Fujinon MK Overview

The Fujinon MK18-55 & MK50-135 Lens Kit from B&H includes two lightweight, T2.9 zoom lenses for E-mount cameras with a Super-35mm-sized sensor. The lenses feature independent focus, iris, and zoom rings, approximately 200° of focus rotation, 0.8 MOD cine-style gears, a clickless iris, and a macro mode. They are color matched to one-another as well as to other Fujinon lenses, such as the HK, ZK, and XK series.

Fujinon MK18-55mm T2.9 Lens (Sony E Mount)

The Fujinon MK18-55mm T2.9 Lens in E Mount is a lightweight cine-style zoom lens for E-mount cameras with a Super 35mm-sized sensor. It features a mechanical design with three independent lens control rings: focus, iris, and zoom. Each ring incorporates a cine-style gear with a 0.8 MOD for interfacing with standard cine -style lens accessories. The focus ring features approximately 200° of rotation, which provides room or precise focus pulls, and the iris is clickless, enabling smooth iris pulls. The lens also incorporates a macro mode for close focusing capabilities.

The lens is color matched to other Fujinon lenses such as the HK, ZK, and XK series, which enables smooth intercutting between lenses. The 85mm front enables use with many cine-style matte boxes via use of optional step up rings (rings not included). The lens weighs only 2.16 pounds, which is fairly light for a cinema zoom that holds focus and aperture throughout the focal length range. It is designed for camera's with a Sony E mount, so it has a short flange focal distance, but the lens allows for flange focal distance adjustment so you can fine tune it to the camera you are using the lens on.

T2.9 to T22 aperture with 9 iris blades for attractive bokeh
The 28.5mm diameter image circle covers the 3-perf super 35 format with a 16:9 aspect ratio
Industry standard 0.8 film pitch gears for focus, zoom, and iris control
The gear rings positions for focus, zoom, and iris are located at the same position on both lenses in the MK series, making switching between the two zooms quick as you don't have to adjust the position of lens accessories
Both lenses in the MK series have the same weight and length so here is no need to rebalance your camera when you change from one lens to the other
200° focus barrel rotation
No shims are required to adjust the flange focal distance as this lens has a built-in adjustment mechanism
Macro focus function available

How would these lenses perform on a Sony Alpha ...

How would these lenses perform on a Sony Alpha a7R IV, say compared to the 2 Sony video lens, ie FE PZ 28-135 F4 OSS and E PZ 18-105 F4 G OSS?
Asked by: Chad
Both the Fujinon MK18-55mm T2.9 Lens (Sony E Mount) and the Fujinon MK50-135mm T2.9 Lens (Sony E Mount) would be compatible for use with the Sony Alpha a7R IV Mirrorless Digital Cameras. While I have not seen optical performance comparison tests between the Fujinon lenses and the Sony lenses, both would be compatible for use on the a7R, and should have similar build quality and performance.

question

Would this kit on a Sony FS7 give the same practical focal length equivalent as a Canon 24-105 + 70-200 with a speed booster adapter?
Asked by: Mark E.
The Fuji lens kit give you an 18mm to 135mm focal range. The Canon 24-105mm lens, if you multiply by the Metabones Canon EF Lens to Sony E Mount T CINE Speed Booster ULTRA 0.71x (Fifth Generation) B&H # MEMBSPEFEBT3 0.71 factor gives you an effective 17mm to 95.85mm. So you get 1 more mm at the wide end, which helps, but you lose at the tele end a fair amount. I would say this is a good, affordable solution until you can get the Fujinon's.

question

Is it officially rated by Fujinon to shoot 4k?
Asked by: Sam
Fujinon does not list these lenses officially as 4K. They are, of course, used on 4K cameras and no one is complaining. I suspect some compromise was taken so that the price point could be reached.

The Tilta Nucleus-M Wireless Lens Control System would be a great option to control the these lenses, BH #TINUCLEUSM. https://bhpho.to/2vbeAxo

question

Is this lens parfocal?
Asked by: Nicholas S.
Yes, both lenses in the the Fujinon MK18-55 & MK50-135 T2.9 Cine-Style Lens Kit are parfocal. Generally speaking, cinema manual focus zoom lenses like these are parfocal whereas still auto focus zooms are not.
