Vanguard VEO 2 265CB Tripod with BH-50 Ball H... Reviews

Lightweight, sturdy tripod full of features

This tripod is surprisingly light but as sturdy as you would want. The head is very easy to adjust and I really like the ability to make the head downward facing for macro shots. The legs are easy to adjust for height and tighten quickly. The included bag fits well with a good shoulder sling. I hardly needed to refer to the directions as it is mostly self-explanatory. The carbon fiber seems very strong and I expect many years of use from this tripod. I might mention that I had an older metal tripod that now seems like an obsolete boat anchor.

Light weight and pretty stable

I've only used it a couple of times, but it seems to work well. I'm used to flip locks so it will take time to get used to the twist locks. Several times I found they weren't tight enough. It is small enough to fit in my backpack and pretty light.

Great for travel

The tripod is very compact and lightweight which is great for travel. It is not the sturdiest but holds the camera very well in place.

Great tripod for DSLR...but

I love the lightweight carbon fiber and the smoothness of the friction ball head. Also, the compactness of the completely retracted legs make it easy to travel with. The only inconvenience is the time it take to unscrew each section of each leg when going from one location to another.

Great travel tripod!

This tripod has worked quite well as a travel backup to my full size carbon fiber tripod. It's so light yet able to hold my SLR and large lenses with no problem. It takes some time to get used to the twist releases to extend the legs, I prefer levers, but they help keep the tripod compact. The ball head is also high quality and I am able to fine tune things for long exposures. If you are looking for nice compact tripod, this does the trick. It's worth the extra for the carbon fiber too.

Kind of cheap relative to retail

I bought this substantially discounted here. I've not taken it out to use it yet but am not thrilled. 1. The head is not anodized, its painted, and it came with chips in the paint near the degree indicator. 2. The center pole for the head doesn't stay vertical and wiggles even when tightened down. This is probably due to the reversing design so the head can be stowed in-between the legs. If I had paid full price, I'd be very dissatisfied. B&H was good about it, I received credit for the paint issue but I'm still thinking about sending it back and getting something else. I feel like it is cheaply made and is going to give me problems. Maybe I'm expecting too much.

Well designed travel tripod and ball head

The tripod and ball head are both well designed and well engineered with many nice features that make this model stand out. Because it folds so compactly it takes a while to assemble the tripod, especially if you swap the center column for the smaller one. The ball head will support a full frame dslr with 70-200mm lens, but the ball gives with slight hand pressure. Overall, it does a good job for limited uses.

Asked by: MARIA
Yes, the BH-50 ballhead can be replaced with another ball head. The top of the center column features a 3/8" male thread, so most tripod "heads" with a 3/8" inner thread will fit . Yes, the center column is removable and the tripod is usable without it.

question

What is center column made from?
Asked by: David P.
I can't tell you that. But I used a nikon d600 with a 70-210 zoom and it held up well. I traveled all over India and to Djeerling near the Himalayas....no problem.
