The Intel Core i7-7660U processor has a base clock of 2.5 GHz but can boost up to 4.0 GHz when performing demanding tasks. It also has integrated Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640. The Surface Pro has 16GB of RAM, a 1TB solid state drive, a microSD media card slot, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, a 5MP front-facing camera, an 8MP rear-facing camera with 1080p HD video recording, and dual integrated microphones. Windows 10 Pro

Start Menu

After its hiatus in Windows 8, the Start Menu has returned. Utilizing a combination of the traditional menu system and Windows 8's Live Tiles, the improved Start Menu gives you more information at a glance, showing notification information alongside your applications and other pinned items.

Microsoft's digital personal assistant, Cortana can answer your questions with information gleaned from both your device and the internet at large. You can type or even talk with her, if your system has a microphone. Using her Notebook, Cortana keeps track of your needs and wants, and she learns over time to improve her information gathering skills.

Microsoft Edge

After nearly 20 years, Microsoft has finally replaced its Internet Explorer web browser. With Microsoft Edge, users can write directly on web pages and share notes with friends and colleagues. It also improves the online reading experience by adding a distraction-free mode and read-it-later functionality. Edge also has built-in Cortana integration; you can have her help you find a restaurant, make a reservation, and pull up directions without leaving your browser.

Windows Store

For Windows 10, Microsoft has unified the Windows Store. Now, apps for PCs, tablets, and phones will all be accessible from one place. And with support for Universal Apps, one version of an app can work across all your compatible devices automatically.

Windows Continuum

Windows 10 was designed for a variety of screen sizes and input styles, and with its Continuum feature, it automatically adapts to fit your needs. A Windows 10 tablet on its own requires a touch-centric approach, but attaching a mouse and keyboard will shift everything to a more traditional interface. You can even attach an external monitor to your Windows 10 phone for a near-desktop experience. But it's not just the operating system; Windows Universal Apps take advantage of Continuum as well.

Xbox on Windows 10

Gaming is a big focus of Windows 10. Xbox integration allows for PC players to match up against Xbox One players on supported games, and if you have an Xbox One, you can even stream compatible titles to your PC. Native support for recording with the new Game DVR feature makes it easy to capture and share your gameplay. The new DirectX12 takes better advantage of multi-core processors, giving games a performance boost, even on older hardware. Windows 10 also features native support for virtual reality headsets, such as the Oculus Rift.

Buyer Beware

I have a one-month-old #Surface Pro 4. The high-end one with 1TB of storage and 16gb of RAM and quad core i7 processor. I had the original one for about 18 months and it developed what is apparently a common flammable/explosive "battery bulge" problem, with yellow burn lines that form around the border of the screen. (See picture.) When I reported it to MS, they said "your safety is as risk" and promptly sent me an expensive, fire-resistant box to return it in to them. So -- a month ago -- they sent me a new replacement. Over the past week(ish), the screen on the brand new #SurfacePro4 started to flicker and I started experiencing "ghosting." The ghosting is like if you did a screen-capture and then it just stayed there obstructing your view of the screen forever, making it nearly impossible to use the tablet until you reboot the computer again until a new ghost appears. (See photo.) Sometimes it returns immediately, and sometimes it takes an hour or two. But, like the dangerous battery bulging issue, screen flicker/ghosting is another common feature of Microsoft #SurfacePro tablets. So I reached out to Microsoft yesterday to ask what to do about it. Their response, thus far, is that I needed to try to reset the tablet to factory settings (which I've done, twice) and if that doesn't work... "sorry, the defective tablet we sent you a month ago is no longer under warranty so you'll need to buy a new one." (-- paraphrased) I've now reset the tablet (twice), and I still have the flicker/ghosting issue. I feel like I've been scammed. At least with the bulging battery one with the yellow borders, I could still kind of work on it. These things are not cheap, and now they're apparently telling me my only option is to buy a new one. And now I see there's a new #SurfacePro6 being advertised. No thanks, Microsoft; if you're seriously going to make be buy a new tablet, I'll be in the market to replace everything I have with #Apple #Mac stuff and will be cancelling my #Office365 subscription, too. At this point, I'm just waiting to hear back from their support people. I've been a faithful customer of Microsoft products for nearly three decades. They need to do better.

The hard failed after 2 days in the first one and its replacement arrived with a dead battery. This is Microsoft's flagship tablet? Thank goodness for B&H's customer service making returns easy.

For shooting tethering on the road

I got an older Surface Pro 3 to shoot tethered to my Nikon outdoors. I found it hard to use in daylight. This new Surface Pro is much better in direct sunlight. I waited for the LTE model because I didn't want to use random wifi hotspots in order to keep in touch.

I’ve been a MacBook Pro user since 2011 and I’ve never had a computer that worked so well and never had any problems with it. But it’s 2018 and I thought I should try something new. I did my research and chose the Surface Pro and have been pleasantly surprised how fast and well it’s worked. So far it’s been great; I hope it does as well as my MacBook Pro over time.

Great portable computer

Lightweight, beautifully crafted, plenty powerful with great battery life! I’ve got it with a pen but no keyboard cover. My main use cases: - Playing Civilization on a bus :) Wanted to do this ever since the first Surface Pro came out! It’s as great as it sounds. The battery only lasts for 3 hours though, the game is pretty power hungry - Making beautiful digital notes instead of in a paper notebook. I’d say that the feel is only 70% of the real thing, but the extra colors, endless canvas and the permanent nature of the digital notes make up for what’s lacking in tactile pleasure. Palm detection is good but sometimes ruins straight lines. I do, however, have a weird grip. - All the normal computer stuff - from surfing the Internet to engineering work - the Surface handles great, though the latter is best done on a bigger screen with proper mouse and keyboard, of course. Despite the reviews, I’ve found the Surface Pro to be comfortable on my lap. The sensor is quite responsive, and the screen is truly gorgeous. Windows Hello is really cool, too. If you’re looking for a *highly* portable PC that does all the normal PC stuff and don’t type too much on the go - this is certainly one of the best options right now

WIFI speed is essential; anyone know which WIFI chipset is installed?
Asked by: Mark L.
The Wi-Fi is 802.11/AC so its as modern as you can get. The actual speed you get from Wi-Fi will be largely dependent on factors such as distance from signal, interference, throughput of switch/router rather than the mfg of the chipset
