Dracast LED500 overview

  • 1Description

This LED500 S-Series Bi-Color 3-Light Kit with NP-F Battery Plates from Dracast offers image makers a capable 3-point light solution that can be used in the studio or on the road. The kit features three S-Series Bi-Color LED500 panels equipped with NP-F battery plates, each coming with a diffuser, a power adapter, and an individual soft case for each light. Complementing the panels are three 7.2' stands for support and a hard kit case that can safely transport all the included gear.

  • LED500 Silver Series Bi-Color LED Light with Dual NP-F Battery Plate

Featuring a slimmer and lighter design at just 2.0 lb, the LED500 Silver Series Bi-Color LED Light from Dracast is an ideal choice for location work, interviews, and small sets where color accuracy, control, and flicker-free output are of major importance. Variable color temperature from 3200K-5600K or anywhere in between means that you can quickly match the prevailing ambient or artificial light balance with a simple twist of a knob while others are still applying filters. Dimming is equally convenient via another knob that adjusts the light intensity from 100-0% with negligible color shift. The low electrical draw of just 30W means a timely return on your investment.

The durable anodized aluminum frame is supported by an oversized, U-shaped yoke with locking knobs on each side and a standard 5/8" receiver. The LED500 can be used worldwide, powered by the included 100-240 VAC adapter in the studio, or by NP-F batteries in the field. Four-way barndoors for contouring and control of the LED500's 45-degree beam angle are included. For protection during transport and storage, a carry case is included.

Dracast LED500 reviews

LED500 S-Series Bi-Color 3-Light Kit with NP-F Battery Plates and Hard Case is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I AM AMAZED! AMAZING! I've worked with light kits with less power and features for more than twice the price! Each of the three LED light panels are about 10x10, bi-color adjustable, intensity adjustable, digital readout in the rear, BP battery capable, ac adapters, barn doors, and solid diffusion panel included. PLUS individual soft cases for each lamp AND also, separate soft cases for each of the three included, spring loaded light stands (8'+ I believe). Finally, one large, sealed, hard plastic case with collapsible handle and wheels - big enough for the kit plus room to spare for a small sized camera bag. All this for less than $600 plus S&H?! B&H also helped me to get the kit with BP batteries instead of the more expensive V battery version. One note - one of the stands had a cracked plastic joint, but a simple call to Draco Broadcast and they promised to process a replacement. Very, very happy with the purchase and build quality.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from You get lots for your money however... First off, the quality of light these lamps are capable of are spot on, I also like the ability to tune in the colour temperature. The build quality of the lights themselves are good for the price, the light stands are somewhat wobbly and don't go as tall as I would of wanted. The individual bags that carry the lights are not that good and I broke the zipper on one the first day I owned the kit. Excellent light kit for basic interview set up, I would recommend these lights as like I said the light cast by these lights are pleasing and lack that weird cheep LED green hue.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Works like a $600 light kit This light kit is not for professionals. I ordered this light kit as a travel location kit. When I first got the kit I received the soft case when I ordered the hard case. It took over a week and many phone calls to get the proper case. The lights themselves work good not a lot of light but that is to be expected with lights this small. The controls on the back of the lights feel cheap, but have a digital read out which is nice to dial in temperatures accurately. The stands are good for travel, although the bottom sections jam every time they fully extended. If you are on a tight budget and don't use lights on every shoot these will work for you. On the other hand if you are a professional and depend on reliable equipment, you are better off spending a little more for a professional kit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Packs a punch! I'd like to preface this review by letting everyone know this is the first light kit I have personally owned, however this is not the first light kit that I have used. With that out the way, this is power little, comfortable, kit. I love how compact everything is, simple and quick set up. The Bi-color is a great. the LED panel is even better. Light output is proper, but obviously some drop off the farther you go. Even without diffusion paper, the lighting is quite soft. Only issues I have with it are the stands are a little fragile, and the barn doors aren't as intuitive as i'd like. But knew these things before I purchased the kit, and it has not affected my work flow at all. Just use some sandbags, which are standard practice anyway in some cases. The hard case is a huge plus! Highly recommend, I'll be looking at adding the LED 1000's to my arsenal in the near future!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic light kit for the price I received my Dracast lights with the hard case. I will say that the case comes in extremely handy. I not only store my lights in there but a lot of my other gear as well. It definitely is a great size, the wheels on it are very useful, and it is nicely padded on the inside. The Pros: On to the lights, they are high quality, super versatile, and I like that you can change the color balance and dim them how you want. I prefer to have full control of my lights, so that is a big pro for me. Plugging them in, or having the option to use batteries is another great thing. If you are somewhere where you need to be mobile, or maybe you are a fast-paced shooter, hands down these get the job done. It takes seconds to move them around and light your scene quickly. They are easy and fast to set up. These are the biggest selling points, which is why I'll be buying more. The light stands are good quality and very lightweight. The back panel is good. It comes with two knobs for dimming and color balance, and a digital readout. Also for reference, I have the NPF battery kit. If you go with the V-Mount or anything else, you may get a different layout of the back panel. The barn doors are nice and firm. The kit also comes with 3 diffusers as well, in case you want to soften your light output. It works well. Bonus pro: these were very handy when the Hurricane season was around and the power was out for a couple weeks. The Cons: The light output can be better, but you really can't complain at this price point. I usually stack the lights sometimes when I know I'll be using only 1 or 2 lights in a scene. I recommend, if you have the money, buy a few sets of these and the light output will not be a problem. Moving on, the barn doors don't really do a good job at controlling light spill. I highly recommend using flags. These lights spill almost too much. The only adjustment where the barn doors work is when they are nearly closed together. Next, the output changes when you change the color balance. So basically, all of the LED's will be on when you are at daylight balance. Once you start going to cooler or warmer colors, the LED's turn off for the opposite color you are dialing away from. So if you go warmer, the cooler lights will turn off as you dial farther into your color balance. And vise versa. I would of liked it better if all of the lights stayed on and actually changed color temperatures themselves. Again, not a big issue. It looks seamless when you look at your scene, and you cannot tell the difference except for the output. Conclusion: One of my lights' power adapters did seize to function and I contacted Dracast for a replacement and their customer service was impeccable. They helped me out with no problems. Kudos! I'll be buying more of these soon.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value for the dollar I got the kit after using some of a fellow photographer's lights on a shoot. The adjustable color temp is really a nice feature for me. I ordered the kit with the hard case as I do travel a lot for my productions. The kit arrived in the soft case and I have notified B&H about the discrepancy and they are working on resolving the issue.
