Small enough for on-camera use, this AEOS Location LED Light from Rotolight measures 11.6" diameter and has a profile of just 0.78", so it can be used in very tight spaces. Due to cool-running LEDs, it can be used very close to the talent. The AEOS has an impressive color temperature control range, from a warm 3150 to a cool 6300K, to match other fixtures or ambient light conditions. It's also fully dimmableand both of these functions can be controlled on the unit or remotely via DMX. The light output is rated 96 CRI and 91 TLCI, indicating high color fidelity. The AEOS runs on the included universal AC adapter or on optional batteries via the AEOS's V-mount battery holder.

The AEOS has High-Speed Sync Flash Mode (HSS) that flashes at 250 to 500% of the maximum continuous light level. And since it has an integrated Elinchrom Skyport HSS Flash receiver, the separate purchase of a Rotolight EL-Skyport Transmitter Plus HS will allow you to wirelessly trigger the flash function and even control the color temperature of the flash output.

Other features such as CineSFX provide several effects such as fire or lightning to create a sense of excitement or reality on set. True Aperture Dimming actually calculates the correct f-stop at a given distance, while Designer Fade supports custom up or down fades for interviews and video. The AEOS comes with a ball head that allows 360° rotation and 200° of tilt, while the included 4-filter kit allows you to diffuse or tweak the color using the kit's filter holder.

Built-In Elinchrom Skyport HSS Flash Receiver

The AEOS has an integrated Elinchrom Skyport Receiver for wireless triggering of the flash function and support of High Speed Sync with cameras that have that function. The separate purchase of a Rotolight EL-Skyport Transmitter Plus HS compatible with your camera brand is necessary to take advantage of this feature. The transmitter uses a 2.4 GHz radio system with a range of up to 656' outdoors and 196' indoors. This system offers access to 20 channels and four groups and can be used to remotely adjust brightness settings and color temperature. Remote access to CineSFX modes is available as well, and it can sync with other devices thanks to the inclusion of a 2.5mm sync port. Additionally, it runs on two AA batteries and has a mini-USB port for firmware updates.

High-Speed Sync Flash (HSS)

Provides a powerful HSS flash mode with zero recycle time at 250-500% of the maximum continuous light output for traditional photographic workflows, enabling you to freeze action. This feature eliminates the need for users shooting both stills and video to buy a strobe, as it provides an all-in-one solution.

Bi-Color

Color temperature variable from 3150 to 6300K or anywhere in between.

CineSFX

Provides a suite of customizable cinematic lighting effects, such as lightning, fire, and TV flicker to enhance your video production.

Designer Fade

Provides custom fade up/down production effects for interviews.

AccuColour

AccuColour LED phosphor technology ensures the AEOS delivers exceptional color rendering (CRI: 96+, TLCI: 91), eliminating the need to spend time and money correcting color and skin tones in post-production.

Control:

Local, DMX, or PC sync (Flash).

Rotolight Aeos Reviews

Beautiful lights & Great Bag. Stands & Ball Heads Useless

Ive used Rotolights in portrait sessions for many years, but never had the pleasure of owning my own. I saw this kit and thought about how dreams do come true and I purchased it. The lighting on Rotos is elegant depending how you use them. In larger studios, I've used up to five of them. My studio space is small, so two should suffice. The lights are powerful and can instantly bring a dark room to light. They act as constant and strobes. What more can you ask for when you change your lighting mood in a split second. The bag is very handy and makes sense. It's large enough for both lights and the barn doors which I purchased separately. The pricing at B&H is the most competitive. (Sorry Adorama, you were double the cost.) The bag is also waterproof and fits cables and ball heads. LIGHT STANDS - Let's talk accessories now. Roto put all their money in the lights, NOT the accessories. This was just an opportunity for them to add their logo onto something else. The stands didn't last half an hour. Literally, one broke immediately! So needless to say, I wasn't going to open the other one and risk breaking the lights when they come crashing down, because the stands simply don't work. The lights are too too heavy for the stands. They actually held up better on dare I say Amazon Basic light stands! Granted, I won't use my lights on those, but it was sad that Amazon stands were better. I wound up going to Milford Camera, sorry B&H the next day and purchased Pro Master video stands with an air compression release feature. These stands, $70 each are extremely stable and worth the additional cash for the lights. BALL HEADS - Simply put- they don't hold the light no matter how tight you adjust them. If you like floppy lighting, these are your ball heads. Haha. Truth be told the lights are more stable direct on stands and the barn doors direct light beautifully. BARN DOORS - They are great and well built. Buy them at B&H. BATTERY - Should you decide on batteries, there is a great two pack with dual charger available on B&H for about $549 all in. Use 98W V batteries for these lights. The prices have stabilized over the years, so this is a good buy. Enjoy the lights and have fun creating!!!

Confidence in a bag

Always loved Rotolights but wow this kit is awesome! I brought the kit to a video shoot as a backup. Then my key light went out. Pulled out the AEOS light and had it setup and ready to go in under 10min! Saved the day. In actuality the lighting was great because I could change the temp and that added a special touch that the client really liked. I will never be without this kit. If your thinking about it definitely do some more research and maybe my review with your research you'll make this a great investment.

Just tested with my dog as the first portrait...loved the results. Great packaging, strong lights that are easy to use and love the color temperature range. The only reason why I'm knocking off a star is because I have to buy barn doors to add their soft box and both are quite expensive when compared to the cost of the lights, spending about half for the doors/box when compared to the lights themselves.

Great purchase.

Bought the kit mostly for the lights. They did not disappoint.

Fantastic lights, great delivery. The one thing I would suggest is perhaps set up the plugs to suit destination. NZ and Australia have a three pin plug set up, which is different to both UK and USA. No biggie, just a suggestion. Might need one more......oh and thanks Jason Lanier.

Perfect for our location shoot

I took six of these bi-color Rotolight units, with a batch of v-mount batteries for a night time shoot on a rocky beach. They were easy to tuck out of sight. Ran for hours on 150 Wh batts, and gave us the perfect low intensity sources to fill a complex background.

So far these lights have done the trick for me. Not as bright as I expected but still able to get the job done. This kit does not come with batteries or chargers. The stands need a bit of fidgeting and could be a bit sturdier but overall this is a great kit!

question

What is the continuous output of the Aeos at distances 5-6' and 10'?
Asked by: Jeff
Unfortunately, Rotolight only lists the flash output at 3ft, 6ft, 9ft, 12ft, and 15ft, listing the f-stop in continuous mode, f-stop in flash mode, and Guide Number at varying ISO settings (the link to this chart is listed below). However, they only state the Lux output measured at 3 feet, which is listed as 5750 lux @ 3ft. If you need the Lux output for the other distances, you would have to contact Rotolight directly with your inquiry by e-mailing them at [email protected] to see if they have this information available.http://bit.ly/2oIamrw

question

What would be the maximum shutter speed when shooting in Hypersync with Sony and Canon ?
Asked by: Timothy Y.
It would depend on the maximum mechanical shutter speed of your camera. While the Rotolight does not use HyperSync technology (which is only used by PocketWizard's FlexTT5/FlexTT6 and MiniTT1 radio remotes), it is compatible with High Speed Sync (HSS) when using a camera and radio transmitter/receiver that is also High Speed Sync-compatible. Rotolight lists on page 10 of the Rotolight AEOS instruction manual that they recommend HSS triggers such as the Cactus VI II, the PocketWizard FlexTT5 and FlexTT6, both which have models compatible with Canon cameras, and the Phottix ODIN II, which has models compatible for both Canon and Sony cameras. With these radio triggers and their compatible receivers/transceivers, you would be able to shoot to the camera's maximum mechanical shutter speed, which on most higher-end cameras is 1/8000th of a second.

Can the SWIT 98WH battery works well with Rotolight AEOS without compromising any of the functionalities?
Asked by: Anoopraj
As long as the battery is the same strength as a battery that came with your Rotolight AEOS. But I’d much rather get my battery from Rotolight company. Just to make sure I have no problems.

question

can rotolight aeos be use in fuji camera for hss? what trigger should be use?
Asked by: mark v.
Not at this moment, but it should be soon (we hope). In a Facebook post on March 6, 2017 on Elinchrom LTD's Facebook page, Elinchrom stated that other Skyport Plus HS transmitters were being evaluated for future release, and that the next supported brand would be Fuji. This was also stated in Rotolight's press release from August 31, 2017 when they announced the Skyport 2.4Ghz receiver was built into the Rotolight NEO 2, in which (in reply to a comment about the new Rotolight HSS Transmitter) they stated it is avaialble on launch for Canon, Nikon Sony, Olympus and Panasonic systems (with Fuji to follow next year), and is compatible with all other Elinchrom Skyport devices. As such, we expect a Rotolight Skyport Plus HS Transmitter for Fujifilm Cameras to be released sometime this year, but at this time, there has been no specific announcement or release date for the Skyport Plus HS Transmitter for Fujifilm.

What battery besides the Rotolight brand would work with the AEOS? Brand, size, power etc? And will using a brand other than Rotolight void the warranty? I'm new to V mount so not sure. Thank you...
Asked by: Michael
Any V mount battery would work but keep note that some of the off brand vmount batteries have trouble with the flash function of the lights as this is an "overcharge" of the leds some other brand vmount batteries will trip an internal breaker and shut themselves down.
