode, and Guide Number at varying ISO settings (the link to this chart is listed below). However, they only state the Lux output measured at 3 feet, which is listed as 5750 lux @ 3ft. If you need the Lux output for the other distances, you would have to contact Rotolight directly with your inquiry by e-mailing them at [email protected] to see if they have this information available.http://bit.ly/2oIamrw

What would be the maximum shutter speed when shooting in Hypersync with Sony and Canon ?

It would depend on the maximum mechanical shutter speed of your camera. While the Rotolight does not use HyperSync technology (which is only used by PocketWizard's FlexTT5/FlexTT6 and MiniTT1 radio remotes), it is compatible with High Speed Sync (HSS) when using a camera and radio transmitter/receiver that is also High Speed Sync-compatible. Rotolight lists on page 10 of the Rotolight AEOS instruction manual that they recommend HSS triggers such as the Cactus VI II, the PocketWizard FlexTT5 and FlexTT6, both which have models compatible with Canon cameras, and the Phottix ODIN II, which has models compatible for both Canon and Sony cameras. With these radio triggers and their compatible receivers/transceivers, you would be able to shoot to the camera's maximum mechanical shutter speed, which on most higher-end cameras is 1/8000th of a second.

Can the SWIT 98WH battery works well with Rotolight AEOS without compromising any of the functionalities?

As long as the battery is the same strength as a battery that came with your Rotolight AEOS. But I’d much rather get my battery from Rotolight company. Just to make sure I have no problems.

Not at this moment, but it should be soon (we hope). In a Facebook post on March 6, 2017 on Elinchrom LTD's Facebook page, Elinchrom stated that other Skyport Plus HS transmitters were being evaluated for future release, and that the next supported brand would be Fuji. This was also stated in Rotolight's press release from August 31, 2017 when they announced the Skyport 2.4Ghz receiver was built into the Rotolight NEO 2, in which (in reply to a comment about the new Rotolight HSS Transmitter) they stated it is avaialble on launch for Canon, Nikon Sony, Olympus and Panasonic systems (with Fuji to follow next year), and is compatible with all other Elinchrom Skyport devices. As such, we expect a Rotolight Skyport Plus HS Transmitter for Fujifilm Cameras to be released sometime this year, but at this time, there has been no specific announcement or release date for the Skyport Plus HS Transmitter for Fujifilm.

What battery besides the Rotolight brand would ...

What battery besides the Rotolight brand would work with the AEOS? Brand, size, power etc? And will using a brand other than Rotolight void the warranty? I'm new to V mount so not sure. Thank you...

Any V mount battery would work but keep note that some of the off brand vmount batteries have trouble with the flash function of the lights as this is an "overcharge" of the leds some other brand vmount batteries will trip an internal breaker and shut themselves down.
