Walk around all day with the Vario-Tessar T* FE 24-70mm f/4 ZA OSS Lens from Sony, a compact full-frame option that covers wide-angle to short telephoto perspectives for working with a variety of different shooting styles and subjects. A constant f/4 aperture makes operation smooth and consistent throughout the zoom range. The lens further benefits from the use of one extra-low dispersion element and five aspherical elements to combat aberrations as well as a Zeiss T* anti-reflective coating to keep flare and ghosting to an absolute minimum. The lens is fast to focus as well due to the linear autofocus motor and an internal focus design. Additionally, the dust- and moisture-resistant lens is equipped with Optical SteadyShot image stabilization to reduce the effects of camera shake, and it has a seven-blade circular diaphragm for smooth bokeh.

Based on the Zeiss Tessar optical concept, this lens uses a design with 12 elements in ten groups that helps ensure a smaller overall lens size along with reduced flaring, distortion, and chromatic aberrations.
Covering wide-angle to short telephoto perspectives, this compact 24-70mm can quickly become a go-to lens for Sony's full-frame E-mount cameras. It can also be used on APS-C format cameras where it will provide a 36-105mm equivalent zoom range.
A constant f/4 maximum aperture offers consistent performance throughout the zoom range and also lends greater control over focus position for shallow depth of field techniques.
Zeiss T* anti-reflective coatings have been applied to each lens surface to help minimize reflections in order to provide greater image clarity, contrast, and color fidelity.
One extra-low dispersion glass element is featured in the lens design to help reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color neutrality.
Five aspherical elements are incorporated in the lens design to reduce astigmatism, field curvature, coma, and other monochromatic aberrations.
Optical SteadyShot image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake for sharper imagery when shooting handheld with slower shutter speeds. This stabilization system can also be combined with select camera's sensor-shift type image stabilization for more effective control of camera blur.
A linear autofocus motor and internal focus design provide quick and precise autofocus performance and enables accurate and silent focusing while recording videos.
Dust- and moisture-sealed design better permits working in inclement conditions and rubberized control rings benefit handling in colder temperatures.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing selective focus techniques.

    Vario-Tessar T* FE 24-70mm f/4 ZA OSS Lens is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 102.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from A good all around lens I'm a pro photographer who works on Film and TV productions. I purchased this lens to use with my Sony A7SII. The lens seems sharp and it is pretty quick in focusing but I'm not completely happy with the knurling on the focus ring when I'm using manual focus. The grooves aren't deep or textured enough for a good grip especially with gloves on, as I often shoot outside in all weather. I had to end up butting a rubber bracelet around the focusing ring for a better grip with gloves. This is an f 4.0 lens (the slowest 35mm I own), but with the A7Sii's ability to use high iso its not much of a problem, don't count on much bokeh though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Truly great lens The most important thing is of course the quality of the pictures taken with this lens. Well I'm pleased beyond my expectations and honestly bought the lens on trial with the thought I'd return it if not wowed... because of the rather steep price. In either portrait or interior shots or mid-range zoom (i.e. 70mm) this lens is dazzling. Size and weight were other considerations as I plan to use it for travel and my big zoom is just too heavy and bulky. It appears to be a great balance of usefulness, quality, size & weight. Taking it on a trip in a few weeks and we'll see. For now I'm very happy with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love ... Love the lens! After reading a lot of harsh review from other web site, I opted to buy this lens since I need a walk around lens for street photography. No regrets that I bought this coz the picture quality of this lens is amazing. I have this for over 3 weeks now and the shots I took has this zeiss color quality. Working as an assistance fashion photographer I describe this lens as constructed with quality and beauty. The lens screens expensive! I love the feel of it in your hand, and I love the proportion when attached to the A7.As in Fashion you pay more for the label. But this one ... you are paying the label and the quality. I will buy this lens again and I will recommend it to anybody.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Zeiss 24-70 f:4.0 is fantastice. I ordered the lens without much information being available. After using it for a week I am thrilled with the performance. The constant aperture works without any draw backs. I have several Sony and Minolta high end lenses and this is on par with the best. On a scale from 1-5, I rate it as a 4.7. I shoot mostly out of doors but was in a museum and shooting with available light and the results are just as amazing as those taken outside on a sunny day. Image stabilization worked without any blurred shot shooting hand held. I would recommend the lens as a great mate for the Sony A7R for general shooting. have not taken any shots where bokeh was a factor.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quality lens I ordered this lens to use for landscape. It did not disappoint. I should say that Zeiss is not know for making zoom lens and this is a great challenge for a company known for making the best primes on the market. The agreement between Sony & Zeiss to produce quality lens for their A & E mount lens appears to be smoothing out. I sent the first 24-70 back because it was too soft along the edges. The second one image results is what I expected from the best lens maker in the land. The lens for the most part is very sharpe throughout, even the corners are acceptable for high quality enlargements taken with my Sony A7R.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Walkabout Lens I use this lens on my Sony A7Rmk2 as a general walkabout lens for street photography and family shots. I think it is a great walkabout lens and good value for money now that it is cheaper than the launch price. I think some people expect it to be as sharp as a similar priced prime lens but that will never happen - you give up some sharpness in exchange for the flexibility of the zoom. 24mm is quite wide and very usefull. Sometmes I would like a bit more than 70mm on the long end but with so many pixels to play with on modern cameras you can just crop. I really like this lens.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent versatile lens This is an excellent combination with the A7RII body. It is well balanced and IQ is fantastic. Sure it is a little soft around the edges, but for wedding, travel and family pics it works wonderfully. The focusing is quick and accurate. I switched from multiple Canon L glass, which are fantastic lenses, this lens is comparable in most situations ... and much much more portable, which is important to me. I would recommend this as a great walk around lens due to its light weight (when compared to L glass) and its quick and accurate focusing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent walk-around and travel lens The lens has performed admirably for street and travel photography with my Sony A7, but it is not perfect. It is very sharp for a zoom, particularly in the center. Image stabilization works extremely well. It is built like a tank, which makes it a bit heavy on the A7. I have used it in the Mahane Yehuda market in Jerusalem and in Prague, among other places, and I am very pleased with the results. That said, it cannot compare to the great Sony Zeiss FE 55mm 1.8 prime, but that lens is in a class nearly by itself. My main complaints are the distortion (easily corrected) and the slightly rough bokeh, but the images are nevertheless impressive. All in all, a fine addition to the Sony A7 system.
