SLR Magic SLRAC-40133 overview

  • 1Description

The SLR Magic Anamorphot-40 1.33x Anamorphic Adapter enables you to capture footage with a 2.35:1 aspect ratio on your camera with a 16:9 sensor. This results in an image that out of the camera will look distorted, as if your subjects were stretched taller and thinner than normal. This is easily corrected in post with virtually any modern NLE, creating an image suitable for viewing on wide-screen. The SLR Magic Anamorphot-40 1.33x works with lenses that have a front element physically no larger than 40mm in diameter. For full-frame sensors, SLR Magic recommends that the Anamorphot-40 1.33x be used with 40mm or longer focal length lenses; it is compatible with select wider lenses when using S35 and Micro Four Thirds sensors.

The Anamorphot-40 features adjustable focus marked normal and near. The near adjustment allows you to focus on subjects two feet away; setting the adapter to normal allows you to focus on subjects from three feet to infinity. The Anamorphot-40 mounts to lenses with a non-rotating front and a 52mm front filter thread. This adapter is compatible with full-frame and APS-C camera sensors, and with both automatic and manual focus lenses.

    SLR Magic SLRAC-40133 reviews

Anamorphot-40 1.33x Anamorphic Adapter (Compact) is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from a toy than a tool good things: - super light compared to other vintage ones. - affordable - great build quality. - works good with my Loxia 50mm lens, even using aperture 2.0, you still could focus if you precisely focus the adapter also. - x1.33 mentioned is much useful than x2 on DSLR. bad things: - no light flare. - no noticeable oval bokeh. - not 1.33 at all. when focus@1m, close to 1.22, focus@2m, close to 1.25. infinity maybe 1.33, I didn't try. no regret, this is just a toy not a tool, a toy means you can't bring it to work, you play with it sometimes, then all the other times, it just lies in your drawer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Anamorphic on the super cheap Shooting on a Sony A7Rii with FF (for full frame and s35 crop) and speedbooster Nikon converters. Have had it for a day and not done any major testing so these are v early impressions. Pros: - Relatively, super cheap! - Works well with my nikon 50mm and 100mm in full frame and s35, and my 24mm in s35, as well as a Sigma 30mm E-mount. - Don't have to worry about focusing the anamorphic and the regular lens. Set it to Near or Normal and then you can even use lens AF. V nice. No need for a rangefinder attachment. If you try to rack from infinity to 2 feet, though, you might have to try and also switch the anamorphot to Near in the process. - I'm a fan of the blue-ish flares that SLR Magic's lenses give off. Some people aren't. - Light enough that I'm not terribly worried about having to add extra lens support to a rig. Can hand-hold this easily. - The rear filter ring used to tighten the anamorphot to the taking lens is a nifty way to mount it. I like it better than previous screw mount options. Cons: - Maybe it's just my copy, but it looks like dead centre of anything i shoot is hard to get nice and sharp. Anything just a bit off to the side of centre, though, is nice and crispy. - Not getting that classic oval bokeh. A tough proposition on a 1.33 adaptor, but still.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Owning Anamorphic Texture for Price of Rental I couldn't be more excited about this purchase. Already shot with it a number of times and it's paying for itself quickly. I love the anamorphic look but it's obviously a very expensive look to be into. Been using this with my Panasonic GH5 and 25mm 1.7 and loving the results. Elevates the aesthetic of everything I'm working on. Sharp in the right places. Flarey and dirty in the right places too.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Useless Ordered this adapter just 2 workdays ago and it was shipped crazy fast to switzerland. Even faster than the swiss post sends letters within Switzerland! Nice! But now the adapter. Unpacked this item, build quality is very good. Everything from glas and metal. The focus ring is smooth and works perfect. Then i screwed it on my Canon 28mm f1.8 (with C100mkII Body) and an adapter ring between (58-52mm). Works also perfect. I shot some scenes in lowlight. Autofocus of the C100 was also ok. Afterwards i reviewed the material in Premiere and i was very disappointed. First the pixel ratio of 1.33 sqeezes the frame too much, so it is NOT a 1.33 ratio, 1.20 seems to be too less. So its more a 1.25. But that is not possible to choose. Second there were no flares at all. Nothing. But to be honest, thats ok for me. I do not want to shoot anamorphic because of the flares, i want to shoot anamorphic because of the oval bokeh and the horizontal squeeze of the background in relation to the foreground. But ... there was no oval bokeh at all. So the adapter is totally senseless because it just makes the view angel a bit wider, but even not in the ratio of 1.33! I hope i can send this thing back to get refund.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing! Best Anamorphic on budget! Very recommended Got the lens in 2 shipping days to Israel from US. The footage with the adapter is amazing on my GH5 and SAMYANG lenses. Did a test and short film already on it. you can find it here

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Needs the right taking lens I personally love the blue flares on this one, I've combined it with a Sigma 30mm 1.4 and do need to stop down a bit to get full sharpness, and its also not the ideal taking lens, a pancake Canon 40mm or Panasonic 20mm seems to be a better combo but I've adapted my Sigma with the Vidatlantic anamorphic iris to get the bokeh I want
