Blind Spot Gear Tile Light Solo overview

  • 1Description

Featuring an equivalent light output of a 150W tungsten light fixture, this Blind Spot Gear Tile Light Solo takes advantage of single surface emitter technology, which uses high-density blue LEDs to excite a phosphor coated diffusion sheet producing a soft bright white output with a 120° beam spread and a color temperature of 5700K. It is capable of flicker free dimming from 0 to 100%, and the fixture's integrated on/off button is also a 5-step dimmer control. An analog thumbwheel remote dimmer plugs into the side of the fixture, and the 6 embedded LEDs on the side of the fixture indicate the light's power.

The fixture draws a mere 22W and can be powered remotely by a 3.5mm connector or by an L-series type battery. The fixture is daylight balanced at 5700K, and it includes a CTO correction gel that attaches to the fixtures emitting surface using static electricity, so no clips or frames are needed. Two 1/4"-20 threaded mounting holes, one on the bottom and one on the side enable mounting of the fixture, or can be used to attach accessories to the fixture itself. An included carry bag protects your fixture during transport and storage.

The SSE (single source emitter) works in a similar fashion as remote phosphor technology, with high-density blue emitters exciting phosphors embedded in a sheet of diffusion. However, the Tile Light Solo is much thinner than traditional remote phosphor fixtures, and it features a 120° beam spread.
The fixture can be dimmed from 100 to 0% brightness without suffering from flicker at normal and even high-speed shooting.
The back of the fixture features two 1/4"-20 threaded holes, which can be used to mount accessories including the L-series type battery plate. Blind Spot Gear recommends mounting the dimmer knob to the side of the unit, and not the back.
An included ball joint accessory shoe to 1/4"-20 adapter enables mounting the fixture to a camera with an accessory shoe.
The included power supply supports international voltage and frequencies, and comes with interchangeable plugs.
The included charging plate connects to an included USB cable and permits charging of the battery by USB port.

Blind Spot Gear Tile Light Solo reviews

Tile Light Solo is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brighter & it'll blind you! I give it 5 starts even if the lowest setting is already super powerful & with my A7s this is definitively an overkill.. would have like to be able to have something a little less bright almost! It's pretty much as bright as my Aputure Amaran hr672 at a fraction of the size. (No Scientific test here) Built is exceptionally sturdy, form factor makes it an incredibly essential tool in a good shooter travel bag... As a counter light kick on top of a camera this is potentially amazing! (I can see almost replacing a small reflector) If you can afford it you won't be disappointed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A real problem solver I received a demo from Billy(owner of Blind Spot Gear) and found these lights to be fantastic. The build quality was on par with other professional lights, the light quality is terrific and portability is terrific. We used them with the supplied Sony-style battery(which is included btw) and used it for a few hours(turning the light off of course). Blind Spot Gear also includes plenty of mounting options, we had no issues. We used them on a food shoot as a backlight and is was more than enough. I plan to get 4 of these for travel once they get back in stock.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Small light and... different The size is worth mentioningbecausea lot of these pro-grade on-camera lights are huge and bulky and simply didn' t think about the run-and-gun type of shooter. But this one is light and is great for an on-camera light when you simply can't set anything up. The long cable that is attached for a dimmer knob is strange but after realizing its long because it allows me to put it all the way down on my hand grip is money. Otherwise, i leave it off and use the push button. The CTO gel is cool and all since its a statichold but the second I'm not using it I have a hard time putting it anywhere since its just a flimsy piece of plastic waiting to get crushed or lost. I'm still waiting for my defuser and if that does what I think it does this will be my go-to for all my cameras for sure.
