Dynamic Balance Acoustic Array

Dynamic Balance is designed to ensure a rich, clean, full-range sound, no matter what you're listening to. It analyzes the speaker's electro-acoustic and mechanical system for improved material selection and more efficient geometry, then pinpoints and eliminates issues that reduce speaker performance before they become a part of the finished product.

High-Resolution Audio Performance

The Terylene dome tweeter is designed to deliver clear and detailed high frequency response at up to 40 kHz for a realistic reproduction of vocals and instruments.

Polypropylene Mid-Range Drivers

Mica-reinforced polypropylene cones with butyl rubber surrounds, ceramic motor structures, and high-temperature Conex fiber spiders combine to create drivers of enhanced efficiency, for clean, clear bass, augmented linearity, lower distortion, and higher durability.

Polk Power Port Deep Bass Technology

The Power Port is designed to smoothly transition the air flow into your listening area. It also extends the overall bass port, providing greater surface area to help eliminate turbulence and distortion, for bigger, more musical, deep bass impact.

Enhanced Sensitivity and Compatibility

Whether you're connecting it to a new digital processor or your vintage rig, the S50 is designed to provide sound reproduction that's spacious, clear, enveloping, and realistic. Plus, it's compatible with many Dolby and DTS surround sound technologies.

Three-Driver Cascading Tapered Crossover Array

The crossover array is designed to provide a lifelike soundstage wherever you are in the listening room, helping to eliminate a solitary sweet spot.

Anti-Diffraction Magnetic Grille

The grille is computer modeled for a precision fit and designed to minimize sonic interference.

Gold-Plated 5-Way Binding Posts

The binding posts are designed to help ensure the most direct, loss-less connection possible.

Acoustically Inert Enclosure

The cabinet is designed to be rigid and acoustically inert to help reduce unwanted internal standing waves to provide less audible coloration.

Dual-Floor-Compatible Feet

The feet are designed for enhanced stability and bass coupling to both carpeted and hard floors.

The S55 is designed with the same components throughout to help achieve seamless speaker-to-speaker blending effects in multi-channel systems.

Polk Audio S55 Reviews

S55 towers

Great soundstage, warm with balanced high end and powerful but musical bass. My Denon AVR x2500h is quite adequate. Can do without a sub for music. Wish they had the white ones, the craftsmanship is excellent. You can pay more but will not get much more with more expensive towers. S 55s are just the right tradeoff between size and sound quality. The 6.5” drivers do make a big difference. Paired with a S30 is just perfect.

Polk S55 - Highly Recommended!

I purchased the Polk S55's in 2018 and have enjoyed them a lot since (currently 2020). My use is 100% music and I listen to a wide variety with them including pop, hip hop, instrumental, country, vocal/classical crossover, rock, alternative rock/grunge, and heavy metal. The sound is clean and clear with no perceptible distortion and these speakers handle all those genres well. The highs are detailed but not harsh like other brands at the same price point, they just hit that sweet. I am fully addicted to the music they play. They are good enough, that live music recordings sound like you're there to me. Vocal music is just incredible on them. They play mid frequencies well and the cross overs balance the soundstage well. I have them bi-wired and it seemed to me that the highs were just a little more detailed by doing that, but the difference is minor. Base is adequate, but I use a dedicated sealed powered sub, which increases my enjoyment. Music is best in 2.1 mode with my setup but I do use other modes frequently. I found best results when I cross them over at about 60 Hz with the sub but they can go lower with no problem, I just love the extra base from the sub. The room I have them in is large 25'x30', and they fill the room with music very well, no problem. I run them on a receiver that supports 145 watts per channel, but I feel like they could do better with a little more power because of the drop off in sound quality when run in different modes and when I fiddle with the crossover point. That probably has more to do with my receiver than the speakers (next in line for an upgrade). I run them with the S30 center, and S15 bookshelves when listening in other modes and the system matches really well. I am all about performance, but they look nice too. If Polk's Signatures line up with your budget, I highly recommend them.

New Speakers

I bought a pair of these to replace my old Polk Audio TSi300 floor standing speakers (about 8 years old). The difference is night and day. Talk about bass, I had to go into my AV receiver and turn the base down. In my opinion, you do not need a sub woofer with these. They sound great and look great. The classic brown walnut color I purchased was really darker than the photos. I actually thought I had received the black ones when I unboxed them. Polk Audio speakers are great. If you have a small to average size room, get a pair of these S55. You won't be sorry.

Clear and clean for the highs and mids. I feel like I'm sitting at a live concert when I'm listening to music. A subwoofer is needed for the lows though.

So far so great

Have about 20 hours of playtime on this and it just keeps sounding better and better. Great full sound without sacrificing midrange.

S55’s great speakers!

These speakers are great. No sub needed, plenty of bass. Very sensitive, I have them bi-wired with a Sony STR-DN1080 and the Polk S35 center channel. They sound great at medium to high volume, lower volumes, lose some detail, but I think that’s more the Sony receiver. If I had them hooked up to a nice integrated amplifier, that would probably help, but for me this is a great fit because I use the center channel for television. By the way sports and movies sound amazing as well! They’re not rear ported, but with the power port on the bottom, you can put the speaker basically right up against the wall and it sounds great. Very stylish with rounded edges and built-in feet. Very happy with my purchase!

No port is screened. If mice wanted to get in, they would find other means.

Is it vinyl or real wood veneer?

Is it vinyl or real wood veneer?
Asked by: Joel
This speaker uses a MDF cabinet. Polk makes no mention of the material used to give it the wood look, whether vinyl or wood veneer overlay it would have no impact on tone.
