Lomography Daguerreotype Achromat 64mm f/2.9 Art Lens for Canon EF (Brass)
Key Features
  • EF-Mount Lens/Full-Frame Format
  • Aperture Range: f/2.9 to f/16
  • Based on Chevalier's Achromat from 1835
  • Simple Doublet Optical Design
Based on the first lens designed specifically for photography, the Canon EF-mount Daguerreotype Achromat 64mm f/2.9 Art Lens from Lomography is a modern interpretation of the classic Chevalier-designed optic from 1835, which was popularized by Daguerre. Using a simple doublet optical design, this lens can produce either characteristic soft focus imagery when shot wide open, or strikingly sharp, well-defined imagery at smaller aperture settings. It uses a Waterhouse aperture system and includes six discs for full-stop adjustments between f/2.9 to f/16, and a series of six creative Lumiere and Aquarelle aperture plates are also included to render either dreamy, glowing images or pictures with a more painterly quality. Manual focus control is possible using the built-in helicoid for working with subjects as close as 1.6' away, and the lens features a classic-looking brass housing.

Lomography Daguerreotype Achromat Overview

Based on the achromatic lens developed by Chevalier, and used by Daguerre, in 1835, this updated lens retains a similar image quality and allows you to alternate between producing soft-focus, ethereal pictures and sharp-focus, well-defined imagery.
A slightly longer-than-normal-length lens, this Canon EF-mount version is compatible with full-frame sensors and 35mm film, as well as APS-C sensors where it will provide a 102.4mm equivalent focal length.
Simple doublet optical design produces an aesthetic image quality reminiscent of the nearly 200-year-old lens.
Six drop-in style Waterhouse stops, ranging from f/2.9 to f/16, are included for aperture and depth of field control, and are inserted into the middle of the lens prior to making an exposure.
A set of three Lumiere and three Aquarelle aperture plates are also included to produce softer, more painterly effects than the traditional circular plates. The Lumiere plates produce a soft glowing quality with a delicate grainy background while the Aquarelle plates offer a rich, textured, and painterly effect.
Manual focusing helicoid permits working with subjects as close as 1.6' away.
Brass exterior design resembles the classic appearance of the early lens from 1835.

question

Will the Lemography Achromat lens for Canon EF work with a lens adaptor on a Sony A7II e mount camera?
Asked by: Anthony B.
Yes Lomography even makes an adaptor. With this lens since everything is manual so long as the mount on the camera isn't further away than the original the will never be an issue. This lens in naturally soft so that's something to keep in mind before purchasing though.
