The L-Plate Set for Sony Alpha a9 and a7R III from Really Right Stuff is a modular design composed of an Arca-type compatible base plate and L-component that facilitate easier, more stable switching between horizontal and vertical shooting orientations when working on top of a tripod.

The CNC machined 6061-T6 aluminum L-plate set maintains complete access to the battery door without obstructing the tilting LCD monitor of the camera. Plus, both parts can be separated slightly, and retightened with a hex key if more room is needed for your tethering or cable release.

The L-plate set has been type II black anodized, which makes it resistant to scuffs and scratches. Furthermore, the base plate has laser-engraved center marks on the back to align it on a tripod head.

L-Plate Set for Sony Alpha a9 and a7R III is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 37.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Solid construction but questionable battery door weather sealing Like all RRS products the build quality & finish is solid. I’m sure this bracket will outlast my camera. The bracket also feels pretty comfortable in the hand as it provides a spot for your pink to grasp/rest on. The issue I have with the bracket was the moving of the battery door from the camera to the bracket itself. Not sure why they had to do this; I had a L bracket on my A7Rii that had an opening that was wide enough to allow the battery door to remain on the camera. I’m just not sure about the integrity of the seal on the bracket; there is rubber near on the bracket near the door but I feel like a little vibration could allow moisture to seep into the battery compartment and compromise the camera. I’m going to risk it for now but will probably switch when new brackets come out.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Solid and well made, but gasket was problematic I love the design and build quality of this bracket. Initially, I was skeptical about moving the battery door, but the switch was quite easy and well described, and the door itself works well. However, after 3 weeks, I started having difficulty removing the battery and found the the foam rubber gasket around the battery compartment had begun to squish into the interior. After re positioning a few times, I finally cut the section out because it just wouldn't stay in place. I feel a better gasket solution is required... the price certainly warrants that. I would rate a 5 otherwise.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Annoying No rating and this is not made for my A7RIII, The Hex range is inside so you cannot remove it. Its like leaving your car key inside your house and therefore you cannot turn the ignition on. You cannot replace the battery without removing the L plate because the battery door is blocked. Last weekend, I passed by Boston to take photos only to find out that my battery power was low. I wanted to replace it but my hex range was not available. RRS should re-do this because it is poorly designed. DO NOT BUY IT. sorry. I will return this in a few days once I received the KIRK L plate that I ordered also from B&H

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Fit The Really Right Stuff L brackets for the Sony A9 and Sony A7r III camera bodies are well designed and built and they are a perfect fit for these cameras. The battery cover from the camera must be removed and placed on the L bracket so that the battery compartment can by accessed without taking the L bracket off the camera. The bracket is is also made to be adjusted so the external ports for sound, USB, trigger cables, etc. can be attached while the bracket is attached to the camera. It also comes with a hex key which is magnetized. It slips into the back of the L bracket and is always available with the camera. No more fumbling through pockets or camera bag to find a hex key when one is needed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect solution I only use Really Right Stuff on my gear, as they always fit perfectly with no issues or “they should of’s”. Yes they are more expensive than other manufacturers, but at the end of the day, after spending over $8500 on a Sony a9 and A7riii bodies alone, it is a small amount of the total expense. I have the bigger L-plate for the battery pack/A-9 combo, and these are interchange between both bodies. Makes it a simple solution if you want to go large or small on a setup. If you do panoramic photography, there markings make it fast and easy to find the nodal points with RRS panorama plates as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks good This is my 2nd bracket. First was purchased for my Canon 5dM4 and I like the quality. I also purchased the a7riii so it was determined I would order the RRS bracket for my Gitzo. There are several reviewers that discuss the battery door removal and re-install to the bracket. This migration provides users an option to change out the battery. I would not know the performance of weather sealingI only use the bracket when I know its going to be needed on a tripod so having to remove the bracket to get to the battery is not an issue, especially since battery life has been improved on the a7riii.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice product Just got a Sony A7RIII from B&H and needed to update my L bracket. I opted to purchase the RRS one even though very pricey. It fit the camera very well. It added additional "holding area" and is very easy to use with the Sirui Arca-Swiss ballhead. I keep on the camera all the time unless I am intending to primarily handhold when I add the Sony vertical grip. There have been complaints about the need to remove the battery door but I don't mind that as I have to do that anyway when I switch to the handgrip. So, I purchased an additional door and one is stored on the vertical grip and one on the RRS L-bracket. So, for me that fact that I had to remove the battery door to use the L-bracket is not a big deal and indeed reduces the need to remove and replace the door. I believe it is a nicely engineered addition to my equipment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good protection and Mounting Flexibility I was pleased with using the RRS L-Bracket for the Sony A7RII. It provides protection for the camera, adds an extension to the body and a bit of weight which improves the balance of the camera with longer and heavier lens such as the 2470 GM. I bought the L bracket for the A9 with the same goals in mind. It is even more refined. The vertical portion can be easily adjusted and removed. It retains the idea of moving the battery door to the plate while retaining the weather integrity with a seal. This also facilitates a quick change of the RRS L bracket with the Sony battery grip which also needs to remove the battery door. Given the cost of the camera, this is a relatively small price for the added protection while providing a sturdy tripod mount. Purchasing this from B&H is far easier and less costly in shipping it to Canada.
