Radial Engineering R800 7094 overview

  • 1Description

Part of their ToneBone series, the Radial Engineering Bumper is useful for guitarists, bassists, and other instrumentalists who wish to switch among four instruments on stage, all while using one amplifier. Taking a conventional stompbox form-factor, the unit offers four inputs for instruments, one output for your amplifier, a tuner output, and a footswitch to select each instrument.

With Class-A buffered circuitry, signal fidelity is ensured, allowing you to use longer cable runs in performances without signal degradation. The level of your signal can be adjusted with four potentiometers, each of which is switchable between trim and drag controls via dedicated toggles. The trim function is useful for matching the level of active instruments with passive guitars and basses, so that switching between them won’t cause obvious signal differences. The drag control, on the other hand, is particularly useful with passive pickups, as it adjusts their loads to counterbalance any effect the clean sound of the buffer might impart. With this control, you can reduce the input sensitivity or loudness of your selected instrument.

Four LEDs brightly display which input is in use at any given time. A tuner output allows you to port signal directly to a tuner, so you can quickly adjust the intonation of any connected instrument. The Bumper is constructed out of 14-gauge steel, and utilizes a powder-coat finish; both of these design-aspects contribute to its reliability, as does the unit’s shielding and military-spec circuit board, which provide protection against stray magnetic fields, allowing the controls and switches to remain free from interference. A power supply is not included, but the unit works with off-the-shelf pedalboard power supplies.
