Lenovo T470s overview

  • 1Description
Found in: Work Laptops

The 14" ThinkPad T470s Notebook from Lenovo is a business and security oriented system designed for the on-the-go professional. To ensure your data stays secure, it's outfitted with Windows 10 Pro, a fingerprint reader, vPro, and TPM (Trusted Platform Module), which encrypts your files. For performance, it has a 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7-7600U dual-core processor and 12GB of DDR4 RAM, which lets you efficiently multitask. Store your data in its 512GB Opal2 SSD, which provides you with enhanced security, and lets you boot and load files and applications within seconds.

Its 14" display, driven by integrated Intel HD graphics, features a 2560 x 1440 resolution and is built on an IPS (In-Plane Switching) panel, which offers vivid colors and wide viewing angles, so you can enjoy crisp and clear HD content. Other integrated features include 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Gigabit Ethernet to connect to the Internet, Bluetooth 4.1, USB 3.0 ports, a Thunderbolt 3 port, a 4-in-1 media card reader, an HDMI port, a webcam, speakers, microphones, as well as a 3.5mm mic and headphone combo jack. The operating system installed is Windows 10 Pro (64-Bit).

SSD Storage
Equipped with a solid-state drive, the T470s can boot and load applications quickly so you'll spend less time waiting around and more time getting things done.
Reliability
The ThinkPad T470s undergoes robust testing including pressure, temperature, humidity, vibration, and dust tests to ensure that it stays operational as long as possible.
Business-Ready & Secure
The T470s is equipped with multiple business and security oriented features including Windows 10 Pro, a fingerprint reader, vPro, and TPM (Trusted Platform Module), which encrypts all your data.
All-Day Battery
Get through a whole workday with the T470s, which features two built-in batteries for up to 12.5 hours of use on a single charge.
Web Conferencing Made Easy
The T470s is equipped with an HD webcam with dual-array microphones, which have background noise reduction technology, so you can video chat with friends, family, and coworkers.
Thunderbolt 3
Thunderbolt 3 is a hardware interface that utilizes the reversible USB Type-C connector. Doubling the speed of its predecessor, Thunderbolt 3 features a maximum throughput of 40 Gb/s when used with compatible devices. The connector also transmits data via USB 3.1 at up to 10 Gb/s, and dual-bandwidth DisplayPort 1.2 allows you to connect up to two 4K displays simultaneously. Additionally, you can daisy chain up to six devices from a single Thunderbolt 3 port.

Windows 10

Start Menu
After its hiatus in Windows 8, the Start Menu has returned. Utilizing a combination of the traditional menu system and Windows 8's Live Tiles, the improved Start Menu gives you more information at a glance, showing notification information alongside your applications and other pinned items.
Cortana
Microsoft's digital personal assistant, Cortana, can answer your questions with information gleaned from both your device and the Internet at large. You can type or even talk with her, if your system has a microphone. Using her Notebook, Cortana keeps track of your needs and wants, and she learns over time to improve her information-gathering skills.
Microsoft Edge
After nearly 20 years, Microsoft has finally replaced its Internet Explorer web browser. With Microsoft Edge, users can write directly on web pages and share notes with friends and colleagues. It also improves the online reading experience by adding a distraction-free mode and read-it-later functionality. Edge also has built-in Cortana integration; you can have her help you find a restaurant, make a reservation, and pull up directions without leaving your browser.
Windows Store
For Windows 10, Microsoft has unified the Windows Store. Now, apps for PCs, tablets, and phones will all be accessible from one place. And with support for Universal Apps, one version of an app can work across all your compatible devices automatically.
Windows Continuum
Windows 10 was designed for a variety of screen sizes and input styles, and with its Continuum feature, it automatically adapts to fit your needs. A Windows 10 tablet on its own requires a touch-centric approach, but attaching a mouse and keyboard will shift everything to a more traditional interface. You can even attach an external monitor to your Windows 10 phone for a near-desktop experience. But it's not just the operating system; Windows Universal Apps take advantage of Continuum as well.
Xbox on Windows 10
Gaming is a big focus of Windows 10. Xbox integration allows for PC players to match up against Xbox One players on supported games, and if you have an Xbox One, you can even stream compatible titles to your PC. Native support for recording with the new Game DVR feature makes it easy to capture and share your gameplay. The new DirectX12 takes better advantage of multi-core processors, giving games a performance boost, even on older hardware. Windows 10 also features native support for virtual reality headsets, such as the Oculus Rift.

    Lenovo T470s reviews

14" ThinkPad T470s Notebook (Silver) is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid and Reliable I bought this laptop for school to replace my old T440, which was quite disappointing. I have to say my ThinkPad T470s is almost perfect, the performance is quite humble but comes with great and quite cooling, the keyboard and touchpad.trackpoint are some of the best in the market, especially my trusty trackpoint. I'd have to say the only thing for Lenovo is the screen could be a little brighter, maybe 300 nits and the SSD could be a faster at this price point, maybe the pm961 instead of the slower intel 600p

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Solid laptop until you think the screen works well Make sure you read both reviews and support forums about the problems these laptops have with their screens. Everything else works great. Bought this for my college freshman who wanted a very mobile laptop. The screen flickers multiple times a day. When reading Lenovo forums this has been going on for years on many of their models and could be due to CPU power management or loose cables. Have applied all the updates and settings advice on resolving but the only option is to send in for maintenance repair. With classes starting this week we are stuck with the problem for now.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Everything I was looking for I'm switching back to Windows PC after the latest unimpressive computers from a certain fruit company were introduced. I was looking for a computer with a great keyboard (I type tens of thousands of emails a year for work), ports and a high-res display. I got the WQHD screen on my T470s. Overall I'm very happy with this computer. The keyboard is excellent, but I wish they wouldn't put the PgUp and PgDn keys next to the arrows or would provide a way to disable them. I often press them when I don't mean to. It has all of the ports that I need, including USB-C, USB-A, HDMI and full-sized SD in a year when many manufacturers are dropping SD or changing to Micro-SD. I also wish they had made the move to USB-C charging instead of the proprietary Lenovo charger. The computer is very light and feels strong except for some flex in the screen, but that doesn't seem to be a problem. It's quiet and cool almost all of the time for what I use it for, which is mostly web, email and spreadsheets.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I can't believe how much I love this laptop! I've had the T470s for a little over a month, so I can't yet speak to the laptops longevity; but it's a ThinkPad, so I'm not too worried. The T470s is not flashy, but it has everything I need: lightweight, loooong battery life, all the ports I need, amazing keyboard, and a solid display. The guts are good too. The *only* thing I would complain about is the fact that the FN key and left CTRL key are swapped as compared to traditional US keyboard layouts. You do have the option to swap the keys in the BIOS (it's quite simple). For longtime ThinkPad users, this is nothing new. In short, I love the T470s and I'm so happy I made the decision to purchase function over flash.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unstable I have a customized T460s, and I have been using that for almost a year. I had a system breakdown(bluescreen, not able to boot the computer, need to reinstall the system) 1 month after I got it. Then touch screen stopped working after 2 month. All my work is done using my laptop, so I did not have time to mail my computer to Texas and waited for a week. I just live with a not functioning touch screen. Also the computer would just reboot itself from time to time.(Once 2-3 month.). I had 12GB of memory, and just now, my chrome stopped working because of low memory, and the only running applications are my chrome and Adobe reader. It is sooooooo unstable. If you want to buy a Lenovo, better buy a five year warranty, 'cause you will expect problems every month.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK laptop, but the keyboard is bad The laptop is pretty good in terms of specs, but I am really disappointed by Lenovo ergonomic "innovations". Keyboards on visually modern laptops are absolutely terrible: flat square keys, not enough spacing, no key travel. they might as well replace them with touchscreens! For a while, Lenovo's chicklet keyboards were much better than the rest: they had decent curvature and good travel so you can feel you've actually hit a key. For 15 inch models, the keyboard was centered, so you didn't have to move your hands all the way to one side of the laptop. With the T570 (without backlight), all that is gone. *The keys have less travel, and they are basically flat. They typing experience is not very pleasant. The numpad forces you to shift your hands away from the center of the screen. Meanwhile the laptop has tons of unused vertical space, but they couldn't be bothered to put any dedicated hotkeys and media keys. you still have to choose between the easy function keys and volume keys! They've made the keyboard pretty flat, and the keys are now made of very thin plastic. Yet the laptop still weight 4.6 pounds (A macbook weights only four). So what was the point of cutting corners on the keyboard?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A True Upgrade I have had about 6 ThinkPads. Each time the new one was marginally better than the last. This change, T420 to a T470s, was a quantum leap! I am far more productive with the "instant on" performance of a solid state drive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Size This backpack is perfect for the business executive. It is large but not oversized. It has many features to store your business files and computer. It is very stylish and looks great!!
