RED DIGITAL CINEMA DSMC2 RED 7" Touch Monitor Overview

Designed for cable-free mounting to select DSMC2 RED cameras, the RED DIGITAL CINEMA Touch 7.0" LCD (Aluminum) features 1920 x 1136 resolution. The design of the LCD provides good off-axis viewing up to 170°, with 85° left, right, up, or down so you don't have to be directly aligned with the viewfinder to see an optimal image. The LCD features multi-touch control, with hard navigation buttons on the side.

With a brightness level of 350 cd/m² and contrast ration of 1000:1 providing a clear image, the RED Touch LCD mounts directly to your camera without any cables needed between the LCD and your camera. It can mount directly onto DSMC2 cameras including the WEAPON 8K S35, WEAPON 6K, EPIC/SCARLET-W, EPIC/SCARLET M-X, EPIC/SCARLET DRAGON, and the RED RAVEN. A built-in mirror and image flip allow for monitoring while upside down for special applications.

The LCD is designed to mount directly to select cameras for cable-free operation.
Used in conjunction with the optional DSMC2 LEMO Adapter Collection, you can mount your DSMC2 display away from the camera body.
The built-in hinge provides up to 180° of tilt—90° forward and 90° back—which allows the LCD to fold flat on your camera. The hinge also enables rotating the display 180°.
You can use an optional DSMC2 LEMO Adapter B to mount the LCD to RED EPIC or RED SCARLET cameras.

Build quality is top notch. Screen can get super bright and makes outdoor viewing a feasible option. Turning down the brightness on the side of the panel is nice when you’re indoors. The second lowest brightness setting is around the same NITs as the standard 7” version. My one complaint is that it’s very saturated. I had to make a custom LUT to bring down the saturation bc it was distracting. Color accuracy is more reliable now. Black levels can be greyish when at max brightness. I would love to see RED make an OLED touch monitor at around 1000 NITS.

I had this monitor start to develop light bleeds on all sides after 6 months. Then it overheated and burnt out a year later. I sent it into be repaired and it was $1700. Within 3 months I have some dead spots on on the screen and more light bleeds. I keep it in a fitted hard case and it was always treated well, it is just unreliable and expensive. As far as the day to day use goes... I guess not having cables is nice sometimes but you can’t put the monitor where you want it as easily. You can’t see well outside at all - super dim, super glare. I’m just upset that I have the original cost + $1700 repair and I could have had the Cine 7 from SmallHD two times and still saved money.

First One Didnt Work, Replacement is good

I purchased this monitor about a year ago. The first one they sent me would randomly act as if it was being touched and go into different menus. I had heard this was a somewhat common problem. I sent it back and RED sent me a new one. The replacement has worked great. I love the size and ability to use a touch screen. But yes, it is overpriced.

Broke within 2 months

RED is a great company. Some of the best customer service in the game. (make sure you find your local RED rep through Red.com) My monitor snapped off the hinge within 2 months of owning it. It was not dropped or mishandled. It just broke off while on set. Completely unacceptable for how much this monitor costs. It has a 1 year warranty that BH nor RED will adequately honor.

Poor Design; Damages Easily

The swivel/hinge begins loosening over time and the screen eventually stops working. This a problem that myself and many other RED owners have experienced. Disappointing given the high price point.
