Spanning a useful range of telephoto focal lengths, the FE 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 G OSS from Sony is a versatile zoom lens designed for full-frame E-mount mirrorless cameras. Complementing the reach, this lens' optical design incorporates four aspherical elements and two extra-low dispersion glass elements to control spherical and chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range for increased clarity, sharpness, and color accuracy. A Nano AR coating has also been applied to individual lens elements to minimize lens flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions. Well-suited to a variety of telephoto needs, this zoom lens balances both a versatile focal length range along with a sophisticated optical design for maintained image quality.

Working in concert with the optical assets, this lens also incorporates an Optical SteadyShot image stabilization mechanism that minimizes the appearance of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting. Also benefitting sharpness is a linear actuator autofocus system, which offers smooth, quiet focusing performance to support both stills and movie recording applications. An internal focusing mechanism is also employed, which limits the overall length of the lens when focusing and both a focus range limiter and focus hold button facilitate more intuitive handling. Additionally, the lens is designed to be dust- and moisture resistant for use in trying conditions.

Designed to cover a variety of telephoto perspectives, this full-frame 70-300mm E-mount lens can also be used on APS-C format cameras where it will provide an equivalent zoom range of 105-450mm.
A variable f/4.5-5.6 aperture helps keep lens size and weight to a minimum while still offering outstanding image quality.
Two extra-low dispersion glass elements are featured in the lens design to help reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color neutrality.
Four aspherical elements are incorporated in the lens design to reduce astigmatism, field curvature, coma, and other monochromatic aberrations.
Optical SteadyShot image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake for sharper imagery when shooting handheld with slower shutter speeds. This stabilization system can also be combined with select camera's sensor-shift type image stabilization for more effective control of camera blur.
A linear autofocus motor and internal focus design provide quick and precise autofocus performance and enables accurate and silent focusing while recording videos.
A focus range limiter button offers faster performance when photographing moving subjects.
Dust- and moisture-sealed design better permits working in inclement conditions and rubberized control rings benefit handling in colder temperatures.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing selective focus techniques.

    FE 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 G OSS Lens is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 92.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's a beauty (and a beast) I love this lens. It's teamed up with the new Sony A6300 and I am getting much better results than I could get from the Canon 7D with the old Canon 400 prime. It's all about it being lighter and OSS on the 70-300. Yes, it's expensive but if you are trying to get wildlife on a relative budget in the Northeast US, where all of the birds are very skittish - this lens can bring it home. Don't expect the results of a $7,000 to $12,000 lens like your rich friends have, but it is very good. I say it's a beast because it's a FE lens and that makes it heavier than most E mount lenses for APS-C bodies. I'm an old lady and I can handle it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great medium zoom for Sony E Mount I needed a long zoom for my A7R and A7Rii and this lens fills the need. It is slow with a max aperture from f4.5 to f5.7, but I usually shoot in daylight or with strobes or speed lights, so not a big problem. It is fairly compact and light for a 70-300, so no complaints there, and I appreciate the OSS on my A7R. The best thing about this lens is the overall quality and sharpness. It compares well to my Nikon 70-200 f2.8 in terms of sharpness, color and contrast, for less than half the price of the Nikon. Also appreciate the focus hold button, a feature usually available on more expensive lenses. Overall, very satisfied.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I was hoping for! Was looking for alittle extra reach. I use a tripod alot so was not to worried about the speed. A7rii seems to be perfect for this lens. My copy at least is very sharp and do not see any quality difference between my 70-200f4 and this, and that is a very good lens as well. This in combination with the new 24-70 GM is my kit for hiking. No it is not the lightest but both are ridiculously sharp lens. Still want to get the 18mm Batis if it ever becomes available. Then basically my kit is complete. I have only had the lens for about 2 weeks but find it very good and performing as advertised even up to 300mm. Highly recommend this lens.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good. Not great. I wanted to move to a more light weight system than my Canon system, so I bought the Sony A7ii camera and had been using it with a Metabones adapter and my Canon 'L' lenses until my recent purchase of the Sony 70-300mm lens. It is a good bit lighter than the Canon 70-200mm and 100-400mm lenses. The Sony 70-300mm lens produces very nice shots, but the AF is not as quick or consistently dependable as my Canon 7Dii with the Canon lenses. Despite the occasional AF problem, for wildlife shots close-in, such as hummingbirds and butterflies, the Sony A7ii with the 70-300mm lens can usually produce very nice results at a lot less weight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very happy with this lens I bought this and the Tamron 150-600 w/ LAEA3 for my A7Rii and A6000. Long story short, I'm returning the Tamron 150-600 w/ LAEA3 because this 70-300 out-performs it in just about every situation. It's sharp at 70 all the say through 300, where the Tamron falls dramatically off at 450 or so. I knew this before buying, but the 70-300 works perfectly on the A6000, where the Tamron will only work on the A6300, and reviews indicate it doesn't perform as well on APS-C on Canon/Nikon. The autofocus is passable on the Tamron, but really fast on the 70-300, and all modes are supported. The size and handling are excellent. I think it will be fine on a tripod without a collar.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Product Meets My Expectations I have had this lens for about a month now. I use it primarily for wildlife photography with my Sony A6000. This lens has performed quite well. I have taken it out several times and it has performed flawlessly. I have not noticed a drop-off in clarity throughout the range of the zoom. Seems as sharp at 300mm as it is at 70mm. Of course, even though it performs at an equivalent range of 105mm to 450mm with my camera I wish I had even greater range. One idiosyncrasy of the lens ( and I don't know if this is normal ) is that it takes a while to focus in low light conditions. In moderate to bright light, it operates quite well. I hope to update this review with more use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Very Good, Very Portable Telephoto Option for Sony E Mount I use this lens on a Sony AR7ii and it replaces an 70-400mm sony A mount lens that I used with an adapter. In comparison, the two lenses seem to have similar sharpness (very good, but not outstanding) and the 70-300mm focuses much quicker (but not blazingly fast). Since I travel quite a lot, this lens is much more useful since it is much smaller and lighter than the lens that it replaces. I am happy to trade the extra 100mm of reach for the portability and quicker focusing. I have also tried it on a full-spectrum converted NEX-7 camera body; and it shoots in Infrared light with no observable hotspots, even stopped all the way down. So far, so good.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sorry To Rain On Your Parade I tried 2 copies of this lens. One of which was less than sharp on the right side at 300mm and the 2nd horrid not sharp on the left side. The bottom line is also that between 200-300mm this lens loses sharpness at the extreme sides/corners. Pure and simple it will NOT provide a completely sharp full frame image at 300mm. Perhaps optically it's design isn't able to accomplish this. It WILL provide a superbly sharp central portion of the frame even wide open. That's miraculous enough as it is, and if you can live without sharp sides or corners shooting at 300mm this could be the lens for you. The OSS is excellent as is the build and overall feel. Just sad it won't deliver sharp corners at 300mm no matter how you stop it down.
