The 2017 version of the Samsung Gear 360 allows you to broadcast live to friends and family in addition to recording 4K resolution video. It has also been redesigned with an easy-to-grip body and more compact camera head form factor. The Gear 360 lets you easily capture 360° spherical VR videos and photos that you can afterwards view with optional VR goggles or on 360 platforms such as YouTube 360 for an immersive experience in high resolution.

The camera features dual lenses that shoot everything around you at the same time, and it automatically stitches the captured images to provide you with a single, complete spherical image. The image can then be further edited, if you'd like, in VR editing software where you can even add effects.

Live broadcasting works by pairing the Gear 360 with your Samsung Galaxy smartphone (pairing to the free Gear 360 app) or computer, and then streaming to the platform of your choice, allowing your audience to join your adventures in real-time and in 360. Live broadcasting streams images in 1920 x 960 HD resolution. In regards to mobile devices, live broadcasting is limited to Samsung Galaxy phones and requires Nougat OS (Android 7.0) to be used.

Another way to connect with your audience is to use the Gear 360 app to convert the 360 content into standard video or photo formats that can be uploaded to social media. The app also allows you to add your own personal touch to your content by adjusting the view and layout of the images. You can select between five views: the native 360° View, Stretched View, Round View, Dual View, and Panoramic View.

The internal battery allows you to record for up to 130 minutes on a single charge (in 2560 x 1280 at 30 fps HD resolution). Everything is stored to a microSD card (not included) up to 256GB. The Gear 360 is dust- and splash-proof to be more convenient to use in your activities.

Amazing Photos and Videos!

My friends are jealous whenever I post a 360 photo or video. The clarity is amazing and the ability to see 360 when you are on top of a rope bridge or skyscraper is unreal. The battery could last longer (full day) and need a larger microSD so we don't need to download images during trips. I would recommend this product to my family and friends.

5 star intro VR imaging value,  2 star user friendly.

The good. Small, user friendly size and shape. Good image quality given the 4K spherical format. Reasonable cost for reasonable introduction into 360 VR. From what info I can gather, a substantially better camera would be 2x to 5x more expensive. The bad. Menu button operation is far from obvious. Android app requires high end Samsung phone which I don't have. Windows ActionDirector stitching app installation very buggy and difficult. Succeeded only with YT video help. Windows file management is poor. Files locations scattered around and difficult to keep track of. Windows USB communication with the camera and card is buggy but can be made to work. Would be 4 star with better controls and software.

About a year after I purchased the 360 it stopped working. The camera will not turn on at all. I've tried all the YouTube vids out there nothing has helped. So. Didnt even use it that much either..

Great camera, BUT

The camera itself is very nice. However there are very limited settings you can change. This could easily be changed with a software update. Things like shutter speed and ISO can be controlled on the galaxy phones under pro mode or even any regular camera, but there is no such thing for the gear 360. This is essential to take any professional photos.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Rcvd the 360 with my Note 8. Used it once. The next time I tried to charge it, it will not Charge, or Turn On. I see this is a common problem with no resolution.

question

Can I download full-rez content into a Windows Bootcamp/Parallels environment and just retrieve it from a network share in my Mac environment? I see lots of complaints about no support for Mac users and I'm wondering if this option ( pretending to be a Windows user) is the best workaround...
Asked by: Matthew J. M.
Downloading should be no problem at all. it's only the Samsung editing software that is an issue with Macs.

Can I run a live stream while attached to AC or external battery power? The Insta360 One X, for instance, can only live stream when connected to a phone by cable, and so the charging port is not available at that time. It won't charge while connected to a phone.
