Rode VideoMic GO Overview

This B&H Kit includes the Rode VideoMic GO camera-mount shotgun microphone with an integrated windscreen and Rycote Lyre shockmount, a dual-shoe bracket with a rubberized grip, and a coiled TRS cable, providing a simple mic setup for quality audio recording using any camcorder or HDSLR camera that supplies plug-in power.

The dual-shoe bracket attaches to the bottom of your camera and provides two cold shoes—one on top and one on the side for attaching lights and other accessories. A thumbscrew enables mounting the bracket along with a camera onto a tripod, fluid head, ball head, or other gear.

Rode VideoMic GO Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone

Longer than Rode's VideoMicro and with a narrower pickup pattern, the Rode VideoMic GO camera-mount shotgun microphone offers enhanced off-axis rejection for tighter directionality. Like the VideoMicro, it runs on plug-in power and has no controls or switches, making it well suited for mobile journalists, vloggers, and run-and-gun shooters in a hurry.

This compact and lightweight shotgun microphone features an integrated shockmount that mounts directly to your DSLR, mirrorless, or video camera and reduces noise from vibrations and camera handling. The windscreen design reduces wind noise, making it well suited for outdoor shoots. The detachable coiled 3.5mm TRS cable ensures easy hookup to your camera, and the dual-mono output means that no channel selection is necessary on your recording device.

Shotgun Mic with Directional Sound Pickup

Whereas most built-in camera microphones pick up sound from all directions, this microphone utilizes a supercardioid polar pattern to focus on sound in front of it while attenuating sound from the sides and rear. Its active electronics and directional condenser element deliver more detailed audio than the mics typically found in cameras and portable recorders.

Easy Hookup to Camera

A detachable coiled 3.5mm cable is supplied for fast hookup to your camera. The cable is wired in a dual-mono configuration, ensuring that the mic signal is sent identically to both input channels of your camera or portable recorder.

Runs on Plug-In Power

No batteries are required to operate the VideoMic GO. Just connect the microphone to your camera or recorder, enable plug-in power on the device, and forget about swapping or charging batteries.

Integrated Shockmount Inhibits Vibrations

Understanding that the rubber bands used in many shockmounts can snap and stretch, Rode chose to integrate a rugged Rycote Lyre suspension-style shockmount. This simplifies setup of the mic and inhibits the transfer of vibrations from the camera. Plus, the bottom of the shockmount features a camera shoe mount with a 3/8" thread, ensuring easy attachment to your camera or a boompole such as Rode's Micro Boompole (available separately).

Windscreen Minimizes Wind Noise

The VideoMic GO has a foam windscreen to reduce unwanted wind noise from breezes, fans, heaters, and air conditioners. For maximum reduction of wind noise in outdoor environments, consider a furry windshield such as the Rode DeadCat GO (available separately).

Connectivity Options

Expand the microphone's device compatibility with Rode accessories such as the SC4, SC7, and VXLR+ (all available separately). With either the SC4 or SC7, you can connect the VideoMic GO directly to a smartphone or tablet equipped with a 3.5mm TRRS jack. The VXLR+ adapter is the ideal solution when you want to record the VideoMic GO to a camcorder or mixer that has XLR inputs.

Vello Dual-Shoe Bracket with Grip

The Vello Dual-Shoe Bracket with Grip features two sturdy shoe mounts offset on the side for securely mounting accessories such as lights and microphones. Your camera attaches in the center, and a rubberized grip on the side allows you to hold the entire setup with two hands for steadier shots. The lightweight bracket provides a compact, all-in-one type mounting solution for your DSLR, mirrorless camera, or camcorder.

Additionally, a 1/4"-20 threaded hole on the bottom allows you to mount the bracket along with your camera and accessories directly on tripods and other camera supports. Your camera secures to the bracket without any tools using the included mounting thumbscrew.

Two Shoe Mounts

The Vello Dual-Shoe Bracket offers two cold shoes for off-camera accessory attachment. Secure the bracket to your camera's tripod mount and connect a light above your camera and a microphone to the side. This makes it easy to expand and enhance your recording capabilities with an easy-to-attach bracket.

Stable Grip

The Dual-Shoe Bracket provides a rubberized grip for steadying your shots with an extra hand. Having two points of contact means less shaking and sharper images—plus, shooting with two hands helps when filming action.

Would this work with a PTZOptics camera? Not clear on the power output requirements.
Asked by: Aidan
No, the Rode VideoMic Go is not compatible for direct connection to the PTZOptics camera since the camera's 3.5mm audio input is not a mic input. The audio input on the camera accepts a 3.5mm stereo unbalanced line level audio signal which can come from a mixer or another unbalanced line level audio source. Please check with our video department for more details about the specific PTZOptics camera you have. The Rode VideoMic Go can be connected to a dedicated microphone input and requires 2.5V of plug-in power which is a low voltage (typically about 2 to 5V) that can be supplied by the 3.5mm mic input on many DSLRs, camcorders, mirrorless cameras, and portable recorders. The power for the mic is drawn from the camera's or recorder's battery and supplied through the mic input. A line level 3.5mm input cannot supply plug-in power and is not intended for a microphone. Please contact us by phone or through live chat and we can help you to put together a compatible setup for your application.
