Gitzo 100-Year Anniversary Overview

This limited-edition, magnesium-alloy and carbon fiber Anniversary Edition Tripod commemorates Gitzo's 2017 centennial. Only 1,917 100-Year Anniversary Edition Tripods will be produced, in honor of 1917, the year Gitzo was founded. Included with each 100-Year Anniversary Edition Tripod is an anniversary booklet, an authentication certificate, a hangtag identifying the Gitzo craftsperson who assembled the tripod, plus a leather tripod strap.

Constructed from magnesium-alloy and carbon fiber for durability while remaining lightweight, the 100-Year Anniversary Edition Tripod supports up to 22.0 lb, measures 16.9" when folded, and can be positioned to a maximum height of 55.5", or 64.96" with its push-and-pull, rapid center column fully raised. Its 4-section legs each feature an independent spread, a 2-position angle lock, and twist locks for rapid deployment. When the center column and the legs are retracted, the tripod stands at 16.73". To enhance stability on a wide variety of surfaces, each leg includes a rubber foot.

Cameras, lenses, or sport optics that are compatible with a 1/4"-20 mount can be connected to the Arca-type quick release plate, which is secured to the tripod's ball head using a quick release clamp. The ball head is also engraved in celebration of Gitzo's 100-year anniversary, is removable, provides up to a 90° tilt for portrait orientation, 360° of independent rotation, and can be locked into place along its range of movement.

For added versatility, a short, secondary center column is provided, facilitating low-angle photography. When installed, the tripod can be lowered to a height of 9.25".

This tripod has a folded length of 16.9 inches, and the Series 1 padded Gitzo bag (GC1202T) external length is 17 inches. Has anyone verified that this will actually fit?
Asked by: Philip
I have the gc1202t bag and the 100 year anniversary tripod. It fits like a glove. At first it seems like not going to fit. But zip it anyway. And like magic. It closed.

question

Is there going to be a choice just for the tripod and no ballhead? Will there be a video showing the different ways of locking and using the legs and finally what magnesium allloy offers more than just fiber? Anyone that answers these questions... thank you for your time.
Asked by: Sotirios V.
This is an 100 year anniversary product and only 1917 are being made. They all come with the ballhead. Youtube has many video's showing similar Gitzo tripods and the legs being deployed. You may be able to find a video with this specific tripod but any of the recent Gitzo Traveler series tripods will work in the same manner. Carbon fiber tripods typically use composite construction in which carbon fiber tubes are used in conjunction with magnesium or some other type of metal to make the spider and attachment collars on the primary legs.

I weighed the tripod w/supplied ballhead. I get 2.9 lbs. If I add the supplied Arca Swiss compatible quick release plate, it measures 3.00 lbs.

Could we have more info about the ballhead and equivalent tripod and ballheads in the current Gitzo lineup?
Asked by: Alain
From what I can gather, I believe it to be similar but not identical to the Gitzo GT1545T Series 1 Traveler Carbon Fiber Tripod with Center Ball Head. An obvious difference is the leg angle locking mechanism (near the tripod spider on each leg) which is much larger and would appear to offer easier adjustment with gloves on. The finish of the ball head and spider is flat black (anodised?) rather than the "speckled" finish on "standard" Traveler Gitzo's.

Does this tripod fit in the Gitzo Century ...

Does this tripod fit in the Gitzo Century Backpack Tripod storage area? Gitzo indicates compatibility with Series 0 and 1 tripods or similar sized tripods. It would seem like a major miss if this wasn't compatible. BH sales indicate it should fit - anybody actually have this combo?
Asked by: Ty
I'll answer my own question - I called Gitzo tech support and they indicated that yes, the 100-Year Anniversary Edition Tripod with Ball Head fits in the tripod carrier of the Gitzo Century Backpack.
