Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 Overview

By B&H Photo's

Characterized by apt focusing speed and image stabilization, the Canon EF-mount SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 from Tamron is a revised fast standard zoom covering a versatile wide-angle to portrait-length range. A sophisticated optical design with two extra refractive elements, three low dispersion elements, three glass-molded aspherical elements, and one hybrid aspherical element helps to suppress aberrations and distortion throughout the zoom range while eBAND and BBAR coatings have been applied to individual elements to control lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity. Additionally, the lens is moisture-resistant and has a fluorine coating on the front element to enable its use in trying environmental conditions.

Standard zoom is designed for full-frame Canon EF-mount DSLRs, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 38.6-112mm equivalent focal length range.
Bright f/2.8 constant maximum aperture affords consistent brightness throughout the zoom range, and benefits working in difficult lighting conditions.
Two XR (extra refractive) and three LD (low dispersion) elements are featured in the optical design to noticeably limit color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity, color fidelity, and apparent sharpness.
Three glass-molded aspherical elements and one hybrid aspherical element help to reduce chromatic aberrations and distortion throughout the zoom range to deliver notable sharpness and accurate rendering.
Both eBAND and BBAR coatings have been applied to suppress ghosting and lens flare for improved contrast when working in backlit conditions.
VC image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by up to 5 stops or more effective handheld shooting in difficult lighting conditions. Separate VC modes are also available to suit various styles of shooting: Mode 1 is a balanced setting for general use, and promotes both a stabilized viewfinder image and stabilized results, while Mode 2 is designed exclusively for panning movements.
An Ultrasonic Silent Drive autofocus motor delivers quick and precise focusing performance to suit working with moving subjects. This motor also affords full-time manual focus control, and it is possible to focus on subjects as close as 1.25' away.
A moisture-resistant construction benefits this lens' use in inclement conditions, and a fluorine coating has also been applied to the front lens element to protect against dust, dirt, and smearing.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.
Compatible with optional TAP-in Console for fine-tuning select focusing adjustments and for updating lens firmware.

Will this lens work correctly with the newest firmware update Firmware Version 1.0.8.1 on the Canon C70?
Asked by: Keif
According to users on the Canon cinema camera Facebook page this lens is no longer fully functional with the introduction of firmware 1.0.8 on the c70. Tamron and Canon need to put aside their differences and communicate on these matters for the sake of their respective customers.

- Does Canon 5D4 recognizes it and allows to Enable "Lens Aberration Correction" features? (I know it's designed for Canon lenses but I had a Tamron recognized and these features worked very well) - Is it smooth pulling focus on Video with DualPixelAF and touching LCD screen on the 5D4? Thank you very much!

Does the cont.autofocus work on Sony A7III in video mode with Sigma mount converter MC-11 Canon EF-E ?
Asked by: Roberto
The focus is not consistent with the adapter. It would be better to get the Tamron 28-75 which is made for the Sony mount. Please take a look at the following link: https://bhpho.to/3an5E7U

Will his work with canon 5D Mark ll ?
Asked by: Steve
The lens mount is compatable with a 5d mkII for sure. I'm not sure how auto focus will play. This feels less sharp on my 5d mkIII than the G1 version of this lens. Auto focus itself does not work at all on the Canon C200. I've always like Tamron, but I've had better luck with the G1 versions of their lenses.

Does this lens fit the canon eos 90D?
Asked by: Yanilette
Yes. As an EF mount lens, it will also mount without an adapter to an EF-S lens mount (as used on the 90D) and operate as it should. I have used it on my 80D with no problems.
