Sirui P-224SR Reviews

So far I am impressed!

As other reviewers have mentioned the carbon fiber shaft only offset it's true weight, if all aluminum, and it is still heavier than I had thought it would be. However, the very well designed tripod base can be removed and a chromed point or a plastic bumper tip are both supplied. Do not leave equipment unattended on this tripod base attached to the monopod! It is stable for use but not like a standard tripod would be support-wise. This works well with my Nikon Z and 200mm (+2x = 400mm) lens mounted to the lens. I bought a better quality Chinese ball mount and, short of a gimble, works well with plenty of support and articulation. All important joints are blue anodized heavy aluminum and articulates/rotates, when released at the tripod base too. Comes with a nice canvas-nylon carry bag.

Never leave home without this!

Sirui definitely knows how to make a great monopod. At this point in my career, I've owned and used both the aluminum and carbon fiber versions of this monopod, but the carbon fiber monopod surprised me. This thing is so light and sturdy that I now keep my gimbal setup on top for most of my workdays filming weddings. The folding tripod base at the bottom is very sturdy and can hold up my gimbal setup unassisted without fear of it toppling over, that alone had me sold on buying one immediately. I would do it again if I ever need another monopod!

Great monopod which works like a tripod - for me. I take it on my daily photography hikes. I find it extremely adaptable for all occasions which I come against. I have used it for numerous macro shots and it holds my camera secure enough for me to take numerous shots on the subjects with my wireless remote - my cellphone or iPad. I fitted it with a clip on shoulder strap and it fits very nicely over my shoulder with my back pack.

I never thought a monopod could invoke such emotion out of me. But this thing is an absolutely incredible camera staff! This particular Sirui staff successfully combines the benefits of both tripod and monopod into one sleek package--and not just for photography but for video shooting. Every piece organically and quickly deploys, tightens & loosens to help you setup, get the shot, and get out of there. It feels wayyy more durable and reliable than a few cheaper monopods I tried prior, and really seems to punch above its price with quality. Seriously, I just can't convey how fantastic this thing is to actually use! Some serious thought and engineering went into perfecting this monopod..it's monopod perfection. The only cons I can find lie in its relatively large size and weight, at least compared to other monopods. But the added functionality and stability provided by the size and weight makes it WELL worth the slight extra heft! And this thing is still loads lighter than a regular video tripod. Cannot recommend enough--especially if you're shooting video!

Can you please tell me what the diameter of the top circular plate is?
Asked by: Simon
The plate's useful diameter is 2". There are "serrations" extending slightly further but the "plate" itself is slightly raised and 2" across. The plate can be removed from the shaft and is held in place by a reversible, dual end screw with one side 1/4"-20 thread and the other end is 3/8" threaded. The plate is also equipped with two "allen" headed set screws that can be used to increase security when attaching a video head to the monopod.

In comparison to Sirui EP-204S, specs seem to be very similar, yet this carbon fiber is heavier and $100 more expensive. Is there advantage on this over Sirui EP-204S ?
Asked by: Mark
There are some differences, starting with the basic differences between Carbon Fiber and Aluminum. Carbon Fiber better resists temperature changes and absorbs vibrations better. The Sirui SUP224SR uses twist locks as opposed to flip locks. Also the base has been redesigned to work a little better.

Is the monopod section any different from the P326?
Asked by: Andrew
Yes, if you look at the rings that you twist to loosen/tighten each section then you can most easily see one design difference. Also, the P326 folds down to a closed length of just 15.6" (39.6cm), whereas with this monopod it's 24.5" (62.23cm). The P326 will also take more weight (22lbs. or 10kg) than this option (17.6lbs. or 8kg). But the legs in the case of this monopod set it apart even more. Yes, it will work but a monopod with a higher load capacity would be better, like the Sirui 424. You can click on the link to view; https://bhpho.to/2IQNeke
