what I love most of this camera is how compact and easy to use is. I had the previous model for about 7 years, took it for several months long sea kayak expeditions in patagonia, juts take the picture and stow it inside my pfd, was always handy and ready. drop it a few times and only got a few scratches.

Takes great pictures and is built tough. I work outside and could easily take 100+ pictures a day. I haven't had a problem yet.

Keep Expectations Low for  Snapbridge.  Nikon can do better

I have used Nikon equipment for decades because of the high quality. I was hoping for same quality in the W300 camera that I purchased. But my gripe is about the Snapbridge application for IOS. I have had enough tries at getting this Snapbridge to function that it is obvious that this software product does not work. Simple as that. 2 out of 10 tries I could get the BT to connect. After 10+ tries, I still have not been able to get the WI-Fi connection set up. The iPhone see the camera, but the Snapbridge application does not. The idea of using phones and tablets as backups to the days shooting is an excellent idea, but clear that Nikon software development does not know how to do it. Here is the solution that I will be using, mostly because of ease of use and reliability. I do have an Apple Lightning to SD Card Reader. ($29) Place the camera SD card in the reader and plug the reader into the lightning port on the IOS device. Then open the ‘Files’ utility and locate the Nikon SD and photo directory. ‘Select All’ on the photos and copy to the local download folder. Sort them all out later.

Look to be a rugged little camera.

I am still getting up to speed on the W300, and liking it. It does have simple point and shoot that does very well. And like all Nikons, it has many excellent features,, if the user can find them. Keep looking and try them all. I am looking forward for a trip to Jamaica when I can get the camera in the water.

Its a great little camera for hiking, canoeing.

I had the W100 model, used it fore about 5 years or so. used it for many out door activities like mountain biking, hiking, snorkeling and boating. It was pretty good but the W300 is a MUCH improved camera. Better image quality ,better water seals, longer zoom range. Video is pretty darn good for a little do it all camera like this. Very good color and sharpness. I have not had a chance to use it underwater yet. I have been a full time pro photographer for many years and am use to using much more expensive and larger equipment, I am very pleased with the image quality, features and build quality. Note: very important! Make sure battery compartment door is very dry before opening and seals are very Clean and dry before closing. I loaned out my W100, he left one grain of sand on the battery door seal. The W100 is an orange paper weight now.

Best Go-To underwater Camera

This is my fourth Coolpix-I love them and use them exclusively for underwater photography! It's rare to have a camera that requires no housing up to 100' which is all a recreational diver needs. I carry this in my BCD pocket and pull it out regularly when my larger and overpriced bigger camera system is too big to get into a certain area. Also, when I want video, I whip it out of my pocket for amazing video--surpasses GoPro quality and much easier to use.

Step down from the Coolpix AW120 camera

I purchased the Coolpix AW120 in 2014 and now some 7 years later the Coolpix W300 has no improvements in the sensor or the LCD screen and no longer provide Raw image capture. The AW120 provided the option of Raw image capture and made it easy to make white balance adjustments. The AW120 had a f/2.8 lens and so was faster than the newer W300 camera.

Is there a focus lock (for hyperfocal distance) for fast shooting of birds flying by?
Asked by: Charles
The only way to lock the focus is by pressing the shutter halfway and holding it. But you can only lock the focus for one shot. An interchangeable lens camera would be a better option for locking the focus.

How fast is the auto-focus?
Asked by: Charles
The Nikon COOLPIX W300 Digital Camera uses contrast-detection autofocus. While it is not the fastest point-and-shoot camera in regards to autofocus, focus is relatively fast and is similar in performance to other point-and-shoot cameras that use contrast-detection autofocus.

question

Anybody shot on Creative Timelapse mode? Could tell me about final resolution of video? because it is 4k but other models like B700 not make Timelapse videos on 4k, it is just 1080p.Thanks
Asked by: Valentin
When the Frame Rate setting of the movie menu is set to 30 fps (60p/60p), 300 images are captured and saved with 1080/30p. When set to 25 fps (25p/50p), 250 images are captured and saved with 1080/25p. While the final file size is not indicated, the resolution for in-camera Time-Lapse images would be 1080p, not 4K.
