The AKG D5 is a handheld supercardioid dynamic microphone designed to accurately capture vocals and instruments for artists and audio engineers in clubs, concert venues, and houses of worship. The laminated Varimotion diaphragm exhibits a frequency-independent supercardioid polar pattern for excellent off-axis rejection of audio across the frequency spectrum. This allows high-gain-before-feedback and reduces stage bleed through the mic. Handling noise is minimized via the dual-shock capsule mount while the integrated pop filter impedes plosives and wind noise.

The 70 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response and maximum SPL of 147 dB at 1% THD ensure reliable reproduction of various sources from loud vocals to punchy snares. The D5 boasts a rugged die-cast housing and a spring-steel, wire-mesh grille. It ships with a stand adapter and storage bag.

D5 Handheld Supercardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than Shure sm58... I have become convinced that the D5 is superior to the shure sm58 or any other mic in this price range. It cuts through the mix and has more clarity. I am speaking in terms of live performance in pop/rock style of music. I really don't know how it would measure up using it to record but it rocks as a live vocal mic for lead and background vocals. I even prefer it to the sure beta 58 and 87 too. This is the best vocal mic available for live applications in this range.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from D5 Vocal Microphone by AKG I use this as part of a home Karaoke system. It is very solid, well made and works well with the preamp that I also purchased from B&H. I can't think of any bad features about it. The preamp must be adjusted to the amp and speakers that attach to it. (I'm using a Bose Wave radio as the amp and speakers, and it works well with the mike and preamp I selected.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sensitive and wide frequency I was making my video Voice overs on a Large Diaf, Condenser mic and had a lot of work dampening the places, .This mic has a very wide frequency capturing a full range of sounds but isolating the voice, Also warm , low handling Noise for interviews, Fantastic build. As a reference compared with my enCore 100, is more sensitive about 7 db, wider dynamic range.
