The filter fits into the standard 100x100mm-series holder. The solar eclipse filter is designed solely for solar and solar eclipse photography. It is not suitable for general long-exposure landscape photography, or for direct solar viewing with the naked eye.

Worked great for the eclipse! I will be using it for solar photography as well so I will be able to get a lot of use out of it. It color casts the sun to blue but corrects in post. Excellent quality and the pictures came out great.

20 Stop Filter

The filter is a 20 stop filter so it works. If you intend to have more than just the sun, You will need to overexpose the sun.

Solar photography, here I come.

I was able to shoot the Aug 21 eclipse with a Nikon D7200, and a 80-400mm lens w/1.4x teleconverter. This filter is a 20-stop, so at f/8 I needed to compensate with higher ISO and longer shutter speed than I would have liked, but good filters were in great demand for this eclipse. I also purchased the Lee filter holder and a 77mm adapter ring. This combination was not much more expensive than just a regular filter, so it is not a one-use solution. I have been doing more landscape photography, so the Lee system will come in handy.

Bad rear-surface reflection. I've contacted customer service but, so far, only questions, no answers or solutions. I'm still waiting for Lee Filters' reply.

Excellant filter, settings information provided.

The did exactly as promoted. I followed the provided instructions as was able to get some great photos of the eclipse 2017. The next one will go right over my home in Ohio. looking forward to using the filter again. B&H shipped timely and I had a chance to practice before the actual eclipse.

Essential Eclipse Tool

I already had a Benro 100mm holder so this 2mm thick filter worked seamlessly with it. The 20 stop filter was essential for shooting the 21 June Annular Eclipse in Abu Dhabi. Pics were amazingly crisp.

question

Will this filter fit in a Cokin filter holder?
Asked by: Cynthia N.
Cokin has four different filter holder sizes. That is, a-, p-, z-pro and x-pro holders. Since the Lee 100x100mm solar eclipse filter is 100mm wide, only Cokin z-pro holder can accomodate it.

question

Where are the specs on the UV and IR, because it looks to me like this is just a 20 stop filter with no other protections?
Asked by: Gregory P.
In a word, no. It does not have any UV protection. I used this on a Sigma 150 - 500 lens, screwed the adapter into the UV filter already in place, and got some killer pictures of the eclipse. I was hoping to attach the last pic just before it went total, and the first one after so you could see the results. I did remove it during totality. I used a D-80 so the only time the sensors were exposed was when the shutter was open. They recommend that you don't use this filter for viewing in lieu of proper eye wear (probably the lawyers), but obviously had to in order to frame & focus. Both the camera and my right eye suffered no ill effects. I'm going to my daughters in upstate New York for the next one and will use this filter again. Also, to my knowledge, IR exposure is not a problem for the human eye. Unless your happen to be sitting in the oven. :-) Hope this helps.

question

Could/Would you get similar results if you stacked two 10-stop ND filters?
Asked by: Brian M.
The guides for photographing the sun and eclipses specifically state not to try to stack ND filters as they do not adequately block the harmful rays.

The Tilta uses 4x4 by 4mm filters so this should work fine.
