Microsoft combines the portability of a tablet and the performance of a laptop with the 2017 version of the Surface Pro 12.3" 256GB Multi-Touch Tablet. Weighing just 1.73 pounds and measuring just 0.33" thin, the Surface Pro packs a 7th-Gen (Kaby Lake) 2.6 GHz Intel Core i5-7300U processor into a magnesium casing with a silver finish. Use the multi-position Kickstand and the Surface Pro Type Cover (sold separately) to turn the Surface Pro into a laptop. The updated Surface Pen (sold separately) provides up to 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity.

The Surface Pro features a 12.3" PixelSense display with a 2736 x 1824 screen resolution (267 ppi) and a 3:2 aspect ratio. The display is also a 10-point touch support, so you can take full advantage of the multi-touch gestures incorporated into Windows 10 Pro. If you want to play video on an external display, you can do so using the Mini DisplayPort output.

The Intel Core i5-7300U processor has a base clock of 2.6 GHz but can boost up to 3.5 GHz when performing demanding tasks. It also has integrated Intel HD Graphics 620. The Surface Pro has 8GB of RAM, a 256GB solid state drive, a microSD media card slot, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, a 5MP front-facing camera, an 8MP rear-facing camera with 1080p HD video recording, and dual integrated microphones. There are also built-in stereo speakers with Dolby audio.

Windows 10 Pro is the installed operating system. The Pro version of Windows 10 includes all of the features of Windows 10 Home plus many designed specifically for businesses users, including Hyper-V virtualization, BitLocker disk encryption, and remote desktop access. Devices will also be able to join domains and the Azure Active Directory, and they can even access a specialized version of the Windows Store featuring custom, company-specific applications.

Microsoft Surface Pro

12.3" PixelSense 10-Point Multi-Touch Display
Featuring a 2736 x 1824 screen resolution with 267 pixels per inch, the 12.3" PixelSense display provides a high-res, clear viewing experience. Use the multi-position Kickstand for a hands-free way to watch movies. The display is also a touchscreen, so you'll be able to utilize the multi-touch gestures incorporated into Windows 10 Pro. You can also output video to an external display via Mini DisplayPort.
Intel Dual-Band 802.11ac Wi-Fi
Featuring Intel dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi, the Surface Pro delivers faster Internet access, broader coverage, and longer battery life than was available with previous Wi-Fi standards. The Surface Pro is also backwards compatible with 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi networks. The Surface Pro also comes with Bluetooth 4.0, so you'll be able to connect wirelessly to Bluetooth-compatible peripherals and accessories.
The Portability of a Tablet
Weighing in at 1.73 pounds and measuring 0.33" thin, the Surface Pro can be used in classes, at meetings, or on the road. The bright, responsive touchscreen and the high-quality speakers with Dolby audio provide an immersive viewing experience, while the front 5-megapixel camera allows you to video chat with friends and family in high resolution.

Windows 10 Pro

Start Menu
After its hiatus in Windows 8, the Start Menu has returned. Utilizing a combination of the traditional menu system and Windows 8's Live Tiles, the improved Start Menu gives you more information at a glance, showing notification information alongside your applications and other pinned items.
Cortana
Microsoft's digital personal assistant, Cortana can answer your questions with information gleaned from both your device and the internet at large. You can type or even talk with her, if your system has a microphone. Using her Notebook, Cortana keeps track of your needs and wants, and she learns over time to improve her information gathering skills.
Microsoft Edge
After nearly 20 years, Microsoft has finally replaced its Internet Explorer web browser. With Microsoft Edge, users can write directly on web pages and share notes with friends and colleagues. It also improves the online reading experience by adding a distraction-free mode and read-it-later functionality. Edge also has built-in Cortana integration; you can have her help you find a restaurant, make a reservation, and pull up directions without leaving your browser.
Windows Store
For Windows 10, Microsoft has unified the Windows Store. Now, apps for PCs, tablets, and phones will all be accessible from one place. And with support for Universal Apps, one version of an app can work across all your compatible devices automatically.
Windows Continuum
Windows 10 was designed for a variety of screen sizes and input styles, and with its Continuum feature, it automatically adapts to fit your needs. A Windows 10 tablet on its own requires a touch-centric approach, but attaching a mouse and keyboard will shift everything to a more traditional interface. You can even attach an external monitor to your Windows 10 phone for a near-desktop experience. But it's not just the operating system; Windows Universal Apps take advantage of Continuum as well.
Xbox on Windows 10
Gaming is a big focus of Windows 10. Xbox integration allows for PC players to match up against Xbox One players on supported games, and if you have an Xbox One, you can even stream compatible titles to your PC. Native support for recording with the new Game DVR feature makes it easy to capture and share your gameplay. The new DirectX12 takes better advantage of multi-core processors, giving games a performance boost, even on older hardware. Windows 10 also features native support for virtual reality headsets, such as the Oculus Rift.

    Surface Pro 12.3" 256GB Multi-Touch Tablet (2017, Silver) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from good product but overpriced I purchased it simply because I really want a powerful Windows tablet without bloatware and good built quality. Surface Pro certainly feels that way. I also like the i5 version is now fan-less. I owned a Macbook 12 with m3 and it is fan-less. I just loved the machine without a fan. The only complaint I have is the price. It's basically $200 overpriced.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surface Pro Solves My Problems I had been using a Laptop for decades as a service tool and over the last several years received an iPad then iPad Mini but they cannot run our DB software without creating an App for it not to mention all the MS programs our company runs. So I travelled with at least two pieces at all times and to be honest I am still a big fan of Apple iPhone, iPad etc.. Now with the Surface Pro I can integrate all the MS based programs from out main PC and use it out in the field for DB entries. The detachable keyboard and switching to Surface mode is great. The screen resolution is fantastic, its very lightweight, and it has a USB 3.0 port for backups and data transfers. I also added the Mouse for CAD work which is very good design, with On Off button on bottom and built in wireless. So far the Battery life has been good and I like the magnetic Power Cord interface and Keyboard interface. A well thought out design. So now I have all the programs and communications I need on one very thin "Surface". I have not even started to use the Surface Pen which looks like more good times. The functional speed on this device is also exceptional for an i5 chip running Windows 10 Pro. Highly Recommended

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Mixed feeling with the Surface Pro 2017 i5. 8GB and 256GB After first windows update, the facial recognition function of the camera no longer working. Wasted a few days tried all the resolutions available online, no luck. It seems to be a known issue for a few years for the Intel image front camera. No definitive solution to it. I visited a local Microsoft store. They were kind enough to send me home with a brand new replacement even though I bought mine @ B&H. Kudos to Microsoft service. It freezes occasionally when running some programs, even the office 365. Overall, it is well designed piece of hardware for doing works. I did not detect any heat issue with my first SP i5. But with the new replacement, I occasionally feel a bit noticeable warmth in the back. Not hot to touch though. If you need a full desktop OS with touch screen, and ultra portable to do your job, look no further. However When come to consume contents, I am keep finding myself reaching for my iPad Pro 10.5. It does everything a iPad can do and more. But it just don't have the perfect user experience. If you are a both PC and Apple user like me, you know what I'm talking about. But you are a Mac user, wait for SP 5 to switch if you need a full desktop OS portability with touch function. More mature touch apps will also help improve the user experience, specially for converting the Mac users.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great portable computer Lightweight, beautifully crafted, plenty powerful with great battery life! I’ve got it with a pen but no keyboard cover. My main use cases: - Playing Civilization on a bus :) Wanted to do this ever since the first Surface Pro came out! It’s as great as it sounds. The battery only lasts for 3 hours though, the game is pretty power hungry - Making beautiful digital notes instead of in a paper notebook. I’d say that the feel is only 70% of the real thing, but the extra colors, endless canvas and the permanent nature of the digital notes make up for what’s lacking in tactile pleasure. Palm detection is good but sometimes ruins straight lines. I do, however, have a weird grip. - All the normal computer stuff - from surfing the Internet to engineering work - the Surface handles great, though the latter is best done on a bigger screen with proper mouse and keyboard, of course. Despite the reviews, I’ve found the Surface Pro to be comfortable on my lap. The sensor is quite responsive, and the screen is truly gorgeous. Windows Hello is really cool, too. If you’re looking for a *highly* portable PC that does all the normal PC stuff and don’t type too much on the go - this is certainly one of the best options right now
