Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 Lens for Nikon F
Key Features
  • F-Mount Lens/FX Format
  • Aperture Range: f/2.8 to f/22
  • Two XR Elements, Three LD Elements
  • Four Aspherical Elements
Characterized by apt focusing speed and image stabilization, the Nikon F-mount SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 from Tamron is a revised fast standard zoom covering a versatile wide-angle to portrait-length range. A sophisticated optical design with two extra refractive elements, three low dispersion elements, three glass-molded aspherical elements, and one hybrid aspherical element helps to suppress aberrations and distortion throughout the zoom range while eBAND and BBAR coatings have been applied to individual elements to control lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity. Balancing its optical attributes, this lens also utilizes a USM autofocus motor to deliver notably quick, quiet, and precise focusing performance that suits both stills and video applications. Also, 5-stop-effective Vibration Compensation helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting in difficult lighting conditions. Additionally, the lens is moisture-resistant and has a fluorine coating on the front element to enable its use in trying environmental conditions.

Is it risky to get it refurbished for 3 months of store warranty?
Asked by: Elizabeth
the new lens offers a 6 year warranty. If getting a refurbished you should get extra insurance as long as the whole cost less than a new lens

I am thinking of replacing my Nikon AF-S NIKKOR ...

I am thinking of replacing my Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8G ED Lens (non-VR) with this Tamron 24-70 f/2.8. I am regularly getting slightly blurry shorts when hand held even during daylight shooting. On a tripod the Nikon is superb but I hate missing shots. Does this switch make sense to others that have this lens? I have several g2 Tamron lenses and love them so I think I am happy with this decision. I shoot a wide variety of subjects and the 24-70 is one of my more commonly used lenses (which means too many blurry photos!).
Asked by: Christian
Christian, I have been happy with my Tamron 24-70 f/2.8. It came with an attachment that enabled me to set sharp focus at various lens mm settings, which took about 1 hour. Just returning from a trip to Hawaii and took this as my only lens, handheld every shot and had very few images that were not sharp. Had lens for over a year and my main complaint is that it is large and heavy for walking around for long lengths of time. I don't know how the weight and size compares with your Nikkor, but you might factor that in your decision. Hope that helps you decide.

I'm considering this lens for my D850 and 750 ...

I'm considering this lens for my D850 and 750 bodies, but a friend just received one for a D750 and the autofocus is not working out of the box. The aperture cannot be adjusted above the maximum 2.8. Shouldn't this lens work right out of the box or are adjustments required in-camera to make it functional? I suspect he's received a bad copy, but perhaps someone else has had a similar experience.
Asked by: Colin
He must have received a bad copy, I have owned this lens and know several others who have used this lens and it is a great alternative to the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8.

Has anyone actually used this lens with a Nikon Z body? Does it work? (I know it’s supposed to work, but sometimes 3rd party lenses do not.)
Asked by: Daniel
No and then yes. This did not originally work with my Nikon Z7 + FTZ adapter. I subsequently purchased a Tamron TAP-in Console for Nikon F Lenses (B&H $50.00 as of May 2019). Using the TAP-in Console, I was able to upgrade the lens' firmware. It worked fine after that.
