Lilliput BM150 Overview

Built into a hard case, the Lilliput BM150-6G is a 15" native UHD 4K monitor useful for both studio and field situations. The full capacity of the 3840 x 2160 UHD resolution 8-bit panel can be driven at up to 30 fps by any of the three HDMI 1.4 inputs and the 6G-SDI input, or up to 60 fps by the single HDMI 2.0 input. DVI and VGA inputs are available as well. Video signals input via any of these ports will be properly scaled to fit the entire screen. Analog audio from the RCA inputs or embedded digital audio from video inputs can be heard using the monitor's built-in speakers or the 3.5mm headphone output.

For power, this monitor accepts a wide range of voltages ranging from 12 to 24 VDC. In the studio, the included power supply plugs the BM150-4K into the wall, and the 75/100mm VESA mount can be utilized for mounting on a stand. The included tally connector passes tally information through to the monitor when connected to a switcher. While in the field, the monitor will accept battery power via the built-in V-mount plate. It can be stood up vertically using the rubber feet built into the monitor's hard case, and a sunshade is included for increased visibility outdoors.

Monitoring Tools

 • Peaking
 • Blue-only
 • Image rotation/flip
 • Overscan
 • Underscan
 • Image freeze
 • Aspect ratio selection
 • Screen markers
 • Color temperature adjustment

Assignable Buttons

Using the four assignable buttons on the front panel, you can quickly turn any four essential monitoring tools on and off without venturing into the monitor's menu system.

Carry-On Enclosure

The included hard case/enclosure improves the robustness of the monitor's metal chassis, useful when venturing outside controlled environments. A rear opening gives easy access to all the monitor's ports and accessory mounts.

Supports Wireless HDMI (WHDI) Technology

With a separately available WHDI receiver, the BM230-4K can accept wireless HDMI signals from up to 50' away for a hassle-free cordless connection. With the WHDI system in place one transmitter can broadcast to multiple receivers, so no splitter is required for multi-monitor viewing.

Lilliput BM150 Reviews

Best unit at this price point, but not without drawbacks.

Solidly built, nice monitor. I wish Lilliput could solve a few quirks. Quirk 1--the included 4-pin power connector is straight (not 90 degree) and therefore must be removed before putting the case covers in place. Even though they've designed a clever little mounting bracket for the brick power supply so it can remain attached to the back side of the screen, you still have to unplug it from the unit before packing up, a real annoyance for something that could've been easily solved with a right-angle connector. The menu structure is not intuitive at all, and the unit defaults to overscanning the source. That means that fresh from the factory the unit will not display a 4K HDMI source correctly, hiding 10% of the image on all sides. Dive into the manual to learn how to disable it, because just going through the menus on the screen didn't readily offer a solution. Lastly it's super weird that it will display an HDMI2.0 signal at 4K60 but is still limited to 3G SDI. Why not display 12G as well? My suspicion is that this hardware will, in fact, do it--or maybe could do it with a very minor upgrade--but the manufacturer has withheld that feature for a future model...the way Apple has historically developed multiple iPhone technologies simultaneously but only releasing each phone generation with a single major feature additions (ie, camera, GPS, etc) so as to compel consumers to buy the next version before their current phone actually wears out.

This is a good deal for a basic location / set monitor. Not the super color correct of the high priced units but plenty good enough for general location shoots and director reviews. It would be nice if it could handle/load LUTs but at this price point I can't really complain too much. Well made and the case is bullet proof.

I would give it five stars, but it even though I LOVE this monitor, it has a few small ticks against it. PROS: Everything you read about the specs is good. Switching from full screen to 4-up takes a few seconds, not a problem. Color is good, sharpness is good... really improved my stationary video work. Cons: The cons are few, but they might make a difference to some. First off, The photo isn't true. It does not come with a screen protector as shown in the photos. The holes are there, but there is no plexiglass (or glass) shield mounted to those holes. Secondly, Buy a stand mount for the VESA holes. This means the that you need to relocate the V-mount battery plate (not much of an issue). The monitor has no ability to be tilted or positioned comfortably, so it only stands straight up. Mounting it to a stand gives you a world of options. I had used a large spring clamp to suspend the monitor by its top handle... the weight of the monitor caused the top plate (of the case) to flex, which caused the sides of the 19" rack to squeeze inward, which caused the metal facia around the monitor to bend a little and bulge outward. Bummer. So the VESA mount is crucial. Finally: You might not be able switch from full screen to four up WHILE RECORDING and viewing via HDMI. If you do, you stand a chance of stopping a camera from recording. My Panasonic DVX200 has no issue, but my Canon 5d MK III will stop recording when switching from full screen to 4-up. I guess it gets some kind of signal back via HDMI that causes it to stop recording. ALSO, the 5dMKIII does not show the full screen, the monitor slightly crops the sides of the screen. It is POSSIBLE that I have missed a setting in the monitor, but usually there is a special setting in monitors to deal with specific issues related to resolution switching when viewing during recording. This monitor does not appear to have that. ANYWAY, sounds like a lot of complaining, but I WOULD DEFINITELY BUY THIS MONITOR AGAIN. The small issues (that take a long time to describe) don't deter from the great investment this monitor presents.

question

Lilliput's website lists this monitor as having PEAKING. Can anybody confirm this? ...and more importantly can they confirm it indeed works? Thanks
Asked by: Anonymous
Lilliput's website does indeed say the Lilliput Electronics 15.6 has peaking. Lilliput is a hightly reputable company so it would behoove them to be accurate in their listing. If not, they would lose sales in a very competative market. See here: http://lilliputweb.net/bm150-4k.html

Can I use the battery plate and the vesa mount simultaneously?
Asked by: Nikhil
You can use the battery plate, but it cannot be connected directly to the monitor when it is used with a VESA mount. It would only be able to be connected through the XLR port for power.
