Standard zoom is designed for FX-format Nikon F-mount DSLRs, however can also be used with DX models where it provides a 36-105mm equivalent focal length range.
Bright f/2.8 constant maximum aperture affords consistent brightness throughout the zoom range, and benefits working in difficult lighting conditions.
Two XR (extra refractive) and three LD (low dispersion) elements are featured in the optical design to noticeably limit color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity, color fidelity, and apparent sharpness.
Three glass-molded aspherical elements and one hybrid aspherical element help to reduce chromatic aberrations and distortion throughout the zoom range to deliver notable sharpness and accurate rendering.
Both eBAND and BBAR coatings have been applied to suppress ghosting and lens flare for improved contrast when working in backlit conditions.
VC image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by up to 5 stops or more effective handheld shooting in difficult lighting conditions. Separate VC modes are also available to suit various styles of shooting: Mode 1 is a balanced setting for general use, and promotes both a stabilized viewfinder image and stabilized results, while Mode 2 is designed exclusively for panning movements.
An Ultrasonic Silent Drive autofocus motor delivers quick and precise focusing performance to suit working with moving subjects. This motor also affords full-time manual focus control, and it is possible to focus on subjects as close as 1.25' away.
A moisture-resistant construction benefits this lens' use in inclement conditions, and a fluorine coating has also been applied to the front lens element to protect against dust, dirt, and smearing.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.
Compatible with optional TAP-in Console for fine-tuning select focusing adjustments and for updating lens firmware.

My favorite new lens

This is my favorite lens to use now! I shoot a lot of car shows and this lens is perfect for getting close but wide enough to get the whole car without looking like a fisheye lens. It has excellent bokeh for close-up shots of hood ornaments and emblems. It is wide enough that I can sit in the seat and get shots of the entire dash and zoom in close to get one individual gauge. It's perfectly versatile for what I need!

I dropped my Tamron 24-70mm and had multiple headshot sessions coming up. I had been wanting to upgrade to the G2, but just didn't justify the additional expense... that is until I dropped my lens. B&H had the lens in stock, needed their credit card to get it, and so... I ordered it. This lens is incredibly sharp. I couldn't be happier. I'd say if you have the previous version (non-G2), go ahead... drop it, then order the G2 lens. You will be so, so happy!

so far so good

just tried out this lens after i used the tap in module to calibrate the focus. I still have the earlier version which I i had to return for service due to autofocus and vibration control problems and even after, i could not fine tine the lens as it was continuously over -20 out of bound. This G2 lens is sharp and the autofocus and the vibration control are much better.

Needed a lens for indoor Sports

I replaced the kit lens that came with my Nikon D7200 as I needed something with a 2.8 aperture for low-light indoor sports. This does the trick at a much more affordable price than other lenses.

Great results

Using this lens with a Canon 5d mk iv and getting great results as expected. Not a full test in all conditions but so far excellent sharpness, color, and contrast. Mostly landscape so far. Very satisfied. VC worked well with 1/15 shutter speed handheld.

Beware of used stuff!

I purchased this lens to be used on my Z6 camera (via FTZ adapter). Trying to save some money, I choose the used one, which B&H described as 9+ (very little or no wear) condition. Upon arriving I made a dozen of test shots and found all of them really noisy. The further investigation revealed the lens increases ISO almost twice. To separate the camera and adapter, I put everything on tripod, switch camera to full manual, then shot with Tamron, and Sigma 24-70/2.8 (F mount) lens (both with adapter). All photos taken with used Tamron were significantly darker. Looks like, for some unknown reason, used Tamron lens sends to camera wrong data about diaphragm opening. Unfortunately, the B&H response was offensively unfair. Even when I ship (for my expenses) that lens back in 2 hours, they deducted 13% from refund. For the mistake they caused. To me, who used to be their loyal customer for 12 years... Beware of used stuff!

Great lens but hadn't realized how heavy it is. Works great, very sharp.
